Mockito test for service call on Legacy code - spring-mvc

I am creating junit test case for legacy spring controller code which calls service (creates new instance of service call instead of autowire/spring bean). I want the service class call to be mocked. Please let know if it's possible. Changing the legacy code is not an option for me.

Spy and Mocktio calls real method options are not working. Please let know how to mock it.

How can I refactor my spring boot controller code to mock new instance creation in Mockito?

I have the following controller. I want to write unit test for this using JUnit and Mockito. The problem I'm facing is that mockito doesn't allow mocking of new instance creation that I'm doing with RestUserContext at the beginning of the method. How should I refactor my controller code?

I thought this is a standard configuration. But I get a 404 back. Where else should I configure Spring Boot ?

Update : I added a component scan pointing to a base package. I don't see that error now. Please see the comments where there is an answer.
As in the comment section ,there was only requirement was to bind a component scan base package location .
#Component scan -->Configures component scanning directives for use with #Configuration classes. Provides support parallel with Spring XML's element.
Either basePackageClasses() or basePackages() (or its alias value()) may be specified to define specific packages to scan. If specific packages are not defined, scanning will occur from the package of the class that declares this annotation.
Please share your project folder architecture. It might be possible that your controller package is out of the main class package. That's why it is showing 404.

This should be into your main package where

Seems using #JsonTest does not even allow to load Application Context, results mapping is not loaded and its throw 404 so #JsonTest is not a replacement for #SpringBootTest, it is a way to easily test json serialization/de-serialization.
As per documentation:
you can use the #JsonTest annotation. #JsonTest auto-configures the
available supported JSON mapper, which can be one of the following
libraries:
Jackson ObjectMapper, any #JsonComponent beans and any Jackson Modules
Gson
Jsonb
If by using Gson and removing #JsonTest your test run fine..(add Gson Dependency in pom)

It is beacause of the trailing slas in #RequestMapping(value = "/transactions/", method = RequestMethod.POST)
Remove it and it will be ok : value = "/transactions/" => value = "/transactions"

Mockito failure: Actually, there were zero interactions with this mock

I'm trying to test a spring rest controller class using JUnit, Mockito, Spring test and Spring Security test. The following is my rest controller class for which i'm performing the test;

I made the above test class by refering many tutorials. The problem is i'm not able to understand everything clearly. so, i'm having the following doubts.
I'm creating a mock of EmployeeService and injecting it into EmployeeRestController using #InjectMocks, then why i'm getting the following failure;
Wanted but not invoked:

Actually, there were zero interactions with this mock.
How does MockMvcBuilders.webAppContextSetup(webApplicationContext).build(); works exactly.
I know that MockMvcBuilders.standaloneSetup(employeeRestController) is for testing individual controller classes and spring configuration will not be available for this method. How can we provide spring configuraton for this method, is it possible.
Finally, how does this piece of code: Mockito.reset(employeeService); works.
1) you do verify for
verify(emploeeService, times(1)).fetchTimeZones();
but you didn't setup mock behaviour for it (before you call mockMvc.perform(get("/fetch-timezones"))).

2) create MockMvc from context. mockmvc emulates web container, use mock for all where is possible but supports http call and gave the possibility to call controller.
It stands up the Dispatcher Servlet and all required MVC components,
allowing us to test an endpoint in a proper web environment, but
without the overhead of running a server.
3) when you use:
#MockBean private EmployeeService employeeService;
you override real service. remove it from test class real service will be used in testing. Instead of use #Mock use #MockBean. #MockBean it's override by container, with #Mock you need to inject this into controller by reflection
or without spring boot with reflection:

4) Mockito.reset(employeeService);- you reset all behaviors that you setupped before. Mock contains information from when(), verify() and controls it , call reset - it's clean all information.

mvc controller test with session attribute

I'm trying to test a method with this signature:

userinfo is a class which contains informations about the user and set in session scope when the user logged in.but when I try the test :

The problem is the userinfo class attribute is set in another method so when i try to access it in this method i got a NullPointerException , and with Autowiring the httpSession i got a new Session for each method i have to test.
What should i do with the session attribute, my method doesn't accept a session parameter , and for each test it create a WebApplicationContext with a new session.
Try this :

but i don't have any experience with REST resource testing, in your case RestEasy.
If you want to test the full service inside the container you can have a look at the REST Assured framework for Java. It makes it very easy to test and validate HTTP/REST-based services.
