I'm a Python beginner and recently came across the Atom editor and the package Hydrogen, that implements the Jupyter notebook. I did so after realizing that running the notebook in Chrome consumed way too many resources and also seemed to be a bit slower.
However, the Atom editor and Hydrogen always output prints within a little frame in the code (see image). Unfortunately, it doesn't use the full window width. I also don't see any console/terminal for installing pip libraries.
Is there a way to have the output in a console below the code, just as in Jupyter, and to have a terminal?
this comes most certainly too late, but in case someone else searches for this:
hit control+shift+P / cmd+shift+P and type "toggle output area".

I am using Julia.
I am trying to get some greek characters in Jupyter notebooks.
First I downloaded the latest version of Julia 1.6.2
For the jupyter connection I used anaconda, in julia repl i put ] add IJulia, and then I could chose the Julia kernel in Jupyter.
Then a friend suggested to download vs code (since we got a problem in the working directory with jupyter-anaconda)
In VS code we got no problem with working directories. And to work with notebooks we installed the Jupyter extension. It was working very well, but we got to this problem that we cannot get greek characters.
In Jupyter (anaconda) I could easily put greek characters, like this:
no package needed, nothing, just like that.
However in VSCode I cannot get that, nor "predictive text" or coding suggestions:
Any tips on how to solve this?
Like we are preferring VS Code and we know there's a way to get the greek characters on it, but we don't know how.
Any help is very welcomed.
Thanks in advance.
Check out the docs for the Julia extension in VS code here: https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/languages/julia. Per the comments above, make sure this is installed and you have the Julia kernel selected. You should then see the following:
I successfully set up R in my new Atom editor and can get in-line results using the Hydrogen package. I just noticed, however, that when I run lines to obtain "R Documentation" that would pop up automatically in RStudio, Hydrogen only gives me a check mark in-line result with no associated documentation.
Here is what is going on in my Atom editor when I run ?plot
Here is what happens in RStudio (bottom right pane), which I am hoping I can get in Atom
How can I get this working in Atom?
try hydrogen -> Toggle inspector
I had the same question and actually made a little progress. Perhaps someone more experienced than I can use this to make a package to enable an in-atom help documentation panel for us :)
Anyway you can install the atom package 'script' which will properly output some, but not all, help documents. I have an example of one working & one not working.
Working ?read.csv
Not-working ?geom_bar
here are my console output examples
as you see, there are no output values when using r studio console.
Actually, there are many related issues about this, but no clear solutions. Only a temporal or Adhoc solution like: restart R or using r notebook script.
Anyway, this phenomenon happens just 1 day ago, with the same code, same operations.
At the first time, console works and a few minutes later it doesn't work.
It is so annoying me to restart or run r notebook script...
Is anybody have the same issues as me?
(I cannot give reproducible data, because it works well the other's computer)
Click on the gear icon beside knit and make sure that "chunk output in console" is enabled.
Super basic question here:
I installed the R-box package in Sublime 3 with no problems.
I changed the path to my R.app in the SublimeREPL.sublime-settings in Sublime, although this should not make a differece on Mac.
I checked in Package Control -> R-Box:Select Program. It's set to R.
I'm simply unable to get Sublime to send code to R. Pressing Cmd+Enter does nothing (actually, it starts a new line on Sublime).
I'm running Sublime 3 on Maverics, and R version 3.2.1. But I had the same problems with Sublime 2 and a previous R version. I'm sure I'm missing something simple but I can't find any more information in the installation page.
Open up an R console by pressing Ctrl+Shift+P and typing REPL R (after a few times you’ll be able to just type R and it will come up). You can open up two windows using (Alt+Shift+2) so you can have your R code on the left and your R console on the right.
As for running the code, once you have called the R console, you have three options: To run the current line or your selected lines, press Ctrl+Shift (release) then l. To run just the selected text, press Ctrl+Shift (release) then s. To run the entire file, press Ctrl+Shift (release) then f.
Actually, I got an answer from the R-box developers, that worked perfectly:
Close Sublime Text 3, then reopen it. Then check that at the bottom right of the window it says R Extended.
If not, you need to set the Syntax on the file:
cmd+shift+P
Set Syntax: R Extended
I am having some problems with my clipboard contents when using R. When I run my scripts/commands in tinn-r, very often I would get something that I had ran earlier pasted onto my R Console instead of the command that I have just selected.
To get over this, I would go to my clipboard and delete its content(text/syntax). However, the same text/syntax that I had just deleted would re-appear on my clipboard and would again appear on my R Console when trying to run a different syntax from my tinn-r.
Good luck. Tinn-R seems to be a particularly buggy way of interacting with R. Though it takes some effort to set up, the StatET plugin interface from Eclipse has been working way better for me than Tinn-R ever did.
