I chose a single page as home page in my WordPress blog setting, but I want my posts to be visible as well. Is there a url (or any other way) to access the posts list (like the homepage in normal WordPress blogs)?
In order to do so, you can use recent posts widget plugin.
This demo can help you out (Seek video to 1:00).
Yes there is.
first add new page to your website.
then go to setting>reading and select that page in post page field
I want to make changes to live WordPress websites like posts and pages.I used the woocommerce plugin on my website for purchasing products. How can I make website changes without affecting the customers? How can I know the changes in backend SQL file if I make the changes?
To edit a post that already exists on your site, go to Posts > All Posts in your WordPress dashboard. Click on the title of the post you want to edit in the list provided. If your list spans several pages, you can click through each page or enter your post’s title in the search box.
If you’re changing the post content, click on the post’s title to view the edit page. Make your changes to the post as needed. Once you’re finished, click the Update button to save your edited post.
The same goes with the page editing.
This will not effect to your Order or Products
It can be done basically in two ways:
1) Keep the website in maintenance mode and make the changes accordingly. There are many plugins out there. Ex. Wp Maintenance mode
2) You can update the website, it being live directly for ex. by editing the product details directly or you can edit any data whatever you wish to change.
After making the changes you will see the update changes going live. You don't need to goto mysql shell for this.
Hope this might help.
I just wondering whether http://www.shoutmeloud.com/videos is a subdomain under subdirectory?
I am just curious to know how we can do that.
I have a website called http://quantumbuddy.com/ and I want to share spirtual video the same way here shoutmeloud did.
Can anyone let me know how they did?
The website Shoutmeloud is a very popular website of a very popular Indian blogger Harsh Agarwal. The website is WordPress built as told by him many times. Regarding your question - the http://www.shoutmeloud.com/videos is not a directory because if it had been a WordPress directly there would be a login url - http://www.shoutmeloud.com/videos/wp-login.php, but it is not there.
Seeing the design of http://www.shoutmeloud.com/videos i think it is a post category (videos) which shows the post contained in it(here videos).
In wordpress this comes by default, all you have to do is to create a post category and add post in it. Then in these post add youtube videos embed code.
You can easily achieve that by going to your wordpress dashboard then add a new page and name it like videos then insert some video files there whether it's a link or from your uploaded videos then save it.
To check the page, Add it to your main menu for example then save it.
The url would be like http://quantumbuddy.com/videos.
so basically the videos is the name of the page.
I checked your site and it only contain one link in the menu. Add a page and add it to your menu bar and it would display next to the Blog link.
The website you are referring to is using Genesis Theme. You can find it here
.
Ok, here is the thing I have already added the categories to the pages (with the help of a plug-in, it's called Add category to pages) and so now I want to change the URL to display the categories (that is to say I want my pages to have this estructure: mysite.com/%categories%/%page_name% right now it has his structure: mysite.com/%page_name%), I have tried to google it but I can't find a straight answer. So if anyone has some resources (tutorials, articles) or some idea (if it's not to much to ask with code examples) on how to achieve this it would be fantastic. (And believe me, I'm asking as my last resource)
you can do it easily with "Page Parent" option available in WordPress.
Steps To create a subpage
Go to Administration > Pages > Add New screen.
In the right menu, click the “Page Parent/No Parent” drop-down/page attribute widget. The drop-down menu contains a list of all the Pages already created for your website.
Select the appropriate parent page from the drop-down menu to make the current Page a child Page.
Add content to the subpage.
Click Publish when ready.
Output - https://example.com/asia/india/
More Info. - Wordpress Subpage Permalink
well you can do this for categories and products from permalink setting, but if you want to manipulate the page url according to yourself then you need to create an blank page with the prescribed name whichever you want to insert, i.e, if you want to insert amazon within the url then create an url with name of amazon, and put the other url's under this parent page.
This way your url will look like
http://example.com/amazon/page_name
Unable to post as comment so directly posting it in an answer, in WordPress you can have custom URL. After you logged I'm as admin under dashboard you have general settings where you can put custom URL's like http://example.com/%caregory%/page_name

I don't know if you tried this but after you login as admin, under Dashboard>>Settings>>Permalinks>>Custom Structure.
Let me know if you have already tried that.
I chose Wordpress for my last project but I have a question. I'll use Pages so the client is able to change the content himself. For the moment there are no Post or blog in it. Is it possible to run Wordpess without a blog? It'll be a blog in a future but not now. Thanks.
Absolutely you can have a WordPress site without a blog. You just need to do a couple of things in the admin.
First you need to create 2 pages: a static 'home' page, and a 'blog index' page. The home page is what will be displayed when a visitor comes to the site. The blog index page is just a blank page, with a title you can remember.
Next, in Settings > Reading, select Front page displays a 'static page', then set 'Front page:' to the home page you made, and 'Posts page:' to the blog index page you made.
Yes, for sure you can do this.
Just do the following:
In your admin backend click on Settings -> Reading and set "A Static Page"
Go to Appearance and build a custom menu and add there your pages to a active menu.
Disable all widgets which link to posts.
In fact you need only the first step, but with the second you allow users to navigate on your site. To make the UX better, just add a plugin like Map Categories to Pages to add a category widget or something in this way, to let people browse your site more nicely.
