R studio not responding - r

My RStudio is opening multiple processes(opening R Studio in different windows) when I open just one. I am not able to open any project. It becomes unresponsive. I tried using in compatibility mode, running as admin and also uninstalled. But still,(here's the image) the same problem persists. Can someone please help me?

Before you reinstall everything, which may take a lot of time, it is worth removing application data, which is a cache R keeps of last sessions etc. It involves settings such as information from last session, etc which RStudio tries to reopen every time you open it.
For app data, look under your user folder which must be somewhere like
c:\Users\<your_user_here\AppData\Local
c:\Users\<your_user_here\AppData\Local\LocalLow
c:\Users\<your_user_here\AppData\Roaming
Delete every subfolder called R, RStudio-Desktop or RStudio under these folders. Don't worry, you won't lose your source program files and projects. It may help you recover everything without having to start over from scratch.

RStudio hangs for a specific project. What file needs to be changed?

I have a project that I've been working on for several months without a problem. Yesterday I tried to profile a bit of code using the raster package that was taking a very long time to run. I left it running overnight and found RStudio unresponsive in the morning. Now when I open that project, I can't do anything except to force quit RStudio. Other projects appear to work fine.
I suspect something bad is stored in the file(s) that remembers where I was. Is there one or more that I can delete and regain control of the project. Candidates in the project folder would seem to be one or more items in the .Rproj.user directory.
I found a tip on the RStudio website. In a terminal, navigate to the project directory and rename .Rproj.user to something different. I used this command - mv .Rproj.user .Rproj.user_old. This keeps the user-specific information around in case you want to go back to it.

How to recover RStudio session after crash?

I would like to know how to restore my previous RStudio session after RStudio and the R session crashed.
Background:
I find that my R session crashes very often, at random times for random reasons. I am fine with that I guess.
Most of the time RStudio restarts the R session and I can continue.
But sometimes it just freezes at which time I noticed power cycling the entire machine allows RStudio to recover and even reload my old session.
Stupid me, I don't think power cycling is a good idea so I manually killed the R session, but then RStudio responded but was not really working so I restarted it and it came back with an empty work-space.
I have been backing up with Session->Save Workspace As, but it seems to do nothing as recovering leaves me with the blank empty environment.
I am looking to restore the RStudio display, including the command history , which for a novice like me is precious, and my list of open scripts, some of which were unsaved at the time of the crash.
I am assuming since RStudio can recover itself, there is a file somewhere I can use to recover it.
And if there is no way to recover, how can I completely save my workspace so this cannot happen again?
Also, is there a proper way to recover from an RStudio freeze without a hard reset?
It has been a while since I asked this question. I was never able to fully recover, but I switched to Rprojects which is the recommended way to use Rstudio.
Rprojects are stored in a folder and they remember all files and data from that project in that folder.
This did not help me with my initial problem, but projects prevent it from happening again. The hard part is moving a work-space to a project if it was not in a project to start.
Hi the first step of this article helped me entirely.
https://datacornering.com/how-to-restore-closed-unsaved-script-in-rstudio/
Basically, if on windows, go to C:\Users\xx\AppData\Local\RStudio\sources\s-xx and find a file with "-contents" at the end. This is your unsaved file.

RStudio project "cannot find the file specified" on R session restart

I am getting strange and annoying behavior in one (yes, only one) of my RStudio projects. Whenever I restart the R session within this project, I can no longer save any of the files, and when I try to (or RStudio tries to automatically) I get a popup error saying "The system cannot find the file specified" and I have to reopen the project and all of the R scripts.
I looked at the log file, and I see a lot of the following error:
07 Oct 2015 00:52:05 [rsession-Mark] ERROR system error 5 (Access is denied) [path=C:/Users/Mark/GoogleDrive/Research/CEQUAL_event/.Rproj.user/5E5F98D9/sdb/s-26E44539/lock_file];
OCCURRED AT: bool rstudio::core::FilePath::exists() const C:\Users\Administrator\rstudio\src\cpp\core\FilePath.cpp:308;
LOGGED FROM: bool rstudio::core::FilePath::exists() const C:\Users\Administrator\rstudio\src\cpp\core\FilePath.cpp:308
It looks like the problem may be in the .Rproj.user folder. So I deleted that and let RStudio regenerate it, but the behavior started right back up again.
I am using Windows 7, RStudio version 0.99.441, and R version 3.2.2.
I think #Jack Wasey is right: Google drive locks files during sync. This causes many issues with other programs as well. There are alternatives from companies that do file syncing for a living, such as dropbox, whose clients don't lock files. With google drive you only have the option to use selective sync and exclude every .Rproj.user folder. Once the RStudio's database is corrupted, moving the project out of the Google drive folder won't be enough - you will need to delete/rename it to have RStudio fix its database.
Summary:
Copy contents from all unsaved files to a temp file outside of RStudio (while clicking away the error message every other second)
Quit Rstudio
Pause Google drive syncing
Rename (or move/delete) the hidden .Rproj.user folder in your project
Reopen the project in Rstudio
Exclude the new .Rproj.user folder from syncing with Google drive (Preferences -> sync only these folders)
Remember that Google drive is free / Become an awesome google developer and fix the issue once and for all
May not be related but might be helpful to someone else. I was getting the same error (over and over) and finally realized that I had an R session open from days ago, that had eventually gotten stuck. It was running in the background with a "Fatal Error" message waiting for me to click OK. When I closed that session everything started working again.
This was happening to me as well, but curiously only when I was using Project files (.Rproj - not stand alone R scripts). It was driving me crazy.
I found that buried in the settings (Tools -> Global Options -> Git/SVN) there was a setting "Enable Version Control Interface for RStudio Projects). I guess I had turned that option on when I was messing with my settings and then forgot about it since I don't normally use project files.
What worked for me was I noticed DescTools package I installed caused it, though it served the purpose I installed it - fetched me mode value without going through mode functions. I then deleted the line I got the install.package, re-saved the project (ctrl S) and I could knit it.
Bottom line, read the error message soon as the box pops up, it's going to give you a hint of what line is causing the issue.
I hope this works. Enjoy

Rstudio opens all files in package after build

Every time I build my package after a modification, R studio will display every file in the package as untitled, and I have to close them and reopen them in order to modify files before another build. To be honest, it doesn't affect functionality that much, but is annoying and can sometimes cause Rstudio to crash.
Has anyone seen this before, and can suggest a fix?
I would post a screenshot, but I am new to stackoverflow and don't have enough reputation (10).
I haven't figured out what caused the problem, but I was able to solve it by deleting all the project files produced by Rstudio (.RProj.user, packagename.Rproj, .Rhistory, .Rbuildignore), and then creating a new project in the existing directory.

RStudio server - Hangs when switching projects

I am currently running RStudio via a server installation that I only partially maintain. I am working with some fairly large data sets and models (> 9 million rows of 611 variables). When I try to switch projects, RStudio hangs when loading the project (it says "Switching projects to..." at the top) or, if it loads, takes forever.
RStudio works otherwise while attempting to switch projects, but menus and the like do not work.
I have searched thoroughly for a fix to no avail. How would I go about troubleshooting (or, ideally, fixing) the problem?
RStudio is running on a linux (Open SuSE) VM.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Per this thread: https://stackoverflow.com/a/15373596/3469671, I deleted .rstudio from my home directory and that seemed to free things up. Is there some setting I can change to facilitate the loading of larger projects?
Per this thread, I deleted .rstudio from my home directory and that seemed to free things up.
As a practice, I learned to stop saving my workspace while it was loaded with data and included steps within projects to save and load prepared data.
