Visual Studio 2022 crashing while opening a Windows Form form with many controls in design mode - windows-forms-designer

I have MS Visual Studio 2022 (64-bit) v.17.4.2 crashing while opening a form in design mode in Windows Forms project (.NET Framework 4.x).
This form has many UserControls. The Windows Forms project is a 64-bit one recently converted from 32-bit Visual Studio 2019 project. The application and this problematic form work well when running from within Visual Studio 2022 (Ctrl+F5) or within standalone Windows Forms .NET Framework 4.x application.
The crashing issue should be somehow caused by one of the UserControls but while crashing Visual Studio 2022 doesn't produce any logs - it just crashes silently.
How can I capture/log any info on such an issue to modify my UserControls design/code behind?
I must note I have another Visual Studio 2022 Windows Forms .NET Framework 64-bit project with a (much) more complicated main form and related UserControls design and this form gets opened in design mode without any issues.

hi not sure about VS 2022 but for vs 2019 you have to set the target cpu to x86, edit the form then set it back to x64 to run, not ideal but seems to work

Visual Studio 2019 no designer support on Windows Forms on .Net 5.0

It seems like I've lost designer support for Windows Forms on .NET 5.0. Everything was working ok last week, but now, as you can see, there's no designer support:
This is not a new .NET 5.0 Windows Forms projet, it's been migrated from .NET 4.8. I'm using Visual Studio 19 16.8.4.
Any ideas on what's going on?
This worked for me.

To enable the designer, go to Tools > Options > Environment > Preview Features and select the Use the preview Windows Forms designer for .NET Core apps option.

Migrate VS2010 to VS2013 - what would be the major changes we would be facing?

I have one web application in C# which is developed using Visual Studio 2010 and I want to convert or Migrate that web application in Visual Studio 2013 (C#).
Note:- Below listed things I used in my current Web Application using VS2010 (C#)
Asp.Net Server Controls.
ClassLibrary (.dll).
Web services.
Above Listed things I used in my current Web application which is in VS2010.
Now, My Question Is- What would be the major changes I would be facing if I am using all above listed Microsoft Technologies using C# and Migrate it to VS2013.
The biggest change for us was that Visual Studio Setup Project was depreciated in VS 2012, so we had to build new installers.

Also, which version of .NET is you application? Keep in mind framework targeting for Visual Studios (basically if your application is .NET 3.5 SP 1 or newer you should be fine):
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/dn250998.aspx
The Web Services should also be okay, if you intend to keep creating web services instead of switching to WCF, you may want to look at this:
Create a asmx web service in C# using visual studio 2013
The thing we first noticed is VS2013 uses IIS Express 8.0, at the time our production web server was IIS 6 - we encountered, on numerous occasions a web.config setting working fine locally but forgot to add the IIS 6 equivalent.
For our web apps we kept targeting the same .Net framework and I can't recall any issues. For your reference our stack was Asp.Net MVC 4, EF 5 WebApi plus numerous NuGet packages. So we didn't have any asp.net server controls.
You may also want to ensure all your VS2010 plugins have a 2013 equivalent.
You shouldn't have any problem at all with the types of proyects you are using.
You could even open the solution with VS2013 and then open it back with VS2010 SP1 without any problem (as long as you don't switch the .NET framework to 4.5).
Starting from VS2012, Microsoft made changes to allow developers open a solution with older versions of VS (VS2010 SP1 being the oldest version that supports this). There ARE some proyect types that won't be compatible, but from the things you listed, you won't have any problems.
When you open the Solution with newest VS, it WILL make some changes, but you still will be able to open it with VS2010 SP1 (again, with some exceptions).

Anyway, my suggestion is, install VS2013 in a test machine and try it out. You can even create an Azure VM with VS2013 PreInstalled in minutes to try it out.
There is already available VS2015 preview, why not wait until it is released? (or use the preview)

as other said, it should not brake much

Is it possible to force Visual Studio 2010 to use Visual Basic 10?

To reproduce the error I'm getting:
Create a new Visual Studio 2010 ASP.NET web site in Visual Basic, targeting .NET 2.0
Type "Public Property Test As String"
Observe "Visual Basic 9.0 does not support auto-implemented properties." error
Visual Studio 2010 is happy to use VB 10 against .NET 2.0-targeted Windows Forms applications, this only appears to be an issue with ASP.NET.
Is there a way to force Visual Studio 2010 to use VB 10 when targeting .NET 2.0?
No. A Web Site project is one that compiles within ASP.NET at runtime - as such, you've chosen to ask ASP.NET to run it as a .NET 2.0 project, so it will use the .NET 2.0 vbc Visual Basic compiler that's part of .NET. That compiler has no knowledge of VB 10, and so you're rightly being warned that it will not work.
The reason it can work for other project types is because the compilation is happening using a later compiler (usually the one built into Visual Studio).

Unable to run Visual Studio 2003 IDE on Windows 7

My machine has windows 7 and when I try to create a project from VS2003 IDE that is Dotnet v1.1 I'm getting the following error message:
Visual Studio has detected that the specified web server is not running asp.net v1.1. you will be unable to run asp.net web application or services
I have searched Google and found some links for the same problem but I am still not able to create asp.net project v1.1 from VS2003 IDE.
Have you tried the following article:
How to install ASP.NET 1.1 with IIS7 on Vista and Windows 2008
It says Windows Vista / Server 2008, however I am fairly certain that the same applied for Windows 7.
If you are having trouble understanding a specific part of the article then can you tell us which bit?
Visual Studio 2003's lifecycle ended in 2007,
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/default.aspx?sort=PN&alpha=Visual+Studio&Filter=FilterNO
At that time, Windows 7 was not yet released, and such products should not be ever tested on Windows 7 internally.
So my guess is that you should continue using it on an older Windows platform (XP or Windows Server 2003).

asp.net mvc 1.0 "project type is not supported" on Visual Studio 2008

I've installed (in this order):
64bit Windows7,
64bit Visual Studio 2008,
Microsoft Free Web Platform Installer (WEB PI)
- installed iis7
- bunch of samples
- ...
asp.net mvc 1.0
Visual Studio 2008 sp1
When opening an existing solution with mvc web application in it, i get this error:
"The project type is not supported by this installation" on Visual Studio 2008
I've noticed that almost all project templates are stored under "Program Files (x86)" not under "Program Files"...
I've also repaired vs2008, asp.net mvc 1.0 and nothing worked...
Just some things to try:
Have you updated Visual Studio 2008 to SP1 (google for download - its a bigge)?
Have you removed all previous traces of ASP.Net MVC Beta and RC installs?
Does the project contain MSTest tests and the version you are using does not support MSTest?
How did you install IIS7 (or rather 7.5 on Windows 7)? Did you do this via Add Remove Windows Features, did you enable ASP.Net when you drill into Internet Information Server ?
Can you create a new ASP.Net MVC application does this show in Add New Projects? And copy the Web.config over to the existing one? It may be possible it was created with a previous version and the assembly identies are no longer than same.
When you install Visual Studio 2008 did you untick the Web application bit in the Customize/Advance by any chance (cant recall exact wording) but IIRC it appears as sibling on the branch where Visual C# option is.
