highlighting cell when mouse hovers over it - css

I want the table cells to highlight/change background colour when the mouse hovers over them.
Here is the declaration of the styles
.cells{
border-style:inset;
border-width:1px;
border-color:#06F;
background-color:#D6D6D6;
font-style: italic;
}
.cells td:hover{
background-color: #FF0000;
Here is the creation of the table:
<table class="table">
<tr>
<td></td>
<th colspan="5" class="specialCell">Cost Per Person</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th class="specialCell">Party Size</th>
<th class="headers"><?php echo $titles[0] ?></th>
<th class="headers"><?php echo $titles[1] ?></th>
<th class="headers"><?php echo $titles[2] ?></th>
<th class="headers"><?php echo $titles[3] ?></th>
<th class="headers"><?php echo $titles[4] ?></th>
</tr>
<?php
for ($y=0; $y<$rows_needed; $y++){
echo '<tr>';
echo '<th class="headers">'.$column1[$y].'</th>';
for ($i=0; $i<5; $i++){
$newValue = $column1[$y] * $titles[$i];
echo '<td class="cells">'.$newValue.'</td>'; //THIS IS WHERE THE CLASS IS CALLED
}
echo '</tr>';
}
?>
</table>
This however does not cause the table cell to change background colour when hovered over. Any ideas?

In your case .cells is the <td>. So your CSS should be:
.cells:hover{
background-color: #FF0000;
}

have you tried to add this style:
.headers:hover{
background-color: #FF0000;
}
Please try this snippet
.headers:hover {
background-color: tomato;
cursor: pointer;
}
<table class="table">
<tr>
<td></td>
<th colspan="5" class="specialCell">Cost Per Person</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th class="specialCell">Party Size</th>
<th class="headers">A</th>
<th class="headers">B</th>
<th class="headers">C</th>
<th class="headers">D</th>
</tr>
</table>

</mat-accordion>
There are a few things...
the lower table is a child of .mat-expansion-panel, so for the table outside it, we mimic the padding:0 24px
but there is also a down arrow for mat-expansion-indicator so we gotta increase the padding on the right side by 8px
next, we text-align center for the bottom table (which is inside the mat-expansion) so that the effect is similar
I have also put a red borders on the <td> so that you can see this
relevant CSS:
th, td{border:1px solid red;}
.table-responsive>.table{padding:0 32px 0 24px;}
mat-expansion-panel-header .table td{text-align: center}

How to change table 'td' color based on key change in foreach loop

I am trying to set color when my $key value is changed. I mean I am generating a table when my $key is changing. Now I want to set a different bg-color when the $key is changing and a new table created. Now the <th colspan="5">{{$key}}</th> is changing and creating table for each $key I need to set color that $key is changing.
#foreach($lists as $key => $ser)
<table class="table table-striped table-bordered table-hover" id="sample_3">
<thead>
<tr>
<th colspan="5">{{$key}}</th>
</tr>
<tr>
<th> Destination</th>
<th> Services</th>
<th> Status</th>
<th> Time</th>
</tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
#foreach($ser as $s)
<tr>
<td style="background: rgb(176,224,230);"> TE 17 <br/>{{$s->sp}}</td>
<td> {{$s->dd}}</td>
<td> {{$s->ss}}</td>
<td> {{$s->dt}}</td>
</tr>
#endforeach
</tbody>
</table>
#endforeach
You can use a variable to store the value of $key in each loop. Then you can check to see if the $key is same as the previous one and change the color accordingly.
#php($prevvalue='')
#foreach($ser as $s)
<tr>
<td style="background: {{$s->key == $prevvalue ? 'oldcolor','newcolor'}}"> TE 17 <br/>{{$s->sp}}</td>
<td> {{$s->dd}}</td>
<td> {{$s->ss}}</td>
<td> {{$s->dt}}</td>
</tr>
#php($prevvalue = $s->key)
#endforeach
You can first add class from blade to group elements having similar value :
#php($prev = null)
#php($counter = 1)
#foreach($ser as $s)
#php
$counter = $s->key == $prev || is_null($prev) ? $counter : $counter + 1;
#endphp
<tr>
<td class="td_color_{{ $counter }}"> TE 17 <br/>{{$s->sp}}</td>
<td> {{$s->dd}}</td>
<td> {{$s->ss}}</td>
<td> {{$s->dt}}</td>
</tr>
#php($prev = $s->key)
#endforeach
This will give you following for the first column in each <tr> :
<td class="td_color_1">...</td>
<td class="td_color_1">...</td>
<td class="td_color_2">...</td>
<td class="td_color_2">...</td>
<td class="td_color_3">...</td>
<td class="td_color_4">...</td>
<td class="td_color_5">...</td>
Then in your css you have colors for these :
<style type="text/css">
td.td_color_1 { background: red; }
td.td_color_2 { background: blue; }
td.td_color_3 { background: green; }
td.td_color_4 { background: yellow; }
td.td_color_5 { background: pink; }
</style>

How to retain the width of table columns when hiding columns?

I have a table that has six columns, five of which can be hidden based on user selection(s). The issue that I'm having is that when a column is hidden all other columns expand to fill the space that the hidden column occupied. What I would like to occur instead is for the column to just hide and the remaining columns shift to the left while retaining the widths that they were given. None of the answers that I have found on here seem to address this particular issue.
Below is snips of both my js and css along with screen grabs.
js:
<table className="hours table table-bordered table-sm" table-layout="fixed">
<thead>
<tr>
<th scope="col"
colSpan="3"
className="row-dow"
>
Hours
</th>
<th
scope="col"
colSpan="2"
align="center"
hidden={this.state.kitchenHoursSame}
className="row-16"
>

</th>
<th
scope="col"
colSpan="2"
align="center"
hidden={!this.state.breakfast}
className="row-16"
>

</th>
...
</tr>
<tr>
<th

<th

<th

<th

<th

hidden={!this.state.breakfast}
className="row-8"
>
End
</th>
...
</tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
{this.state.DOW.map((dowList, i) =>
<tr>
<th scope="row" key={dowList.i}>{dowList.long}</th>
<td>
<select name="timeofday"
value={this.state.timeofday}
onChange={this.handleInputChange}>
<option>
(open)
</option>
</select>
</td>
...
</tr>
)}
</tbody>
</table>
css:
.hours {
table-layout: fixed;
/* width: 90%; */
width: 1500px;
white-space: nowrap;
}
.hours td {
white-space: nowrap;
overflow: hidden;
text-overflow: ellipsis;
}
.row-dow {
width: 20px;
}
.row-16 {
width: 16px;
}
.row-8 {
width: 8px;
}
Any help would be appreciated even if it is being told that I shouldn't be using tables and should be using something else.
The snippet below shows you how different width defined tables behave when a column is going to be deleted.
window.addEventListener("load", () => {
const firstTDs = Array.from(
document.querySelectorAll("td:nth-child(3)")
).concat(Array.from(document.querySelectorAll("th:nth-child(3)")));
document.querySelector(".remove").addEventListener(
"click",
() => {
firstTDs.forEach(td => {
td.parentNode.removeChild(td);
});
},
{ once: true }
);
});
.full-width {
width: 100%;
}
.fixed-width {
width: 600px;
}

If you have no problem rendering table content everytime, this can be handled using css property visibility: hidden; which hides the element with space occupied in the dom. See for : visibilty hidden
Approach :
Instead of using hidden attribute on th or td, i have used class = hideColumn which is defined to hide the element.
Next border: none to remove the border from the element.
In your case, you can also use 'class' attribute to achieve this.
If this is not helpful please let me know in the comments, or if anything can be done to take this near to required solution.
table {
font-family: arial, sans-serif;
border-collapse: collapse;
width: 100%;
font-size: 10px;
}
.hideColumn {
visibility: hidden;
border: none;
}
h2 {
font-size: 12px;
}
td, th {
border: 1px solid #dddddd;
text-align: left;
padding: 8px;
}
<h2>Visible All Column Table</h2>
<table>
<tr>
<th >Company</th>
<th>Contact</th>
<th>Country</th>
</tr>
<tr >
<td >Alfreds Futterkiste</td>
<td>Maria Anders</td>
<td>Germany</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Centro comercial Moctezuma</td>
<td>Francisco Chang</td>
<td>Mexico</td>
</tr>
</table>
<br>
<h2>Hidden 1st Column Table</h2>
<table>
<tr>
<th class='hideColumn'>Company</th>
<th>Contact</th>
<th>Country</th>
</tr>
<tr >
<td class='hideColumn'>Alfreds Futterkiste</td>
<td>Maria Anders</td>
<td>Germany</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class='hideColumn'>Centro comercial Moctezuma</td>
<td>Francisco Chang</td>
<td>Mexico</td>
</tr>
</table>
<br>
<h2>Hidden 2nd Column Table</h2>
<table>
<tr>
<th >Company</th>
<th class='hideColumn'>Contact</th>
<th>Country</th>

<td class='hideColumn'>Maria Anders</td>
<td>Germany</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td >Centro comercial Moctezuma</td>
<td class='hideColumn'>Francisco Chang</td>
<td>Mexico</td>

Approach 2:
Just make the text transparent.
.otherDiv table {
font-family: arial, sans-serif;
border-collapse: collapse;
width: 100%;
font-size: 10px;
border: 1px solid #dddddd;
}
.otherDiv .hideColumn {
color: transparent;
}
h2 {
font-size: 12px;
}
.otherDiv td, th {
border-top: 1px solid #dddddd;
border-bottom: 1px solid #dddddd;
text-align: left;
padding: 8px;
}
<div class='otherDiv'>
<h2>Visible All Column Table</h2>
<table>
<tr>
<th >Company</th>
<th>Contact</th>
<th>Country</th>
</tr>
<tr >
<td >Alfreds Futterkiste</td>
<td>Maria Anders</td>
<td>Germany</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Centro comercial Moctezuma</td>
<td>Francisco Chang</td>
<td>Mexico</td>
</tr>
</table>
<br>
<h2>Hidden 1st Column Table</h2>
<table>
<tr>
<th class='hideColumn'>Company</th>
<th>Contact</th>
<th>Country</th>
</tr>
<tr >
<td class='hideColumn'>Alfreds Futterkiste</td>
<td>Maria Anders</td>
<td>Germany</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class='hideColumn'>Centro comercial Moctezuma</td>
<td>Francisco Chang</td>
<td>Mexico</td>
</tr>
</table>
<br>
<h2>Hidden 2nd Column Table</h2>
<table>
<tr>
<th >Company</th>
<th class='hideColumn'>Contact</th>
<th>Country</th>
</tr>
<tr >
<td >Alfreds Futterkiste</td>
<td class='hideColumn'>Maria Anders</td>
<td>Germany</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td >Centro comercial Moctezuma</td>
<td class='hideColumn'>Francisco Chang</td>

Double border on Bootstrap accordion when collapsed

I have a page that displays information from a db in a while loop. Using Bootstrap table and a var $loopcounter that gives each line a separate id. When cliking on a line I am able to expand on the information for each row. This works perfect, thanks to SO and Google.
My problem now is that the table is displaying a double line for the hidden/collapsed row. I have tried several solutions like padding:0 !important, border-color: #FFF, border-color: none, nothing seems to work. Also tried colspan, but that only expands the double line further.
HTML:
<table class="table table-striped table-hover">
<thead>
<th>Name</th>
<th>Age</th>
<th>Adr</th>
</thead>
<tbody>
<?php while ($row = $variable->fetch()) { $loopcounter++ ;?>
<tr data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#row<?php echo $loopcounter; ?>" class="accordion-toggle">
<td><?php echo $row['name']; ?></td>
<td><?php echo $row['age']; ?></td>
<td><?php echo $row['adr']; ?></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="hiddenRow"><div class="accordian-body collapse" id="row<?php echo $loopcounter; ?>">
<table>
<thead><tr><td>Some Header</td></tr></thead>
<tbody><tr><td><?php echo $row['name']; ?></td></tr></tbody>
</table>
</div>
</td>
</tr>
<?php } ?>
</tbody>
</table>
CSS:
.hiddenRow {
padding: 0 !important;
border-color: FFF;
}
IMAGE:
Notice the double border when row is collapsed
It had actually a pretty easy solution, just styled the hidden TD with border:none

How to make fixed header table inside scrollable div?

I want to make header of my table fixed. Table is present inside the scrollable div. Below is my code.
<div id="table-wrapper">
<div id="table-scroll">
<table bgcolor="white" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" id="header-fixed" width="100%" overflow="scroll" class="scrollTable">
<thead>
<tr>
<th>Order ID</th>
<th>Order Date</th>
<th>Status</th>
<th>Vol Number</th>
<th>Bonus Paid</th>
<th>Reason for no Bonus</th>
</tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
<tr>
<td><%=snd.getOrderId()%></td>
<td><%=snd.getDateCaptured()%></td>
<td><%=snd.getOrderStatus()%></td>
<td>Data Not Available</td>
<td>Data Not Available</td>
<td>Data Not Available</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
</div>
</div>
Below is my CSS, which I am using for the above div:
#table-wrapper {
position:relative;
}
#table-scroll {
height:250px;
overflow:auto;
margin-top:20px;
}
#table-wrapper table {
width:100%;
}
#table-wrapper table * {
background:white;
color:black;
}
#table-wrapper table thead th .text {
position:absolute;
top:-20px;
z-index:2;
height:20px;
width:35%;
border:1px solid red;
}
How about doing something like this? I've made it from scratch...
What I've done is used 2 tables, one for header, which will be static always, and the other table renders cells, which I've wrapped using a div element with a fixed height, and to enable scroll, am using overflow-y: auto;
Also make sure you use table-layout: fixed; with fixed width td elements so that your table doesn't break when a string without white space is used, so inorder to break that string am using word-wrap: break-word;
Demo
.wrap {
width: 352px;
}
.wrap table {
width: 300px;
table-layout: fixed;
}
table tr td {
padding: 5px;
border: 1px solid #eee;
width: 100px;
word-wrap: break-word;
}
table.head tr td {
background: #eee;
}
.inner_table {
height: 100px;
overflow-y: auto;
}
<div class="wrap">
<table class="head">
<tr>
<td>Head 1</td>
<td>Head 1</td>
<td>Head 1</td>
</tr>
</table>
<div class="inner_table">
<table>
<tr>
<td>Body 1</td>
<td>Body 1</td>
<td>Body 1</td>
</tr>
<!-- Some more tr's -->
</table>
</div>
</div>
Using position: sticky on th will do the trick.
Note: if you use position: sticky on thead or tr, it won't work.
https://jsfiddle.net/hrg3tmxj/
Some of these answers seem unnecessarily complex. Make your tbody:
display: block; height: 300px; overflow-y: auto
Then manually set the widths of each column so that the thead and tbody columns are the same width. Setting the table's style="table-layout: fixed" may also be necessary.
None of the other examples provided worked in my case - e.g. header would not match table body content when scrolling. I found a much simpler and clean way, allowing you to setup the table the normal way, and without too much code.
Example:
.table-wrapper{
overflow-y: scroll;
height: 100px;
}
.table-wrapper th{
position: sticky;
top: 0;
background-color: #FFF;
}
<div class="table-wrapper">
<table>
<thead>
<tr>
<th>Header 1</th>
<th>Header 2</th>
<th>Header 3</th>
</tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
<tr>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
<td>Text</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
</div>

I think you need something like this ?
.....
<style>
.table{width: 500px;height: 200px;border-collapse:collapse;}
.table-wrap{max-height: 200px;width:100%;overflow-y:auto;overflow-x:hidden;}
.table-dalam{height:300px;width:500px;border-collapse:collapse;}
.td-nya{border-left:1px solid white;border-right:1px solid grey;border-bottom:1px solid grey;}
</style>
<table class="table">
<thead>
<tr>
<th>Judul1</th>
<th>Judul2</th>
<th>Judul3</th>
<th>Judul4</th>
</tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
<tr>
<td colspan="4">
<div class="table-wrap" >
<table class="table-dalam">
<tbody>
<?php foreach(range(1,10) as $i): ?>
<tr >
<td class="td-nya">td1 </td>
<td class="td-nya">td2</td>
<td class="td-nya">td2</td>
<td class="td-nya">td2</td>
</tr>
<?php endforeach;?>
</tbody>
</table>
</div>
</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>

I needed the same and this solution worked the most simple and straightforward way:
http://www.farinspace.com/jquery-scrollable-table-plugin/
I just give an id to the table I want to scroll and put one line in Javascript. That's it!
By the way, first I also thought I want to use a scrollable div, but it is not necessary at all. You can use a div and put it into it, but this solution does just what we need: scrolls the table.
This is my "crutches" solution by using html and css.
There used 2 tables and fixed width of tables and table cell`s

A Fiddle would have been more helpful nevertheless from what I understand, I guess what you need is persistent headers, look into this
http://css-tricks.com/persistent-headers/
This code works form me. Include the jquery.js file.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src="jquery.js"></script>
<script>
var headerDivWidth=0;
var contentDivWidth=0;
function fixHeader(){
var contentDivId = "contentDiv";
var headerDivId = "headerDiv";
var header = document.createElement('table');
var headerRow = document.getElementById('tableColumnHeadings');
/*Start : Place header table inside <DIV> and place this <DIV> before content table*/
var headerDiv = "<div id='"+headerDivId+"' style='width:500px;overflow-x:hidden;overflow-y:scroll' class='tableColumnHeadings'><table></table></div>";
$(headerRow).wrap(headerDiv);
$("#"+headerDivId).insertBefore("#"+contentDivId);
/*End : Place header table inside <DIV> and place this <DIV> before content table*/
fixColumnWidths(headerDivId,contentDivId);
}
function fixColumnWidths(headerDivId,contentDivId){
/*Start : Place header row cell and content table first row cell inside <DIV>*/
var contentFirstRowCells = $('#'+contentDivId+' table tr:first-child td');

use StickyTableHeaders.js for this.
Header was transparent . so try to add this css .
thead {
border-top: none;
border-bottom: none;
background-color: #FFF;
}
I know this question is old, but if anyone have this same issue, an easy way without having to write lots of CSS, just wrap your <table> with <div> and your <div> should have a style with overflow-y: auto; and some height.
As below example:
<div style="overflow-y: auto; height: 400px;">
<table>...</table>
</div>
Add a style to the thead as below:
thead {
position: sticky;
top: 0;z-index: 2;
}
