usage of " SapGuiLibrary.Doubleclick Element " in robot framework using Python - robotframework

I am trying to double click in an object in a table falling under a shell in sapwingui (for test automation) using robot framework sapgui library with Python,
and i am trying to use the function SapGuiLibrary.Doubleclick .
The function has three arguments :
element_id, item_id, column_id
Can someone please let me know what exactly is difference between element and item id here.

Robot Framework: How to sort by

I have a webpage with a combobox to sort a list by Price, Name,... The list is in many pages, so I need to get all elements first and after, I will sort by and check if the elements are correct. Right?
I am trying to do it and navigate for all pages and get all elements. But it is only taking the elements in first page. I am totally new in Robot framework.
Does anyone have a suggestion how I can do it?

First and foremost, by your code sample's indent it looks like you're doing nested for loops - an outer one for the changing the pages, and an inner that'll get the text in each row. The thing is - Robot Framework doesn't support nested for loops - see the documentation.
What happened on execution is the first loop (the pagination) ran with just two statements and finished:

Then all the rest were executed as part of the second.
A solution would be to have a keyword "Get All Values In The Table" that'll hold the inner loop, and call it in the current outer, which will paginate.
Another issue - you're using IN RANGE, passing 1 as start and ${cnt} as end; if it had value of 4, you probably expect the tracking variable to get all values from 1 to 4.
Yet range works with the first argument inclusive, and up to - but not getting to - the second argument; thus it covers the range 1 to 3. To salvage that, you'd need to set the upper bound to cnt+1, e.g. ${cnt + 1}.
Minor stuff:
You have a statement that's within the loop block, but not prefixed with \:
${get_names}= Select All From List //table[#class='result-table']/tbody/tr[${i}]/td/div/div[2]/div/a
I'm surprised it didn't give you a syntax error - it effectively breaks the loop, and the framework should complain the next lines are prefixed as if in a loop, but one is not started.

When you are changing the pages by the click, you are not making sure the UI has loaded the data for the new page. If this happens through ajax calls, you may very well be working with the previous page's data, thinking it is the new one - the selenium click returns control very fast, and the operands for getting the text are running - while the UI still waits for the new data and is displaying the previous one.

In RF version 3.1 the loop syntax is different - the block members are not prefixed with \, and it's closed with an END statement.
I'd suggest to migrate to it - a) the current one is going to be eventually deprecated, and b) in the new one the nesting would have been marked as syntax error (you're starting a new loop without END-ing the running one), instead of silently passing with unexpected behavior.

How to loop on a table column?

In order to click the correct element, you probably need to compare the variable content with your expected value. That can be done this way:

Run Keyword If ${areYouMyLine} Click Elementxpath=//*[#id="customers"]/tbody/tr[${index}]/td[1]
And also don't forget to Exit your For Loop since you found your element.

However this is not the best practice. You probably should go to your product team asking for some data attributes which will help you to find your line. Alternatively, if you know your table content, put it into a list and use For In Loop instead. How to check if a substring exists inside a 'Result' object with Robot Framework?

The variable ${result.stderr} is a string that contains the substring 'element xref: validity error : IDREFS attribute rid references an unknown'. As far as I know, I'm not dealing with any whitespace errors or quotation problems, although I could be wrong. (I've been fiddling around with that for a while now.)

Edit: The log that Robot Framework generates tells me that the process has finished (that's how I know what result.stderr contains.)
Consider this statement:
Run Keyword Unless '${result.stderr} == ${EMPTY}' ...
The keyword will never run because you aren't comparing two variables, you are simply checking whether the string literal string '${result.stderr} == ${EMPTY}' is not empty (and it's not, because it has 28 characters).
It is the same as if you did this in python:
if len('${result.stderr} == ${EMPTY}') > 0:
...
You need to put the single quotes around each variable separately so that you are passing a valid expression to the if statement, rather than a string that looks like a valid expression:
Run Keyword Unless '${result.stderr}' == '${EMPTY}' ...

Robot Framework running multiple testcases using csv and for loop

I have a csv file which contains TestcaseID,Testcase Description,Tag and input to the testcase like below
TUNG001,sample1,sampletag1,01
TUNG002,sample2,sampletag2,02
I want to iterate through this file and fetch each row and start a test case(which will be TestcaseID) using a common function.
After researching, I found out that this feature is not implemented in Robot Framework.
Someone please suggest how I can achieve this.
Here's how you COULD do this, below this is are better ways to do it.
Read the entire file using OperatingSystem GetFile
As there is a new testcase on every line, split file contents on newline using String keyword Split To Lines
Use String keyword Split String to split line into testcase and inputs.
Use OperatingSystem Run inside a for-loop to execute each test.
Instead of doing that way, you should instead use resource and variable files to define the input for each of the testcases, and then just execute the entire test suite (or specified test cases) with the file as input.
This will essentially do all of that work for you for free.

Is it possible to write Robot Framework tests (not keywords) in Python?

Is it possible to write Robot Framework tests in Python instead of the .txt format?
Behind the scenes it looks like the .txt test get converted into Python by pybot so I'm hoping that this is simply a matter of importing the right library and inheriting from the right class but I haven't been able to figure out how to do that.
(We already have a bunch of suites and have keywords written in both formats but sometimes the RF syntax makes it very difficult to do things that are simple in Python. I understand it would be possible to just write a Python keyword for each test plus 'wrap' setup and teardown functions the same way, but that seems cumbersome.)
Robot does not convert your test cases to python behind the scenes before running them. Instead, it parses the test cases, then iterates over each keyword, calling the code that implements the keyword. There isn't ever a stage where there's a completely pure python representation of a test case.
It is not possible to write tests in python, and have those tests run alongside traditional robot tests by the provided test runner. Like you said in your question, your only option is to put all of your logic for a single test case in a single keyword, and call that keyword from a test case.
It is possible to create and execute tests in python solely via the published API. This might not be what you're really asking for, because ultimately you're still creating keywords, you're just creating them via python.

Well, you should not care if your python code represents tests or keywords as long as you code the logic of the tests in python.
The best you can do is to keep some html tables in robot format. Each line would be a call for a keyword. The keyword could be implemented in python, and, logically, represents a whole test (although in robot terminology it is still a "keyword").
This post shows how you can have access to the robot context from your python code.

Robotframework does not support writting test cases in python directly. I've submitted an enhancement PR, check it here

But I've tried to do that by moving all the test cases logic to python code, and make RF test cases just a entry point to them.
Here is an example.
We could create a python file to include all testing logic and setup/teardown logic, like this

And then we creat a Robot file. In which all RF test cases are in the same form and just work as entry points to python test cases above.

You could see, in this way, the RF testcases are similar. We could even create a tool to auto generate them by scanning Python testcases.
