I've installed the Hadoop file and I'm trying to run the MapReduce example in the terminal, but am getting the command not found message, can someone help me with this issue, thanks.
Ismails-MacBook-Pro:mapreduce korir$ hadoop jar hadoop-mapreduce-examples-2.7.3.jar
-bash: hadoop: command not found
The Hadoop command is only recognized from within your hadoop-2.7.3/bin folder. Unless you set the PATH environment variable to include that path.
Execute the command:
export PATH=$PATH:/Users/korir/hadoop-install-hadoop-2.7.3/bin
Consider adding this to a bashrc file to make it permanent.

I am working in Ubuntu 16.04. I need to install gradle and the gradle is installed when i checked with sudo apt list --installed command but when i use gradle -version command it shows the following error,
JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory: /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/jre/bin/java
In sudo vim /etc/environment file,
PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/games"
JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/"
http_proxy="http://username:password#IP:port no/"
https_proxy="https://IP:port no/"
ftp_proxy="ftp://IP:port no/"
I don't know where i made mistakes. Please help me.
Thanks.
On a 64bit openSuse 64 42.1 box;
readlink -f $(which java)
provided;
/usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0/jre/bin/java
But;
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib64/jvm/jre-1.8.0-openjdk
is the path that worked and allowed java emulator to run.
So i think we have to manually browse our file system and see what path to choose.
Today I faced this problem. I am using the default java that comes with your linux distro (so in my case, linux mint).
$ whereis java
This command gave me
java: /usr/bin/java /usr/share/java
So, I opened /user/bin. There was a link to Java. I right clicked it and selected follow original link. This lead me to /usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64/bin/java.
So now that I know where this java is, I opened my .bashrc file, and edited the JAVA_HOME.
So for my case,
## My Custom variables
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64
export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
This solved the problem.
Now if you are using some other java (say you downloaded from oracle and extracted the zip file ...), then you have to add that location. So for example, if your java is in /home/user/.sdkman/candidates/java/current, then
export JAVA_HOME=/home/user/.sdkman/candidates/java/current
export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
I see a mismatch. In your enviornment file the JAVA_HOME is set to "/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/" and your mentioned that the error that you got relates to the JAVA_HOME as "/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/jre/bin/java"
If you JAVA is really installed in /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle directory, then you need to ensure that the JAVA_HOME is set to that directory. And also your PATH reflects $JAVA_HOME/bin in it.
I typically install Oracle JDK/JRE separately in a separate directory such as /usr/local/jdk1.8.0 etc.
check the jvm installtion folder from Files
eg : /usr/lib/jvm/java-12-oracle
then in terminal run sudo nano /etc/environment and add the line
JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/jvm/java-12-oracle"
Then open terminal and run
export JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/jvm/java-12-oracle"
shell_exec("Rscript C:\R\R-3.2.2\bin\code.R ");
This is the call to script.On calling the above script, the error occurs.
I am trying to call my R script from the above path but no output is being shown. While checking the error logs of PHP, it says 'Rscript' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.' The script is working fine on the Rstudio but not running on the command line.
Add the Rscript path to your environment variables in Windows:
Go to Control Panel\System and Security\System and click Advanced System Settings, then environment variables, click on path in the lower box, edit, add "C:\R\R-3.2.2\bin"
Restart everything. Should be good to go. Then you should be able to do
exec('Rscript PATH/TO/my_code.R')
instead of typing the full path to Rscript. Won't need the path to your my_code.R script if your php file is in the same directory.
You need to set the proper path where your RScript.exe program is located.
exec ("\"C:\\R\\R-3.2.2\\bin\\Rscript.exe\"
C:\\My_work\\R_scripts\\my_code.R my_args";
#my_args only needed if you script take `args`as input to run
other way is you declare header in your r script (my_code.r)
#!/usr/bin/Rscript
and call it from command line
./my_code.r
If you are running it in Git Bash terminal, you could follow a revised version of the idea suggested by #user5249203: in the first line of your file my_code.R, type the following
#!/c/R/R-3.2.2/bin/Rscript.exe
I assumed that your path to Rscript.exe is the one listed above C:\R\R-3.2.2\bin. For anyone having a different path to Rscript.exe in Windows, just modify the path-to-Rscript accordingly. After this modification of your R code, you could run it in the Git Bash terminal using path-to-the-code/mycode.R. I have tested it on my pc.
I faced the same problem while using r the first time in VS Code, just after installing the language package (CRAN).
I restart the application and everything worked perfectly. I think restarting would work for you as well.
I'm working with R for a while, and I always worked with Rstudio, I tried just now to run a Rscript command in terminal (I have a mac..) and I got this error-
>Rscript script.R
-bash: Rscript: command not found
when I tried to open R in the terminal I go the same error-
>R
-bash: R: command not found
I can run R code with the Rstudio and the R application, but I know there is a way to run R throw the terminal.
Did I miss something when I installed R on my computer? do I need to add R to my PATH?
thanks in advance!
Steps to run R script through Windows command prompt
Set the PATH variable for Rscript.exein the environment variables. Rscript.exe can be found inside bin folder of R. Set the path for Rscript.exe to use Rscript command in Windows command prompt. To check if Rscript.exe has been set environmentally or not, type Rscript in command prompt. The follwoing message should come.
Go to Command Prompt, set the path where your .R file is there.
Run the following command: Here abcd.R is present under Documents folder. So I set path and then run Rscript abcd.R
For those who stumbled upon this but use a mac, you might find this useful. I recently downloaded and installed R and RStudio through the CRAN site. I didn't do it through homebrew. Since I downloaded this install directly from the site, it DID NOT add the RScript executable to my /usr/local/bin directory.
I have locate on my mac so I did a quick lookup:
locate RScript
And I found it here:
/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/4.0/Resources/bin/Rscript
What I had to do was create a symbolic link to my /usr/local/bin directory to get it to work:
cd /usr/local/bin
ln -s /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/4.0/Resources/bin/Rscript Rscript
Now I'm able to run Rscript through the command line. This may help someone else out there.
I installed Hadoop and Created a user named hduser and changes owner of hadoop folder to hduser.
After installing Hadoop i try to execute the hadoop command to check whether it is installed or not but it is giving "hadoop" command not found.
Then i had given execute privilege to hduser on all the files inside hadoop folder include bin folder
But still output is same.
When i am trying the same hadoop command with root as a user its working fine.
I think it is related to unix commands. Please help me out to give my user the privilege to execute hadoop command.
One more thing if i switch to root then hadoop commands works fine.
It is not a problem of privileges. You can still execute hadoop, if you type /usr/local/hadoop/bin/hadoop, right?
The problem is that $PATH is user-specific.
You have to add your $HADOOP_HOME/bin to the $PATH, as hduser, not as root. Login as hduser first (or just type su hduser) and then export PATH=$PATH:/$HADOOP_HOME/bin, as #iamkristian suggests, where $HADOOP_HOME is the directory in which you have placed hadoop (usually /usr/local/hadoop).
I sounds like hadoop isn't in your path. You can test that with
which hadoop
If that gives you command not found the you probably just need to add it to your path. Depending on where you installed hadoop, you need to add this to your ~/.bashrc
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/hadoop/bin/
And then reopen your terminal
I want to run a R script file (.r) using batch file.
If R.exe is in your PATH, then your windows batch file (.bat) would simply consist of one line:
R CMD BATCH your_r_script.R
otherwise, you need to give the path of R.exe, so for example:
"C:\Program Files\R\R-2.13.0\bin\R.exe" CMD BATCH your_r_script.R
you can add certain input arguments to the BATCH command, such as --no-save, --no-restore
so it would be
R CMD BATCH [options] your_r_script.R
more info on options, etc at http://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-devel/library/utils/html/BATCH.html
Note: R uses the command "BATCH" to non-interactively evaluate a script located in a file. Here we are running the command "BATCH" from a windows .BAT file, but that's merely a coincidence.
An answer to another question suggests using Rscript.exe, so your batch file would contain:
"C:\Program Files\R\R-3.0.2\bin\i386\Rscript.exe" your_script.R
pause
It is a good idea to add R to the windows environment path. In a comment in this question #chase gave a link that explains how to set the path on windows 7. Once R is added to the windows path, your batch file should become simply :
Rscript.exe your_script.R
pause
You can also directly call a R command by using the -e flag. For example this batchfile will tell R to set its current working directory to Documents, then it will print the working directory:
Rscript.exe -e setwd('Documents');getwd()
pause
I struggled with the syntax with the answers below, but this worked for me in the .bat file:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k ""path to Rscript.exe"
"path to .R script""
Be sure to place both the path to Rscript.exe and the script in "" together and separately as above.
I doubt you will be able to run it using a batch file.

Most known programs that use .r files do so for source code files it looks like. You will probably have to compile it using the program it was written for. I guess you could use a command line compiler from a batch file, but I don't know what language or applications you are using.
If you post the script file or give more information about it, we could probably help you better.
