is ABLUnit.pl library installed by default on Openedge 11.5? - openedge

we're setting up a new windows machine and {DLC11.5}/gui/ablunit.pl
is not found/installed.
It is on an older installation.
Is there some special setup/install option required to create it?
Is it perhaps part of developer studio?

ABL Unit functionaltiy is only provided as part of PDSOE - see https://knowledgebase.progress.com/articles/Article/000054642 - this includes what you can do to get it anyway.

Do WinUI applications need runFullTrust to publish to the Windows Store?

I recently took a stock WinUI template, added my old UWP C# code, recompiled and tried to publish. The Windows Store Application Submission warns me that I shouldn't use the runFullTrust setting:
We detected the use of one or more restricted capabilities in your Package.appxmanifest file. You must request approval to use restricted capabilities by providing more information below. Please include as much detail as possible. Learn more
If you don't need to declare these capabilities or added them in error, you can remove them from your Package.appxmanifest file and then upload the updated package(s).
but here's what I got from the template:
<Capabilities>
<rescap:Capability Name="runFullTrust" />
</Capabilities>
I tried removing it, but it wouldn't even compile. Can anyone tell us the backstory of this flag, why it's needed in WinUI but not UWP, and how we get around the Windows Store Submission error.
Do WinUI applications need runFullTrust to publish to the Windows Store?
Yes.
A WinUI 3 app uses the full-trust desktop app model. A UWP app runs in a sandbox.
As stated in the docs, distributing your packaged desktop (WinUI 3) app requires you to answer "a few extra questions as part of the submission process. That's because your package manifest declares a restricted capability named runFullTrust, and we need to approve your application's use of that capability."
So you should provide information about why you need to use the runFullTrust restricted capability when you publish the app. You could for example explain that it's a desktop app and what it does.
WinUI 3 does not need to be full trust, but you still need to declare any UWP-like capacities you are using.
Here is a tutorial that shows how to do it.

How to define firebase-remote-config parameters based on app version

I need to distribute some settings based on the app version e.g. if app version equals "4.0.1" then a else b. I found the possibility to define a condition named "version" but the documentation says it is bound to the package name of the app and not the version or version code.
see here https://firebase.google.com/docs/remote-config/parameters
I tried it though specifying the app version through a "version" condition but it does not work. Any ideas on this would be much appreciated.
The main problem is that Remote config's "Version" is the build number and not the actual version number.
The way I found around this is you can add a "User Property" in Firebase like "app_version". Then when the app launches add the following code:
let version = Bundle.main.object(forInfoDictionaryKey: "CFBundleShortVersionString") as! String
Analytics.setUserProperty(version, forName: "app_version")
You can then use this User Property in Remote Config as a condition and voila you can base some Remote Config value of of the version number. Note this will require the use of Firebase Analytics as well.
Creating a condition, which targets an app version via regular expression appears to be the only solution in this case.
For my app I use the following configuration:
Here, users who have versions 1.8.* and below receive an alternate version of a backend configuration parameter.
If you need to target only a specific version of the app, then a regular expression is not really necessary, so the approach that you took should work.
Alternatively, you can have far more control if you create a user audience based on app version, and then target the audience.

String substitution in Visual Studio Team Services

I am setting up a build in Visual Studio Team Services (formerly Visual Studio Online) for my NopCommerce application. The database connection string is defined in a file called Settings.txt and I would like the value to be updated by my build using a build variable.
I have tried using the $(varName) placeholder as suggested here , but it didn't do anything. Any suggestions? Thanks.
You can't use the variable placeholder directly in the file and there's currently no task available OOTB which does replace values inside of files. You'll need to pass it to a Script (PowerShell, Batch, etc) which replaces the value in the file.
You can use the tokenizer task to achieve this. I don't think that it is available in VSTS by default but you can upload it. You can find the instructions to upload and use in Readme.MD

ASP.NET using AtalaSoft to convert Tiff compression

Using Atalasoft's free SDK,
http://www.atalasoft.com/free-dotnet-image-sdk
I added reference to the DotImage and DotImage.Lib dlls' to Visual Studio 2010.
My code:-
Atalasoft.Imaging.AtalaImage image = new Atalasoft.Imaging.AtalaImage(fileName);
Atalasoft.Imaging.Codec.TiffEncoder encoder = new Atalasoft.Imaging.Codec.TiffEncoder();
encoder.Compression = Atalasoft.Imaging.Codec.TiffCompression.Group4FaxEncoding;
image.Save(fileName, encoder, null); // destroys the original.
However when I run the code I get an error on the very first line:-
Unable to retrieve security descriptor for this frame.
Can anyone help me out with this?
Update:-
I added a further line of code:-
System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission f2 = new System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission(System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermissionAccess.AllAccess, fileName);
Still the same error.
Philo,
Hi, I'm the support engineer you called in to yesterday. I apologize - after you called in, I received a note from our chief software architect asking us to help you out.
If you are still experiencing your issue, please do call back in and/or create a support case on our portal at https://www.atalasoft.com/support/my-portal/cases
A couple of tings that come to mind from your case: make sure you're targeting either x86 or x64 in your project's platform target (DotImage "has bitness") and make sure you're using the appropriate x86 or x64 Atalasoft references. (I strongly suggest our x86 while getting started as x64 has some additional hoops to jump through to get the licensing working.
Atalasoft does ship some AnyCPU dlls but they're for an extremely limited subset of use cases and if you have referenced those and/or are attempting to target your project to AnyCPU, this will cause all sorts of odd behavior.
Also, if you're targeting our .NET framework 4.0, make sure you're targeting the full framework and not "Client Profile" as DotImage has dependencies on components not present in the Client Profile version.

Did you have the the file with .lic extension in project section on the right side? Make sure about that.

Get Published XBAP version in C#

I have an XBAP currently published on my local machine, which has an 'About' canvas build into the XMAL, of which I want to show the published version number, but I can only seem to get the assembly version number. Any suggestions?
First make sure you add the following assembly to your project references: System.Deployment. Then you can access the current version like this:
using System.Deployment.Application;
...
if (ApplicationDeployment.IsNetworkDeployed)
VersionTextBlock.Text =
ApplicationDeployment.CurrentDeployment.CurrentVersion.ToString();
CurrentDeployment is null when you debug locally, so you can use IsNetworkDeployed to only retrieve the version info when you run from the published location.
With .NET 3.0 I'm using
Version ver = System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName().Version;
I've seen somewhere saying to use:
System.Deployment.ApplicationDeployment.CurrentVersion
But when using System.Deployment there appears to be no System.Deployment.ApplicationDeployment available to be accessed!
This may not be a solution but may point in the right sort of direction. If someone uses this already maybe they can shed some more light on the matter.
