I have a site in English that I want to automatically translate using google translate into other languages based on navigator language of the user's browser, i.e if their browser is in German - translate from English to German, if browser language is French, English to French etc.
I don't want the user to have to select language translation from a drop-down, but just have it translated according to their preferred browser language settings.
I've looked at every previous question and no-one seems to have sorted this. Can anyone help?

Simplest of the solution is to present the website in English (or the language you get most visitors) and ask the visitors to select the language by themselves based on their priority. But if you have no choice but to redirect them, then either create your own plugin or use that is already there. You can try plugins like IP2Location Redirection or WPML automatic language with GeoIP.
I want to be able to offer translation to other languages when the browser language is the same as the default lang in google translate.
I am using the translate widget from google and if the language matches the widget, it is not being shown, if not i works as it is supposed to, how can i force it to appear?
I'm trying to get plone.app.multilingual to work with a site which is currently in English, but will become partially translated. I'm using plone.app.multilingual rather than the more familiar LinguaPlone because of Dexterity content types used by the site which LinguaPlone does not support.
I have a test site to play with. As soon as I translate one page it seems to create a /en folder for the English content and (e.g.) /fr one for the French. I can switch back and forth between the two language variants of the page, but once I'm in the French language I can't see all the other English pages. As a site visitor this is no use and it ignores the fact that although a browser may be set to prefer French, it might also accept English. I have selected what I believe to be the relevant options to allow fallback to the default site language and it lets me view them if I know the URL of the page, but that's not much use if I don't see that the content is there in the first place.
Can plone.app.multilingual be made to work in such a way that a user can see a page of content in some language even if it's not their own, or is my only option to convert the site to use Archetypes?

LinguaPlone would handle this case the same way: Make all content 'language neutral', except for where there is a translation.
By marking all your content 'language neutral', it'll be found and displayed to the end-user no matter what language preference has been set. Now, if any of your content does have a translsation, you do need to set English as the language for the original version so that it'll only be displayed when English is selected.
To do this, you probably can use a subscriber to the plone.multilingual.events.IObjectTranslatedEvent.
As for the creation of en/ and fr/ locations for your content, that's the task of the ITranslationLocator adapter (from plone.multilingual.interfaces, you can override that adapter to provide your own choices. See the default implementations for how this currently works.
I'm trying to have my fanpage's "welcome" page to show a different video and lines of text wether they are using french settings on facebook or english. So those using the french facebook UI will see the french video and text below and those using the default english will see the default english page.
Hopefully someone can point me to some help, I really am not sure how ot do this...

I don't think you can translate the non-app facebook page at the moment.
When a user access the fanpage's tab, the application that provides the tab content get 'signed_request' from Facebook. In signed_request, there is 'user.locale' property. Just use it to determine what locale code the user is using.

I have created a website using DNN. The site has arabic characters in URL after the domain name. For example: http://www.example.com/اسعارالعملات.aspx.
My questions are:
Is this URL read by non Arabic supportive operating systems or browsers or will it give the user an error?
Is it good for SEO to have Arabic in URL or not?
Are there any other problems due to the use of Arabic characters?

[1] Yes they will work fine due to Internationalized Resource Identifiers.
[2] If you are targeting Arabic search results then yes having arabic in the url bar is good for SEO. I am sure Google does clever translation stuff tho as well.
[3] Copy pasting the URL will look funny due to [1] If you look at Arabic wikipedia and try copy paste their url somewhere you will see what I mean.

I know Google does put some weight into what is in the url so for example having page-title.aspx will be better than pagetitle. I would imagine that the same rules apply for having foreign language urls - it will help increase results when people are searching for terms that are included in your arabic word.
Most browsers will deal with it fine I don't think you need to have a special language pack installed. Arabic Wikipedia works fine though the characters get mapped using Internationalized Resource Identifiers.

I always liked how backspace and delete work the other way around with Arabic text.
I think a better way to make the link in number format as the url in arabic doesn't look ok on different search engines ( bing for example )
making the url readable by google not a big ( although it may count to be a good seo practice ) but there is many other good ways to help in that like page title and keywords in page and so on..
