AML Studio: Register mutliple gateways on the same server - azure-machine-learning-studio

I am struggling to find a way to register multiple gateways. I have a local instance of my SQL server and have created a gateway to access to it from the AML Studio workspace. It works fine but now I would like to access to the same SQL server instance from another workspace. So the question is: how to register a new gateway without removing the previous one?
I followed this documentation.
Does the following explanation mean that there is no way to do that?
You can create and set up multiple gateways in Studio for each workspace. For example, you may have a gateway that you want to connect to your test data sources during development, and a different gateway for your production data sources. Azure Machine Learning gives you the flexibility to set up multiple gateways depending upon your corporate environment. Currently you can’t share a gateway between workspaces and only one gateway can be installed on a single computer.
It is quite limiting as connecting to the same server from multiple workspaces may be sometimes crucial.

Well, finally I have found a way to bypass this limitation. From this documentation I have found that:
The IR does not need to be on the same machine as the data source. But staying closer to the data source reduces the time for the gateway to connect to the data source. We recommend that you install the IR on a machine that's different from the one that hosts the on-premises data source so that the gateway and data source don't compete for resources.
So the logic is pretty simple. You provide access to your local server to another machine on vpn and install your gateway there. Important: I have set up the firewall rules on the server before, to be able to establish the connection remotely.

Linked Servers in SQL Database Managed Instance

In a SQL Server Managed Instance I have 2 databases (for security reasons both databases have different logins). I need the possibility to allow one database to look into the other one. In a local SQL Server I was able to create a Linked Server to realize this. But this seems not to work using the Managed Instance.
Can someone give some hints how to achieve this?
Managed Instance supports linked servers (unless if they use MSDTC for some distributed writes). Make sure that you add logins for remote server:
EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedsrvlogin #rmtsrvname=N'PEER',#useself=N'False',#locallogin=NULL,
#rmtuser=N'$(linkedServerUsername)', #rmtpassword='$(linkedServerPassword)';
If it still doesn't work put the exact error message. This might be Network security Group blocking the port, VNets that are not peered, etc.

How to make My PC work as Host Server?

I have an ASP.NET web application that has been hosted in IIS local Machine.
My Question is :
Is there any free or paid method that allows browsing this web
application from the internet as Host Server ?
Thanks
The easiest way to to publish it directly onto the internet. You do run the risk of attackers then being able to attach your machine, so you will need to brush up on your security skills. It might be worth looking into one of the free hosting options from AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
To use your local machine as a web server, first, configure it to use a static IP. Its been a while since I've done it on windows, but this looks about right http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address-in-xp-vista-or-windows-7/.
Next you will need to configure port forwarding on your model. You want to send all traffic on port 80 to your machine, using its new fixed IP address. If your using HTTPS as well, configure port 443 to go to your machine. There are too many different modem brands, all of which handle this slightly differently, to consider offering any more help on this. You will need to do some reading up on your particular modem for step-by-step instructions.
If your internet connection is using a fixed IP, then you can stop here.
If not, or if you just want a domain name, then its worth signing up for a dynamic dns service. I use No-ip, its free, it integrates with my modem and I haven't had any problems with it in the last few years. Once this is in place, you will be able to hit your webserver just like a real one. Using something like "http://mypc.no-ip.biz/mydemoapp/
But again, be warned about exposing your machine on the internet. There are nasty people out there who love to hijack other peoples computers.
Update:
This should give you some guidance on port forwarding
http://www.howtogeek.com/66214/how-to-forward-ports-on-your-router/
Try http://www.noip.com I just logged in and it seemed happy. Otherwise, have a click through all the settings in your modem looking for ddns or dynamic DNS. There is usually a drop down of all the providers that it will talk to. And some providers have apps that you run on your PC , which is easier that working with the modem for some. (Or for models that don't support ddns.)

Can't connect to local server

Currently we have a system in place where multiple server backup to a server in house. There are a total of 11 different servers backing up to this one storage server. Without any change(any that we are aware of) one of the servers stopped being able to connect to the storage server. It's weird too because the one that can't connect is actually our DNS server. It can ping the storage server and nslookup returns the appropriate value. However when I tried to browse to the server in windows explore via network I get the following message:
"Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose." - Error Code: 0x800004005 Unspecified error.
If at all possible I would like the solution to not have to restart the server(obviously that's a big request) but we run 24/7 and can't have the DNS server down for the next few weeks.
Thanks in advance!
I am completely guessing here however lets start with this, does it work if you try and connect to the share using IP?
A few things to consider in the mean time? What O.S is it?
-> Is network discovery off?
-> Have any firewalls been accidentally turned on
-> We had a similar sort of problem when the server lost it's trust relationship with AD (required a reboot I am afraid).
Unfortunately this error can relate to a range of problems including network devices, anti-virus, firewalls, shares, user accounts etc etc.

Security groups and UDP on Heroku

Has anyone experienced running multiple collaborating applications on Heroku? For example, an admin application to manage another application; or a stats server observing another application?
On Amazons' EC2 platform you can use security groups to restrict access to servers, creating a virtual network between your application or server instances. Is there any such way to do this on Heroku? If so, can you open UDP as well as TCP connections?
Thanks
Robbie
The comment from #elithrar is correct. To talk between applications you either need to define an API, or used shared resources. For example you can have 2 applications connect to the same database by manually copying and pasting the DATABASE_URL from one app to another. This has the downside that should we need to roll credentials (very rare) your manually copied configuration will break.
The same pattern can be used with any add-ons, such as https://addons.heroku.com/redistogo or https://addons.heroku.com/iron_mq to share a message bus or queue between two applications.

How do I setup remote debugging from scratch for an Asp.Net app

I would like to be able to step through an application deployed to a remote location which as yet has nothing bar version 3.5 of the .Net framework.
What steps do I need to go through to achieve this and how long would you envisage this taking?
How to: Set Up Remote Debugging
Screencast for Visual Studio 2008 - Remote Debugging with MSVSMON.EXE
This is also a good KB showing some troubleshooting scenarios..
If you have unrestricted TCP/IP access to the remote location, this will be very easy (as in, 5 minutes tops to get it to work): see How to: Set Up Remote Debugging and How to: Run the Remote Debugging Monitor for the steps involved.
If your development machine is separated from the remote server by firewalls, routers, etc., things get a bit more difficult. Since remote debugging requires Windows authentication, DCOM and other things that are usually (and quite sensibly) blocked by security policies, you'll most likely require some kind of VPN access to the remote network in order to get things to work.
Setting up a Routing and Remote Access service on the target server is a quick way to get PPTP dial-in access to it, but there are significant security implications to doing this. So, this is most likely the step that will take up most of your time (and, depending on the organization that manages the target network, lots of discussions with their network/security people...).
My advice would be to start testing with remote debugging using a test machine on your local LAN first, and deal with the connectivity issues once you're comfortable with the basics.
