Unable to get current click value through Adobe Launch - adobe

I created a click event in adobe launch which will capture the value of the link and send it to analytics. I have created a data element for saving the value and in my DOM I am saving value in local storage.
Local storage code:

I'm scratching my head a little bit about why your jQuery selector doesn't match your Rule selector, but that's probably not immediately related or relevant, considering you said you are seeing data pop, in general, so at face value, I'm going to ignore that.
But in general, it sounds like your jQuery code is getting executed after the Rule is evaluated, so it's effectively one step behind. I'm not sure there's much if anything you can do about that if you aim to keep two separate click event listeners like this.
You're going to have to restructure to have one chain off the other (which I don't think is actually feasible with jQuery > Launch as-is. Maybe if you write two separate custom code blocks with promise chaining but that kind of sidesteps Launch and IMO is over-complicating things to begin with (see below)). Better yet, merge them into a single click event listener. On that note..
Why do you have two separate click event listeners? Is the sole reason for this to pass off the link text? Because you can reference the clicked element in the Launch Rule itself.
You should be able to reference %this.innerText% in the Set Variables fields. Or you can reference this object in custom code boxes within the Rule.
IOW at face value I don't see why you need or should be creating/using that jQuery listener or pushing to local storage like that.

Okay so your link values are generated runtime through an API call? Well okay now that sounds like where the (timing) issue is, and it's the same issue in principle I mentioned you prolly had between the jQuery and Launch code. Assuming you can't change this dynamic link functionality, you have two options:
1. Explicitly trigger a launch rule (direct call rule) in a callback from the API code that's generating the link values.
This is the better method, because you won't have race condition issues with your API vs. link tracking code. The biggest caveat about this method though is that it requires requires you to actively add code to the site, which may or may not be feasible for you.
I have no idea what your code for generating the link looks like, but presumably it's some ajax call and generated from the success callback. So in the callback, you'd add a line of code something like this:

Again, I don't know what your API code that generates the link looks like, but presumably you have within it some element object you append to or update the DOM, so for this example, I will refer to that as elem.
'product_image_click' - This is the value you use for the direct call rule identifier in the interface, e.g. :
And then _satellite.track() call also includes an object payload in 2nd argument that you can pass to the direct call rule. So in the code above, I set a property named text and give it a value of elem.innerText.
Then, within the direct call rule, where you set variables, the data you passed can be referenced from event.details object within custom code box (e.g. event.details.text), or using % syntax within the interface fields (e.g. %event.details.text%).
2. Make use of setTimeout to delay evaluating the link click.
The one advantage of this method over option #1 is that it is passive. You don't have to add code directly to your site to make it work.
However, this is the shadier option, because you don't really know how long it will take for your link to be generated. But generally speaking, if you can determine it takes on average say 250ms for the link generation API to do its thing, and you set the timeout to be called at say 300-500ms, then you will probably be okay most of the time. However, it's never a 100% guarantee.
In addition, if clicking on the link ultimately redirects the visitor to another page, then this solution will likely not work for you at all, since the browser will almost certainly have navigated before this has a chance to execute. Because of this, I normally I wouldn't even mention this as an option, but since you mentioned this link involves an API that generates the link values when clicked, I figured maybe this isn't a navigation / redirect link, so maybe this is an option you can go for, if you can't do option #1.
First, create a direct call rule the same as shown in option #1. This will be the rule that receives the link text and makes the Adobe Analytics (or whatever other marketing tag) calls.
Then, create a separate rule as a click event, similar to what you are currently trying to do (listening for the link click, based on your css selector). In this rule, you won't be setting any AA variables. Instead, add a custom js box with code like this:

So when the rule is triggered, it will create a setTimeout callback to call the first rule, passing the link text in the payload. And.. hopefully the 500ms timeout shown in the code example is enough time for the API to do its thing. You may be able to adjust it up or down.

Rather than defining it in Data Element I would say its better to keep it directly in the Rule itself. Please try with this %this.#text%.

Google Tag Manager - collect data attributes without using the datalayer

I'm trying to collect the value of data attributes when clicking on the element containing it but I would like to do it without using the datalayer.
I'm currently using the datalayer by pushing the data attribute into the datalayer with javascript, everything works but it's annoying to always modify the code, I'd like to do the same without using javascript.
My code looks like this:

In Google Tag Manager, I have created an "automatic event variable" (not sure it is called like this in English, my GTM is in French) using the name "Generic_Dataset_product" where I select "element attribute" and as an attribute, I have tried multiple things without success like data-product, gtm.data-product, product, ...
To use this variable I have created a simple trigger that detects clicks on class "link_class" and associated an event (event_category, event_action, event_label) where I add the collected variables with the right name {{Generic_Dataset_product}}. Instead of seeing the expected value, I see "track_event".
Is there a way to collect data this way? I want to use the "automatic event variables" to collect content from src, data attributes, and other elements in the code as there are no predefined variables for this in GTM.

Getting arbitrary attributes of clicked elements in GTM is a trivial task. And there are many ways of doing it. I prefer CJS cuz I often need to do mutations and sanitizing there. Your problem is that you're not debugging it properly.
First, make a trivial CJS variable like so:

Now open your preview debugger and actually go inspect all variables GTM sets on your click. Including your new CJS var as well as your auto-event vars. If you don't find what you're looking for from there, come back here and show us screenshots from the actual debugger and let's debug from there.

There is no reason to avoid the datalayer. The datalayer already contains the clicked element, and the data attributes are properties of that element, so you can address them via dot notation like this:
This saves you custom javascript (which is something you might want to avoid if you ever plan to implement a proper content security policy, since custom scripts require the use of eval).

Adobe Scene7 BasicZoomViewer: How to reset zoom

Question
I'm working with Adobe Scene7 BasicZoomViewer and I'm looking for a way to tell the ZoomViewer to reset the zoom so that the user is no longer zoomed in on an image but instead will show the default "zoom" level.
What I've found
The closest thing I found to what I need is this reset property ZoomView.reset which "Resets the viewport when the frame (image) changes. If set to 0 it preserves the current viewport with the best possible fit while preserving the aspect ratio of the newly set image".
This looks close to something I need but it states that it will reset or preserve the aspect ratio when a new image has been inserted but I am not inserting new images.

There is a button on the image that the API inserts into the page that resets the zoom level. Adobe provides a demo page that shows what I'm working with. If you look at the bottom left, the right-most button is the reset button. When clicked, it has to make some kind of API call and I need to figure out which one it is.

I've been able to find a minified version of the BasicZoomViewer and I am currently attempting to make sense of the code.
There is an event listener placed on the "Zoom Reset Button" that just simply calls a reset() method on line 274 in the uglified version of the file. Currently, I am trying to make sense of the file and figure out how to access this method.

Create a variable to hold the instance of your s7viewers.BasicZoomViewer() and inside of that you can access the event handlers and much more.

Explanation
After digging through the minified code that was uglified I found an event listener on the s7zoomresetbutton DOM class name, or perhaps it's watching for the ID of that DOM element which is the same ID as the container div for your S7 BasicZoom Viewer plus some added text to make this ID unique. For example, if the container div is s7viewer then the reset zoom button will have an ID of s7viewer_zoomresetbutton.
Now, going through the code I found this event listener which let me know there must be some way to call the zoomReset() method.

In the code above, the value of c is this or in other words it's the instance of your S7 BasicViewerZoom and in my case I have multiple depending on how many images I need to zoom on.
When instantiating the s7viewers class you can then reference that instance later and access the event handlers on each button and other properties and methods.
From there it was just looking through the object returned from the instance and calling the handler for the reset button.

Print Friendly Page

So I would like to be able to have a print button for entries in our database so users can print an entry via a print friendly "form".
My thought was to create a separate page, add labels and have those labels pull the relevant information.
I know I can add the open widget information via this code:

I can't get the page to open in a new window. Is this possible?

I can't get the print option (either onClick or onDataLoad) to print JUST the image (or widget). I run
window.print();
And it includes headers + scroll bars. Do I need to be running a client side script instead?

To get exactly what you'd want you'd have to do a lot of work.
Here is my suggested, simpler answer:
Don't open up a new tab. If you use showPage like you mention, and provide a "back" button on the page to go back to where you were, you'll get pretty much everything you need. If you don't want the back to show up when you print, then you can setVisibility(false) on the button before you print, then print, then setVisibility(true).
I'll give a quick summary of how you could do this with a new tab, but it's pretty involved so I can't go into details without trying it myself. The basic idea, is you want to open the page with a full URL, just like a user was navigating to it.
You can use #TestPrint to indicate which page you want to load. You also need the URL of your application, which as far as I can remember is only available in a server-side script using the Apps Script method: ScriptApp.getService().getUrl(). On top of this, you'll probably need to pass in the key so that your page knows what data to load.
So given this, you need to assemble a url by calling a server script, then appending the key property to it. In the end you want a url something like:
https://www.script.google.com/yourappaddress#TestPage?key=keyOfYourModel.
Then on TestPage you need to read the key, and load data for that key. (You can read the key using google.script.url).
Alternatively, I think there are some tricks you can play by opening a blank window and then writing directly to its DOM, but I've never tried that, and since Apps Script runs inside an iframe I'm not sure if it's possible. If I get a chance I'll play with it and update this answer, but for your own reference you could look here: create html page and print to new tab in javascript
I'm imagining something like that, except that your page an write it's html content. Something like:

So here is what I ended up doing. It isn't elegant, but it works.
I added a Print Button to a Page Fragment that pops up when a user edits a database entry.
Database Edit Button code:

That Print Button goes to a different (full) Page and closes the Fragment.

I made sure to make the new Print Page was small enough so that Chrome fits it properly into a 8.5 x 11" page (728x975).
I then created a Panel that fills the page and populated the page with Labels
#datasource.item.FieldName
I then put the following into the onDataLoad for the Panel
window.print();
So now when the user presses the Print Button in the Fragment they are taken to this new page and after the data loads they automatically get a print dialog.
The only downside is that after printing the user has to use a back button I added to return to the database page.

As far as I know, you cannot combine window.open with app.pages.*, because
window.open would require url parameter at least, while app.pages.* is essentially an internal routing mechanism provided by App Maker, and it returns page object back, suitable for for switching between pages, or opening dialogs.

You would probably need to style your page first, so like it includes things you would like to have printed out. To do so please use #media print

In this example, PageFragment1 is a page fragment on the current page, hidden by adding a style with namehidden with definition .hidden{display:none;} (this is different than visible which in App Maker seems to remove the item from the DOM). Works perfectly...
2. You cannot open pages from the app in another tab. In principle something like this would do it:

But since the app is running in frame nested two deep from the launching page, and with a different origin, you will not be able to access the url that you need (the above code results in a cross origin frame access error). So you would have to hard code the URL, which changes at deployment, so it gets ugly very fast. Not that you want to anyway, the load time of an app should discourage you from wanting to do that anyway.

ASP.NET 3.5 - Making a field readonly/unmodifiable without "disabling" it

I have a web application with a form that has disabled fields in it. It allows a "Save As" function which basically means the settings can be copied into a new configuration (without being modified) and in the new configuration they can be changed to something else. The problem I am running into with this is that since the fields are disabled, they are not getting posted through and do not appear in the context object on the server side.
When I removed the logic to disable the fields, that part works fine. So the remaining problem is, how to "disable" the fields (not allow any change of the data in any of the entry fields) without really "disabling" them (so that the data gets posted through when saving)?
I was originally looking for a way to do this in CSS but not sure if it exists. The best solution is of course, the simplest one. Thanks in advance!
(Note: by 'disabled' I mean "The textboxes display but none of the text inside of them can be modified at all". It does not matter to me whether the cursor appears when you click inside it, though if I had a preference it would be no cursor...)

readonly attribute is what you want.
i would suggest that instead of using the non-updateable field values from the page's inputs, you retrieve the original object from the DB and copy them from there. It's pretty trivial using something like Firebug to modify the contents of the page whose form will be posted back to modify the values, even if they are marked as readonly. Since you really want the values from the original, I would simply reget the object and copy them. Then you don't need to worry about whether the original (and non-updateable) properties get posted back at all.

JavaScript puzzle to solve : window.confirm = divConfirm(strMessage)

Scenario is : old site which has lots of JS code already written. If user want to change all the alert messages to new age jazzy Div based alert which are very common using JQuery, YUI, Prototype... etc.

1. alert
To changes this its simple we just have to write new function which will show the div popup and show the message, after that override the window.alert

We can still implement the confirm but in that case we have to bind methods for OK and CANCEL case which will be attached to OK and CANCEL button. With this function signature will be like.

That's correct. It's not possible to reproduce the synchronous nature of the alert/confirm/prompt functions in native JavaScript. There is the non-standard method showModalDialog which can do it using a separate pop-up document, but it's not supported by all browsers and it's generally considered highly undesirable.
So the plug-in-replacement strategy isn't going to work. You are going to have to change every place you called these methods in the rest of the script.
The usual pattern is to do it using inline anonymous functions, to preserve the local variables using a closure, eg. replace:

If you need this to be preserved you would need to look at a further nested closure or function.bind to do it. If you have your call to confirm in a loop things get considerably more difficult.
Obviously you also have to ensure that critical global state doesn't change whilst the confirm box is up. Usually this risk is minimised by greying out the rest of the page with an overlay to stop clicks getting through. However if you have timeouts they can still fire.
All 3 methods actually stop js execution, not just the confirm, because they're all modal dialogs. Personally, I would try to keep everything as asynchronous as possible as modal dialogs prevent interaction with the current document.
Your best bet is to use callback functions from the new confirm popup as you suggested yourself.
I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what you want to achieve. It sounds like you want to do something like the following:
Run some javascript code
Display a "confirm" box
Wait until the ok button or cancel button is clicked
Continue code when user clicks ok, return when user clicks cancel.
The reason you want to do this is that overriding the function with something that makes use of callbacks would require rewriting each section of code that uses the confirm function. If you want my advice, I would go ahead and rewrite the code so that it performs asynchronously. There's no way you can delay script execution without locking up the document which includes the OK and Cancel actions of your dialog.

Overriding these functions, the code continues its execution.
To achieve this you have to modify each part of the code and work as if you were with asynchronous functions.
Then you can use any plugin for windows as sexy-alert-box, and overwrite Alert / Prompt / Confirm
