Test WebAPI on localhost but note resolving the address - asp.net

I'm currently testing a solution with on oneside a ASP.Net WebAPI and on the other hand a Xamarin application.
Both are running on my machine for testing ...
I have an issue to have both working together on resolving the name of my machine (localhost)
The Web API is working fine. On the following address : http://localhost:50783/api/values/2
But if I use:
http://127.0.0.1:50783/api/values/2
It does not work.
I'm surprise about this. Thought this was the standard IP for the localhost.
My hosts file is the following
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

You can change your web-api's bindings.
In Visual Studio → right click on your Project → Properties → choose Web → change the project URL to 127.0.0.1 (leave the port as is) → click on Create Virtual Directory and save the project.

Try uncommenting
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
in the hosts file by removing the # from the beginning of that.

Openstack: hostname is appended by "novalocal"

I have made a heat template that starts up some servers and installs puppet. In the heat template I have put for the servers their hostname by doing:
properties:
name: dir
Some servers actually gets their hostname, but there are a few that gets their hostname appended by ".novalocal".
An example for a server I have
properties:
name: server1
actual hostname: server1.novalocal
Any idea what cause this? I am at a total loss.
Reference:
Neutron Network DNS Suffix via DHCP
Nova appends the default domain name .novalocal to the hostname. This can be resolved by setting dhcp_domain to an empty string in nova.conf on the Control node.
# This option allows you to specify the domain for the DHCP server.
#
# Possible values:
#
# * Any string that is a valid domain name.
#
#dhcp_domain = novalocal
dhcp_domain =
FYI, As #Дмитрий Работягов mentioned, this option has been moved to [api] section, here is the change 480616 on Openstack Code-Review system.

IIS probleme : 404 NOT FOUND

I can't run my .NET applications on IIS , it always says : 404 not found
when I tried localhost it works but the default web site can't work and even any application under it doesn't work and an error message appear says that this file not found in the server. I can't understand the problem
[here the error message when i try to open any of my applications][1]
here the list of all my applications under the default web site
here how it works when I tape localhost or my IP #
Open the hosts file in the below location "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc"
at this file, there is an enter for the localhost
127.0.0.1 localhost
add another line for the server, example the adress of the server is 192.168.2.3, add a new line for the server
192.168.2.3 Myserver name
This file represent a reference for the server to find a corresponding IP Address and Server name.
It seems that the server can not resolve the IP address based on a name. A configration of the Hosts file is necessary. In this file, there is a default configuration for localhost.
try to add a line for the server name and IP address.
The Hosts file is in the following location.

Openstack All-In-One Single Machine Networking

I'm having a hard time configuring an Openstack environment based on the All-In-One Single Machine installer for bridged networking in my LAN.
My objective is to SSH into the instances created in Openstack from my LAN.
The server is an Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with minimal installation and OpenSSH. The network configuration of the server is:
auto enp3s0
iface enp3s0 inet static
address 10.4.4.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 10.4.4.254
broadcast 10.4.4.255
network 10.4.4.0
dns-nameservers 10.4.1.12 10.4.1.10
Basically my network details are the following:
LAN 10.4.4.0
MASK 255.255.255.0
Gateway/DHCP Server 10.4.4.254
The local.conf file I've used for deploying the devstack is the following:
# Sample ``local.conf`` for user-configurable variables in ``stack.sh``
# NOTE: Copy this file to the root DevStack directory for it to work properly.
# ``local.conf`` is a user-maintained settings file that is sourced from ``stackrc``.
# This gives it the ability to override any variables set in ``stackrc``.
# Also, most of the settings in ``stack.sh`` are written to only be set if no
# value has already been set; this lets ``local.conf`` effectively override the
# default values.
# This is a collection of some of the settings we have found to be useful
# in our DevStack development environments. Additional settings are described
# in https://docs.openstack.org/devstack/latest/configuration.html#local-conf
# These should be considered as samples and are unsupported DevStack code.
# The ``localrc`` section replaces the old ``localrc`` configuration file.
# Note that if ``localrc`` is present it will be used in favor of this section.
[[local|localrc]]
# Minimal Contents
# ----------------
# While ``stack.sh`` is happy to run without ``localrc``, devlife is better when
# there are a few minimal variables set:
# If the ``*_PASSWORD`` variables are not set here you will be prompted to enter
# values for them by ``stack.sh``and they will be added to ``local.conf``.

SWIFT_DATA_DIR=$DEST/data
At the end of the deployment I'm able to ping from the instance to my LAN and do nslookup on google.com for example, but I can't do it backwards, ping/ssh/telnet the instance in Openstack.
The security group permits all traffic, all ICMP ingress/egress, SSH from everywhere.
I've tried to telnet on my local computer from the Openstack instance and it's showing the IP of the Openstack host, not the host. So I'm missing something in the network topology.
netstat -ant | grep 1716
tcp6 0 0 :::1716 :::* LISTEN
tcp6 0 0 10.4.3.34:1716 10.4.4.1:42992 ESTABLISHED
Is there any type of network deployment I'm missing?
Any advice would be much appreciated!
If you are trying to access your instances from the "outside", you will need to create a floating IP pool and assign a floating IP to one of your instances.

Xampp local Drupal install image path problems

I've got Drupal 6.19 installed locally in a xampp SUBDIRECTORY. Everything works great with the exception of the images are broken. The path being created is missing my subdirectory where Drupal is installed.
The path should start with:
http://localhost/drupal6.19/sites/default/files/
but is instead
http://localhost/sites/default/files.
I've tried setting base url in the setting php file and clearing my cache:
$base_url = 'http://localhost/drupal6.19';
did not work. I've also tried uncommenting this line in the htaccess file and clearing cache:
# RewriteBase /drupal6.19
nothing.
I'm running out of ideas. Any help?
I won't do a clean install as I've already spent a lot of time migrating content over and configuring the site. I need to get this fixed somehow...
Have you changes something in the hosts file. Its located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. The content of the file look like

Flex profiler gives "Socket timeout " error. Why for?

When trying to run the Flex Builder 3 profiler on any I don't get the profiler dialog window and then after a few seconds I get "Socket timeout" in the console window. Any ideas why it can't connect?
I've got the latest debug version of Flash player and have tried shutting off my firewall.
I'm running it on XP from the local drive, ie. not through localhost.
Thanks,
Alex
It looks like the browser (Firefox in my case) has to be shutdown before the profiler is started. Step 1. in the livedocs even says this -- wish I had read it earlier. :)
http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=profiler_3.html
Make sure that your firewall does not block port 9999, you can customize the port number too: Open Preferences->Flex->Profiler->Connections.
Check /etc/hosts (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts), and see if it contains a line:
127.0.0.1 localhost
In my case, it was somehow changed to ::1 localhost, and that's why it stopped working.
Thanks to Ziv for the (poorly formatted) answer.
While I try to run my Flex Profiler I got this error message:
In the flash application I got the following exception:
Error #2044: Unhandled securityError:. text=Error #2048: Security sandbox violation:
file:///C|%2Fwork%2Flabsense%2Fbranches%2Frel%5F1%5F2%5F5%5FEA%2Fsources%2Fui%2F.metadata%2F.plugins%2Fcom.adobe.flash.profiler%2FProfilerAgent.swf?host=localhost&port=9999
cannot load data from localhost:9999.
at ProfilerAgent()[C:\SVN\branches\3.2.0\modules\profiler3\as\ProfilerAgent.as:127]
And in the flex Profiler console (at the eclipse) I got : Socket timeout.
I am run on windows vista,
Flex builder: 3.2
Flash debugger: 10,0,22,87
Things that I have done to resolve this issue:
Switch the connection port of the profiler to 9998 (and back)
Remove and reinstall the flash debugger player.
Install flex builder 3.2 (instead of 3.0)
Delete all the enters in the mm.cfg file
Add enter to the mm.cfg:
PreloadSwf=C:\work\labsense\Sources\ui\.metadata\.plugins\com.adobe.flash.profiler\ProfilerAgent.swf?host=localhost&port=9999
or
PreloadSwf=C:\work\labsense\Sources\ui\.metadata\.plugins\com.adobe.flash.profiler\ProfilerAgent.swf?host=localhost&port=9998
or
PreloadSwf=C:/work/labsense/Sources/ui/.metadata/.plugins/com.adobe.flash.profiler/ProfilerAgent.swf?host=localhost&port=9999
or with spaces:
PreloadSwf=C: \ work \ labsense \ Sources \ ui \ .metadata \ .plugins \ com.adobe.flash.profiler \ ProfilerAgent.swf?host=localhost&port=9999
or
C:\work\labsense\Sources\ui\.metadata\.plugins\com.adobe.flash.profiler\ProfilerAgent.swf?
or add all or some of the enters:
TraceOutputFileName=C:\Users\zivo\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\Logs\flashlog.txt
ErrorReportingEnable=1
MaxWarnings=0
TraceOutputFileEnable=1
ProfilingFileOutputEnable=1
Turn on and off the vista firewall
Add exception for port 9999 in the vista firewall
Try to run the profiler SWF separately
Same result.
Try one last thing:
Because I have expreins problem little bit similar before with the flash debugger, the resolution then was:
Right click on flash player (debugger),
choose “Debugger”,
choose “other machine”
add “127.0.0.1”
click ok
then, it solve the issue (but apparently he connect to the debugger with host 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost (which is a same)
I now add to the mm.cfg file, the follow entry:
PreloadSwf=C:/work/labsense/branches/rel_1_2_5_EA/sources/ui/.metadata/.plugins/com.adobe.flash.profiler/ProfilerAgent.swf?host=127.0.0.1&port=9999
Then, after saving, I run the profiler, and its work!!
And the reasons for all this was:
Some program change the file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts to:
# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
::1 localhost
127.0.0.1 iDBO # LMS GENERATED LINE
This means that localhost is not lead to 127.0.0.1!!!
Fixing is easy:
# ::1 localhost
# 127.0.0.1 iDBO # LMS GENERATED LINE
127.0.0.1 localhost
Instead (remark the problem and fix the problem
After trying all the other suggestions here, this post on Adobe's forum clued me in.
Adobe forum
When the Flash debug player launches, it looks for mm.cfg in %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%. On this particular computer that path is not my home directory on C: but on the file server mapped to I:. So once I created I:\mm.cfg with the contents
PreloadSwf=C:\Users\ehedstrom\Documents\FLEXBU~1\.metadata\.plugins\com.adobe.flash.profiler\ProfilerAgent.swf?host=localhost&port=9999
everything magically started working!
Browser tabs, make sure you have latest debug as you said you did, also make sure that the port is correct, for some reason the port sometimes changes(1001 or 20957) from the default 9999, be sure that your mm.cfg has ProfilingFileOutputEnable=1 and that bittorrent isn't on.
