How does mix-blend-mode works when there are different layers - css

I'm trying to figure out how mix-blend-mode works when it is applied in the upper layer but more than one layer is present on bottom. More specific in my case I just want to have cursor (layer 1 from top) that use mix-blend-mode over a text (layer 2) without be effected by the background present in the next bottom layer.
Is it possible to have blending only on the last two layer considering that text has a fixed color, but its background is transparent?

a-frame animation - coloring text (or other primitives) from side to side

Currently, as I see it, with the simple animation tag, the whole text change the color.
I want to break it so at the beginning the left (or right) letter will be colored, then the second, and so on.
Alternatively, I want to color a primitive, such as a cube, from side to side.

Change CSS property (like background colour) for overlapping DIVs

I have a calendar-style app that displays events as colour-coded DIVs of varying lengths absolutely positioned on a timeline. These events must not overlap. I want to be able to highlight overlaps via CSS. For example, non-overlapping events normally display with a green background, but if one gets scheduled to overlap the other (completely or partially) I want both to change to, say, orange.
Is there a CSS way to do this or must I examine the events themselves for conflicts? (I know how to do the latter, but it just seems that there should be a CSS solution.)

How to make grids covered by figures?

I am new to RRDtool. I generated a graph with grid(--grid-dash 1:0), a LINE(LINE1:rt#4e9a06) and I also have the area between the line and the x-axis coloured (AREA:rt#4e9a06 ). I notice the grid still shows up in the colored-area. I am wondering if there is any way to cover the grid with the colored-area.
Also, I am also wondering if there is any good-looking rrdtool samples/examples available online? Thanks.
I have no way of testing this currently, but here's what the documentation says (emphasis mine) :

Override the default colors for the standard elements of the graph.
The COLORTAG is one of BACK background, CANVAS for the background of
the actual graph, SHADEA for the left and top border, SHADEB for the
right and bottom border, GRID, MGRID for the major grid, FONT for the
color of the font, AXIS for the axis of the graph, FRAME for the line
around the color spots, and finally ARROW for the arrow head pointing
up and forward. Each color is composed out of three hexadecimal
numbers specifying its rgb color component (00 is off, FF is maximum)
of red, green and blue. Optionally you may add another hexadecimal
number specifying the transparency (FF is solid). You may set this
option several times to alter multiple defaults.
What about making an almost transparent grid with arguments like these (note the extra 7F parameter which translates to 127 in decimal):
-c MGRID#<hex triplet>7F -c GRID#<hex triplet>7F
It should still be visible in the background but be invisible (or barely noticeable) once any graph covers it.
Note that this answer from the developer of RRDTool says that the grid is always painted after the graph, so in the end you'll always have it in the foreground, your only solution is to either totally disable it or tinker with color/transparency parameters to make it invisible when covered by the graphed data.

Highlight image regions on hover with CSS

What is the HTML CSS solution for highlighting specific areas of a map/floor plan like this?

They use sprite image look here.
Basically, it works like that:
The map with dark-blue regions is completely static.
There is invisible layer on top of it made from small rectangular in their case <a> -- each corresponds to single dark-blue region and posses its its own id.
When cursor is placed over a rectangular with id x the sprite image is nicely aligned with its background (by setting CSS's background-position).
Do not think, this magic would be possible without using JavaScript.

Is there an inverse to the CSS "Clip" property; hide the clipped area?

The CSS clip syntax gets you to define a rectangular area of a larger image that you wish to be visible. Is there a way to specify the inverse? Specify the rectangular area of the image that you wish to become invisible. Like punching a rectangular hole through the page to see what's underneath?
Reason (if you have any other ideas): I want to create a 3 layer image in a CMS template. Layer 1 (at the bottom) is a background image. Layer 2 sits over a portion of layer 1 and is a rectangular screengrab image of an A4 document. Layer 3 (on the top) is a transparent PNG (in its centre and at its edges) that adds a border, drop shadow, doc type logo and a page curl effect to the top right of the layer 2 document.
Layers 1 and 2 will be uploaded separately in the CMS and the CSS should combine them together with the layer 3 image to create the effect. The problem is for the page curl effect to work, the top right corner of layer 2 needs to be masked so that you can see all the way through from layer 3 to layer 1. I was hoping that the clip property would allow me to specify a small square in the top right corner of layer 2 that should be invisible.
Alternative: Is to use a graphics program to combine layers 1 and 3 together and leave a transparent area for layer 2. Then with the correct positioning you could place the new combined image on top of layer 2 to achieve the same effect. However, I was hoping to avoid graphics preparation like this because you may as well create the entire image that way.
Simple Answer:
CSS clip will not work for that.
I see two options:
Try to fake the 'hole' by drawing Layer3 with Layer1 as a background image. This will make the transparent areas of Layer3 be filled with Layer1. You can see this solution in action here: http://cssfilter.saschaseewald.com/
