I am having weird looking strings like this:
http://localhost:10012/user.aspx#.UPpCfl54stU
appended to the back of my URL and it only happens when I click on Link A when I am in any other pages other then the page of Link A, if I am on the Link A page and click on Link A(Reload) it doesn't happen. Anyone knows what is this and how to get rid of it?
Thanks.
This string is coming 99% from a Facebook plugin that you use on your site.
Facebook adds that string at the end, reads it from the javascript and do what he do, maybe keeps statistics, maybe something else.

HI so i keep running across websites which when looked through or searched (using their own search function) return's a static URL ie.) ?id=16 or default.aspx no mater what page of the website you visit after the search has been performed. This becomes a problem when i want to go directly to a post/page within one of these sites so i'm wondering. If anyone knows How could i actually find out what the absolute URL is.
So that i can navigate straight to it. I'm not really familiar with coding but have tried looking in the page source but i wasn't really able to gleam anything from there.
The basics around asp.net urls: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/142013/There-is-something-about-Paths-for-Asp-net-beginne
It all really depends on what you're trying to find, as far as finding a backway to locate a absolute path, is highly doubtful. If the owner of the site(most blogs) want you to have a perma link to a page, they use url-rewriting for putting things in the URI like title page and such. Alot of MVC sites do this now.
The '?id=16' you're seeing is just a query string, a holder for other logic they are doing.
I have a web site with number of pages, developing in asp.net.
I have a page URL's like:
example:
1) http://www.xyz.com/Home.aspx
2) http://www.xyz.com/Index.aspx
3) http://www.xyz.com/viewMember?Name=abc&id=1
But the end user is at any page, i would like to show the URL like "http://www.xyz.ie".
Is there any setting in web.config ? If not, is there any other way ?
Please help me...
Thanks in advance.

You can not keep one single URL for different page - but you can do some tricks to simulate it.
To make the url stay the same, but the content change, you need to make some trick.
I am not recommend, search engines they will not follow what you do and they show each page different, user can not make bookmark, and average user can easy find the real url of the page, even with one different click on the browser can find it.
One trick is to use frames, or iframes. On the main page you load all the rest inside an iframe, or inside a frame.
Second trick is to use ajax to load each other content.
And finally you can use session to know what to show on the user, user did not change links, but make post back that change the content.
First off, I saw similar posts already, but they weren't exactly what I am asking.
I used the Facebook Dev to create a like button for my website, stuck the code in and the the button showed up. The only issue is that it likes the wrong url when I click the button.
I'm pretty sure the issue is that I have it set to redirect automatically from mydomain.com to the most recent post. I think this is gumming up the works with the like button and causing it to like mydomain.com/mostrecentpost instead of simply liking mydomain.com.
Is there a way to correct this issue without having to get rid of the redirect (because that isn't an option)?
Sorry if that was a little wordy, wanted to make sure I explained the issue fully.

Either don’t redirect in those cases where the user agent header of the request points to it being Facebook’s scraper;
or set the canonical URL of http://example.com/mostrecentpost to just http://example.com/ using the appropriate Open Graph meta tag. (Although that would mean you would not be able to like a single post any more, because all of your posts would just point to your base domain as the “real” website; so the first is probably the better option.)
I wonder if there is a way to make the Facebook crawler ignore the canonical link on a page.
I have a situation where the canonical link points to a different URL than the one that you are actually on.
This results in that the og:image, og:url etc. that is dynamically added to the page is ignored and the information on the facebook page is completely wrong.
I have searched for an answers to this but come up short...
If I have understood your comments correctly, you may be going about this the wrong way. If you want your like button to like a url different to the page you are on, just change the href of the like button. Make sure the page at that href has the correct og tags and you shouldn't have a problem.
If this isn't what you mean, can you try to explain what you are trying to achieve, rather than what you think the problem is, as you might just be approaching it from the wrong angle.
I notice on some sites i can login wrong which brings me to a login page. log in incorrectly again which brings me to a wrong password page (where i can log in) and if i login wrong again i dont increase my page history count. It takes exactly 2 backs no matter how many times i get it wrong and i dont see any pages in my forward history
How do i do that? ASP.NET
Take a look at this:
Server.Transfer Vs. Response.Redirect
Basically, if you want to do it without the user (browser) knowing about it, you use Server.Transfer; otherwise you do a Response.Redirect.
Also note, although not in server side code, there is a possibility the site uses Javascript like location.replace() - this way the history does not change.
You dont. As long as the login url stays the same there wont be another page added to the history. There may be parameters after the ? that changes the url or possibly POST data.
