Deploying ASP.Net Project to Ubuntu server using Mono

I have developed an ASP.net 4.5 Project using Visual Studio 2013 and I am assigned to deploy it on our Ubuntu server.
Like what other tutorials said I need to use Mono to make this possible. I think I followed those steps but when I try to open the page, it gives me this error.
I had this exception when deploying my application, but to a Windows Server. The problem was that some dlls references pointed to my local assemblies. (example: System.Web.Http.WebHost was referenced to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft ASP.NET\ASP.NET MVC 4\Assemblies\System.Web.Http.WebHost.dll, so in the server this LoadException ocurred because this dll was missing.)
So the generic answer is: There is some dll missing. Compare the references in your project with the bin folder in the server. If there's some reference that points to local machine, change the property CopyLocal to true, so when you compile and publish the dll will be copied to the output directory.
I don't use Mono, but how this same problem ocurred to me in a Windows Server, may be the same problem with you in a Linux Machine.
If the probem persists, try to create a simple project, with just one page and a few dependencies just to see if the asp.net works fine in this server.

Compiling ASP.NET project versus NET4.0 with NET4.5 installed

I have an ASP.NET project that was working correctly compiled with Visual Studio 2010 and NET4.0.
Then I have installed VS Express 2012 and NET4.5 and I always get an Exception trying to open a SqlConnection.
Can I have some chance to recompile my project targeting NET4.0 (so without disinstalling 4.5) and have it working?
In VS Express 2012 I have this web.config:
<system.web>
<compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0"/>
The referenced assemblies correctly target the v4.0, for example:
Assembly System.Data
C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\.NETFramework\v4.0\System.Data.dll
EDIT 2
As this blog http://blogs.msdn.com/b/msbuild/archive/2007/04/12/new-reference-assemblies-location.aspx and also this answer https://stackoverflow.com/a/8543850/1012244 explains very well, there is a BIG difference betweeen Referenced Assemblies (folder contains those assemblies that ship with the x.xx Framework which are useful for referencing during the design and build of new components) and Runtime scenario (At runtime, these components will still be loaded from the GAC in most cases).
However, when I run the project I always get the Exception, as if the project actually was using NET4.5... Why?
PS. If I deploy this project on a production server machine with only NET4.0 installed, the connection is fine.
(This is clear now: Installing Net4.5 essentially replaces Net4.0)
UPDATED QUESTION -
Can I have some chance to recompile my project targeting an OLD NET4.0 .dll (System.Data.dll in my case) instead of the new Net4.5 dll?
EDIT - Additional info
At this MSDN link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff602939.aspx I found:
If you determine that a change in the .NET Framework 4.5 has broken your application, check the Runtime Settings Schema to determine whether you can use a runtime setting in your application configuration file to restore the previous behavior.
Could this help me? And how?

ASP.NET Webforms Project created with VS2012 RC does not run in VS2012 RTM

I used the RC version of Visual Studio 2012 to create an ASP.NET Webforms project and I intentionally took the 4.0 version of .Net and of the project template to avoid complications after the release of VS2012.
Now I anyway bumped into the problem, that is revealed in the following error message:
'jquery' is not a valid script name. The name must end in '.js'.
As I noticed in the references, following assembly references are broken:
Microsoft.ScriptManager.jQuery
Microsoft.ScriptManager.jQuery.UI.Component
System.Web.Providers
I tried to re-install jQuery using NuGet but did not find these assemblies.
If I now create a new .Net 4.0 ASP.NET Webforms project in Visual Studio 2012 I get a lot of new references which are not present in my current (originally created in the RC-version, now opened in VS2012 RTM), like:
AspNet.ScriptManager.jQuery
AspNet.ScriptManager.jQuery.UI.Combined
but I can't find them among reference sources if I try to add a new reference to my original project.
How can I make my application runnable in VS2012?
Check packages
AspNet.ScriptManager.jQuery.1.7.1
AspNet.ScriptManager.jQuery.UI.Combined.1.8.20
make sure the following dlls are in the lib folder
AspNet.ScriptManager.jQuery.dll
AspNet.ScriptManager.jQuery.UI.Combined.dll
And check the reference in your project to make sure all references are resolved.
Sometimes, the dlls didn't added to the source control and when you do a get latest from the source control these two dlls are missing.

Could not load file or assembly System

We have a customer that is using Server 2008 x86 II7 with asp.net 3.5SP1. When our asp.net application is installed we are getting the following error:
Could not load file or assembly 'System, Version=2.0.50727'
Has anyone ran into this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check your applications web.config - are you binding to that version for some reason by any chance?
Its possible it is referencing the wrong version. The assembly version is 2.0.0.0 but the file version is 2.0.50727. Once you open up the gac, right click on the System library for 2.0.0.0 and look at the file version there. What are the results? If its missing, Install asp.net 2 (asp.net 3.5 were files included on top of v2 assemblies - for asp.net it did not replace them)

Error: This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime

I have downloaded published (code behind files are no there, combined with dll in bin folder) web application from Window Server 2008 where it is hosted, and open it with Visual Studio when I debug that application it shows following error:
"Could not load assembly because this assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime"
I don't know how can I solve this problem and test application locally.
Please help me.
This errors happens when the DotNet framework you are using is of older version than the one used to build the assembly. You need to check which version of framework is used to build those assemblies and then use the same or higher to debug too.
I was getting this same error when running an installer for a Windows service, even when running the installer on the PC the installer was built on.
It turned out that although the Windows service project had been updated to .NET 4.5, the Setup project that was making the installer was still set to use .NET 2.0.
To check if the Setup project is using an older version of .NET than the project to be installed, in the Visual Studio Solution Explorer:
Expand the Setup project;
Under the Setup project, expand Detected Dependencies;
Under Detected Dependencies select Microsoft .NET Framework and check the Version property. Select the appropriate .NET version from the dropdown list;
Re-build the Setup project to create a new version of the installer.
This error can have a lot of other reasons, too. I had the same problem, and nothing helped until I stumbled across this:
TlbExp.exe error:This assembly is built by a runtime newer
I just ran into this issue when the assembly was built with a target framework of .NET 4, and v4.0.30319 was installed on the server, and other 4.0 apps were running successfully.
The problem arose because the app had originally been built targeting 2.0, and new 4.0 assemblies were pushed, but not the app.config file, which we generally update separately.
This means the supportedRuntime attribute was not updated in the config and caused the error. Adding the following to the app.config fixed our issue:
<startup><supportedRuntime version="v4.0" sku=".NETFramework,Version=v4.0"/></startup>
One the the assemblies reference in the project might be built using a newer version of .net, check version of every assembly reference and correct accordingly.
Also check the application pool that this web site is running as. It could be framework 2.0 default on some older windows servers. Change it to framework 4.0.
