I've just installed QT Creator and I wanted to continue developing an old C++ UI application that I designed in 2015. The installation completed without any errors. But when I try to open project and browse to my .pro to load the project, I a pop-up info box appears with the following message:
No valid settings file could be found.
All settings files found in
directory "/Users/.../workspace/appname/appname.pro.user" were
unsuitable for the current version of Qt Creator.
what is the problem and how can I troubleshoot and fix it ?
When you create a project and configure it for a particular kit .. that's stored in ( .pro.user) file .. Now that you installed Qt recently on PC, the Qt versions/kits are not same as what you configured in your earlier project .. Creator does not find that old configuration matching anything on new Qt environment .. so the message.
You can always delete that file ( .pro.user) without any problem, if you want to port your project to different Qt environment (like another PC .. another platform .. etc) and Creator will prompt you to select new configuration (Kits). and that won't affect your code , it would work as before as far as its compatible with new selected kit.

Whenever I make a Qt project, the qmake command includes this parameter:
"CONFIG+=qml_debug"
I never use qml and dont want to manually click three times and ignore the warning every time I generate a new project.
It happened to me in a project. I just added this to the .pro file :
CONFIG -= qml_debug
It seems to work.
You can download Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition, it's free to use. And it is not only a great IDE but also it has got Qt support. By downloading Qt plug in for Microsoft Visuals Studio you can create Qt projects and build and debug them...
Everything that you do with Qt Creator and it has got no such problem as yours.
Also if you want to stay with Qt creator, check Projects -> Build & Run -> Run Settings. There is Enable QML setting which mine is disabled. Maybe you can disable it from there.
If not I advice you to check Tools -> Options -> Build & Run and Tools -> Options -> Debuggers. If it can be solved within Qt Creator it must be solved from these places.
I'm trying to work on an open-source project in Qt Creator on OSX. When I open the CMakeLists.txt like other CMake projects in Qt Creator it doesn't open the project. No folders, source files, not even the CMakeList.txt shows up in Qt Creator, just a completely blank project.
What could cause a project to do this?
Edit: the project opens properly in Ubuntu. It shows the CMakeLists.txt, source files, and everything. It even builds properly when I CMake in the command line on OSX. Qt Creator in OSX just does not open this project properly.
Eit 2: My build settings are completely empty too. There are no General Messages or messages of any kind.
Open your Preferences (Cmd+, on Mac) and go to the Build & Run and then CMake tab, do you see any CMake version listed there? For me, I have to add a manual entry because it doesn't automatically find my CMake. My manual entry is set to /Applications/CMake.app/Contents/bin/cmake so compare that with what you have in your settings.
Then restart Qt Creator and reopen your project. Go to Build & Run again and make sure the Kit you have selected for your project has a CMake Tool set (should be automatic if you have just the one CMake entry listed on the CMake tab).
Background Information
It looks like you are using Qt Creator 4.0. With that version, they changed a number of things related to how CMake projects are handled. When you first open a project, it won't create the build directory if it doesn't exist. Instead, it will run CMake in a temporary directory. This would be shown in the General Messages output pane if you had it open. Once you manually create the output directory as it appears in your project's Build Settings, Qt Creator will switch to running CMake in there instead. There's no indication this is happening apart from what is logged in the General Messages output pane, even if there's a problem with your CMakeLists.txt.
In your case, if there's genuinely nothing appearing in your General Messages output pane and CMake is working fine from the command line, that suggests something may be wrong with your Qt Creator settings.
I have wrote a Qt Quick Desktop application in c++ qnd Qt Creator(QML) on Windows7. Now I have to deploy it.
I'm using Qt Quick Desktop Components plugin in my application, I've installed it according to these instructions, and I'm using it with:"import Qt.labs.components", as written there.
I tried adding to the .pro file:
QML_IMPORT_PATH = C:\QtSDK\Desktop\Qt\4.7.4\mingw\imports\Qt\labs\components
but I saw it's working well without it, and I removed it.
I've read a guide how to deploy such an application here, and followed it; I have now a deployment folder, with: the .exe file, the needed dll's, and a folder hierarchy like:Qt/labs/components.
in components I put the styleplugin.dll(for desktop components), and a qmldir file, with the content: plugin styleplugin, excactly like in the doc.
but when I'm runnig my application.exe from the deployment folder in another computer, I'm getting a white, empty window, means: It didn't find the .dll file.
Should you explain me please what's wrong?
I know two reasons, when app can not load plugin dll:
Some of dependecies of the plugin dll are missing or can not be found and that is why it can not be loaded. Qt Creator or Visual Studio environment can be different than the system one. For example, your IDE can modify PATH environment variable. Check plugin's dependencies availability with Microsoft Dependency Walker tool in the same environment where you launch your app.
App can not find plugin in standard directories. To check this you should specify plugin import directory explicitly:
QDeclarativeView *rootView = new QDeclarativeView()
rootView->engine()->addImportPath(QLatin1String("path/to/your/imports"));
I'm getting started with Qt and have encountered the following issue: when i compile and run my application from within QtCreator it runs all right, but when i go to the debug folder and double click .exe file to launch the app a message box pops up and it says
This application has failed to start because QtDeclaratived4.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem
Please notice - it is QtDeclaratived4.dll with letter d before 4, not QtDeclarative4.dll.
After searching in Google i found an advice to find the needed dll and put it inside project folder. But unfortunately such .dll is missing on my computer. I found QtDeclarative4.dll and tried putting it inside project folder but it didn't help. Can you propose me any other solution?
The d in the name indicates the debug version of Qt, which means that you compiled your application using the debug build.
You probably have this DLL on your computer and Qt Creator knows where it is, that's why it is able to run your application. However, you don't have the path to this library configured in your PATH environment variable, that's you are not able to executable your application manually (i.e. outside Qt Creator).
To fix this issue, you have 2 choices:
Compile your application selecting the release build;
Or add the full path to QtDeclaratived4.dll to the PATH environment variable.
QtDeclarative4.dll can be found in C:\[QT_INSTALL_DIR]\bin
You should definitely have this if you used the standard Windows installer that Qt distrubutes.
I am developing an app using the Qt Nokia SDK.
I have googled and searched forums, but I can't seem to find anything about how to set application version.
I'm wrapping the sis file using the Nokia smart installer, so I would also like the information to pop up when I'm using the smart installer.
I guess I have to edit the .pro file, but I don't know what to insert to be able to set the application version, application name, etc.
By default a display name for your application is derived from the TARGET variable value in your .pro file. This display name is used e.g. in menu grid and SIS installation package. To change it, use the DEPLOYMENT.display_name .pro file variable:
DEPLOYMENT.display_name = My Great Qt App
If memory serves me well, the installataion package version number is derived from the VERSION variable:
VERSION = 1.2.3
