Since yesterday, I've tried numerous times to upgrade/install plugins on a website built with wordpress (not mine, first time I'm on it).
I get the following message while installing a new plugin:
Downloading install package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/[plugin-name].zip…
Unpacking the package…
And it stops there.
I tried updating akismet too. It didn't upgrade and the webite hanged into maintenance mode. The website is up again now and I get this message on my dashboard:
An automated WordPress update has failed to complete - please attempt the update again now.
Any suggestions?
Here are a few possibilities
Incorrect permissions.
Prombelmatic plugin.
Configuration in .htaccess not allowing files large enough to perform the action.
try adding AddType x-mapp-php5 .php to the top of your .htaccess file.
Try deleting the .maintenance file.

My problem: I am able to build a nice website locally using Jekyll and the Skinny Bones theme, but when I upload my contents to GitHub the build fails.
System information: Running macOS 12.5, Jekyll 4.2.2, most up-to-date version of gems (managed by Bundler). Clean install of everything this morning.
What I've done:
Downloaded all relevant software and built out a GitHub Pages repo
per these instructions and the GitHub Pages instructions.
Cloned the project (let's call it project.github.io), unzipped the Skinny Bones theme inside that directory, got everything set up.
The directory now looks like:
Gemfile
Gemfile.lock
README.md
jekyll
_site
_pages
_layouts
a whole lot more
I build everything how I wanted it, navigated to the jekyll folder, and built it using bundle exec jekyll build and checked it interactively using bundle exec jekyll serve. Everything worked well, no errors, functioned as expected.
I then navigated to the project.github.io directory, added everything and pushed it successfully, then got the settings configured for GitHub pages (e.g., set it to the right branch, etc.).
This is where the problem occurs. I notice that the build failed, examined the error log, and see this in the output, two lines:
Conversion error: Jekyll::Converters::Scss encountered an error while converting 'jekyll/css/main.scss': File to import not found or unreadable: variables. Load path: /usr/local/bundle/gems/jekyll-theme-primer-0.6.0/_sass on line 10
/usr/local/bundle/gems/jekyll-sass-converter-1.5.2/lib/jekyll/converters/scss.rb:123:in "rescue in convert": File to import not found or unreadable: variables. (Jekyll::Converters::Scss::SyntaxError)
The build has therefore failed, and my pages are not rendering. Furthermore, these are supported dependencies, per the GitHub documentation. I have verified that I have the same version of theme-primer installed.
Can anyone help me diagnose this problem?
I have solved this issue. The problem is that even though I was pushing all material from the parent, I was building locally from a /blog subdirectory inside my project.github.io parent directory. This was cloned directly from GitHub. When I tried to build locally from the parent, I got the same error as I was getting on GitHub, which tipped me off to what might be going on.
When I moved everything up to the parent directory level and rebuilt from parent, everything worked as expected and just as it did from initially building inside /blog. I pushed to GitHub, the build process completed, and the GitHub page was served.
Hopefully this will be helpful for someone else who might have this issue. Jekyll is adamant about directory hierarchy.
I tried to install Simple OAuth (https://www.drupal.org/project/simple_oauth) module in my drupal site running in a shared Godaddy hosting. My first mistake was not to read the installation guide instructing to install the module by using composer. Instead, I installed the module using the Extend=>install a module link within Drupal. Installing the simple_oauth and enabling the module crashed my site and there is no output from the site.
Then I realised there is something wrong with the installation and checked the error log file. The error logged was:
PHP Fatal error: Interface 'League\OAuth2\Server\Repositories\AccessTokenRepositoryInterface' not found in /home/-----------/public_html/drupal/modules/simple_oauth/src/Repositories/AccessTokenRepository.php on line 10
At that point I realised there is something wrong with the installation and checked the module instructions which states I should use composer to install the module. I tried to solve this problem by redoing the installation from the ssh by using composer and this command:
composer config repositories.drupal composer https://packages.drupal.org/8 && composer require drupal/simple_oauth:^3
Which did not work because GoDaddy shared hosting plan has only 512mb of rams and composer kills the command because of lack of memory.
I tried reading through and understand how Composer works. There were recommendations saying you should never use composer in a production site and you should run it on your computer and copy the composer.lock file which needs much less rams. I created a PHP server using XAMMP on my computer and copied the composer.json file to my computer and run composer update command in my computer. It downloaded the dependencies and stuff on my computer. And feeling I get the hang of it, I copied the composer.lock file in my drupal server, run composer update command and saw composer delete many stuff which I could not undo.
So my questions are: 1- Is there a way of rescuing this drupal site at this point? I deleted many composer dependencies as far as I can understand.
The new error log says: PHP Fatal error: Interface 'Symfony\Component\HttpKernel\HttpKernelInterface' not found in /home/--------/public_html/drupal/core/lib/Drupal/Core/DrupalKernelInterface.php on line 15
2- If not, which is fine as I was just beginning to setup the site. Is it possible for someone to explain the best way of handling this scenario? I mean installing a module using composer in a memory critical place. Or explain how composer works for layman. I read about all the dependency stuff but could not figure out how to use it for this scenario.
Thanks.
I just finished installing Wordpress (through Bitnami) and am running an Apache server with XAMPP. After installation, it tried to load the initial blog page and had the error. I can access localhost, but not the http://localhost/wordpress. No other questions about this topic seem to have this same problem.
Try this:
Create a new folder (site)
From the link below, download and extract the WordPress loader (installer) php script into the new folder:

Run http://localhost/<new_folder>/wordpress_loader.php and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation
I have a problem with Opencart installation.
I configured it with NGINX and after I finished the tutorial installation, I was unable to open it on my localhost. When I tried to open it, I downloaded the index.php file automatically.
I hope anyone have a solution for this.
Thanks.
It's not about Opencart installation, it's about executing php file on nginx, you should install php5-fpm and have correct configurations. More info at http://apmblog.compuware.com/2014/10/30/proper-configuration-running-php-nginx/
I have wordpress site on my server which only uses sftp.
I want to install and upgrade plugins, but it appears that you are required to enter your ftp login to install the plugins. Is there a way to install and upgrade plugins by manually uploading the files instead of having wordpress handle the entire process?
Add
define('FS_METHOD', 'direct');
to your wp-config.php
And it will be fine
You can install a plugin by simply uploading to the plugins directory and unpacking it. '/wp-content/plugins'. Note that you will still have to enable the plugin normally in Wordpress admin.
