Adobe AEM CMS - how to get a developer license to install locally to evaluate the product? - adobe

As the lead architect, I had no problem installing EPiServer CMS system, installing a test site (Alloy), and start writing MVC code in Visual studio to see what it could and could not do. This was assisted by EPiServer offering 6 video training courses which covered development, deployment hosting and enough about authoring to understand the key concepts (visitor groups, blocks, DAM etc). Now the organisation I consulted for is spending more than £100k per month on EPiserver licenses (3 DXC instances)
Now I have to evaluate AEM for a new project and new company. After considerable time searching for developer documentation, I found a guide to install AEM on a local machine with eclipse, Java 8 etc. However, it needs a license.properties. I found several posts asking how to get his, but none with a resolution. One has a link to a form which does not exist.
I filled out the sales contact form, as Adobe offer no way to contact them about AEM (no email, no chat) etc. I got no reply.
I also posted on the AEM adobe forum, asking if where was any way for a developer or consultant to get a license to evaluate the product from a technical perspective. I linked to a few of the older posts asking the same question, and pointed out that the links they provided were now dead. My post was deleted by Adobe. I have no idea why, unless they are trying to stop new customers from seeing their product before paying for it?
Any other developers or architects out there found a way to get a local dev trial license if your organisation has not purchased one?

Register on their partners portal : https://solutionpartners.adobe.com
Request product access here (here they force you to login) - https://solutionpartners.adobe.com/download/aemform/
In about 1-2 working days you get a download link and a license key. (Last I had to request access was quite sometime back so things might have changed)

to create customized website in Microsoft what tools do we need as an developer to build it ?

I am BA and want to know what things a developer needs to have to build a website in Microsoft (it will be fully customized / partially customized online service selling a website, have price calculator based on N no. of various option user select and lot of other things around it and the admin panel to change rate, tax, etc. in it)
The website will have automated email, payment, forms, reporting, role & access, a different type of end users & a lot of calculation logic as well.
I am listing the thing we need to install as i can find the cost (especially hidden cost to develop a website).
I am representing Non-IT company (not in India), then do we need to buy the licence for all the Microsoft tools developer needs? If yes please mention tools we need to buy a licence for along with the tools list
Thanks in advance for replying.
This is a pretty broad question, but for the functionality that you are describing, here is a very basic web development setup:
Windows server to host the website (x2 for dev)
Database server and software (SQL goes well with .net) (x2 for dev)
Microsoft Visual Studio to install on a desktop device to build the actual website, assuming you are building in C#.NET or VB.NET
Of course, your second paragraph lists additional functionality that may require more hardware, software, and integrations(email servers, payment systems, etc.) depending on what you have or don't have.
All of this can be hosted in a cloud platform like azure, aws, or it can be done internally

Sage Evolution website integration

A client asked us if it's possible to have the products on their website integrated with Sage Evolution so that when products are purchased online by users the stock values on Sage Evolution will be updated as well. The client would like this to be integrated with their existing WordPress site.
From what I've found so far, I don't think there's anything already available to use with WordPress except the SagePay through WooCommerce plugin. I'm not quite sure if this connects to a Sage client and updates the stock as well.
I found a Sage Evolution SDK that can be used but I doubt the client would buy with that kind of fees. There's also the SData api which I found here: Integrating with Sage Financial Software.
I'm not sure if you can use SData with Sage Evolution.
I would appreciate any help on this, thank in advance :)
As you've already noted, Sage Evolution has its own SDK and does not use the SData standard. Developers need to purchase a developer license and end-customers need to purchase a customer license.
I'd strongly recommend you don't go straight to the database as direct db writes could compromise transactional integrity and the Evolution database tends to change structurally quite frequently.
To use the SDK, you can't avoid the customer license fee but you can get a head start and avoid coding the integration by hand with Flowgear (www.flowgear.net). The Community plan is free and supports low transactional volumes. More about the connector at http://www.flowgear.net/pre-built/sage-evolution and https://developers.flowgear.net/kb/Node:Sage_Evolution
Disclosure: I work at Flowgear.

How to download sitecore CMS for personal/learning purpose?

I have been trying to download a copy of sitecore CMS for learning purposes. But when I goto their site it asks me for which client / organization I'm going to build this? So Is there anyway I could download a trail copy of CMS for my own use?
Thanks,
You can't download Sitecore because it's not free or Sitecore doesn't provide any trial version. To perform this you should have Sitecore certification or certified member credentials.
Please contact any near person who can provide you Sitecore.
In general, sitecore is not free and has more or less discontinued their "xpress" version of the software. You may be able to talk to the sales team, but unfortunately, it's not likely going to get you any where (from my own experience anyway). If you're company has a sitecore license, you should look into using that.

I'm developing website for freight(cargo) forwarding/logistics company.
It will be CMS based (Joomla or Wordpress). What I need is component/plugin (can be commercial)
that has this functionality: (doesnt have to work exactly this way)
It can be simple e-commerce/virtuemart extension, whatever that is close.
Client logs in
Adds his tracking number(cargo/order number whatever)
He will see his his cargo status and current place.
Cargo status can be managed manually in CMS backend via admin.
Doesn't have to work exactly this way, but basic idea is this.
It does not matter joomla or wordpress these are the things you have to do.

If you end up using Joomla, look into extension called Fabrik - http://www.fabrikar.com , that will give you an ability to maintain a list of custom defined entries (database table) and give the end-user ability to search through it (filter by individual fields). You can restrict which records (shipments) are visible to each user based on their username, etc.
I've created a few Web sites for freight forwarders, including cargo tracking sites and one thing I can say for sure - if they already use a TMS (Transportation Management System) where they already have tracking / status information they won't like the idea of double-entering it in another system. Fabrik is easily configurable to connect to external databases if this data is available elsewhere and tracking it there in real time.
Watch their tutorials, it is really powerful. Good luck.
You could do that with any of the well rated forms components for Joomla, which you can find at http://extensions.joomla.org

Public Share link in Alfresco Community edition 4

I saw that the Alfresco Cloud edition has nice share/publish features:
(source: alfresco.com)
Now I could not find this in the community edition, even though I found a place in the Admin Console under Content Publishing called Channel Manager where you can add different publish channels. I did not find a way to make use of them though!
Still my main question would be how to be able to generate public links for non users to access certain files.
Thanks!
The Alfresco Cloud is very new (it only went GA last week!). As such, it features quite a few new bits since the latest Alfresco Community 4.0 release, which came out at the start of the year. The "Public Share" feature is one of those.
The Alfresco 2012 Product Roadmap has been announced, which should give you an idea of what features are likely to be coming in the next Community Release, later this year. Almost all of the new features from the Cloud have either already been merged to Head already, or will be merged before the next Community release. I don't know if the public sharing will be merged or not (you'd need to pin down one of the product managers for a definitive answer on if that's something that'll be merged to community/enterprise, or if it's something that's too specific to the Cloud setup (so can't easily be re-used by other setups). In the mean time, you can keep an eye on the checkins to HEAD!
(If the feature you're interested in from Cloud has already been committed to head, then you can grab a nightly build and start playing with it aleady!)
