I'm new to all of this and I've been following tutorials the best I can, I wanted to try my hand at web app development but I'm clearly doing something or missing something.
I ran pip install Django in my Atom terminal, it said the installation was successful but threw a warning about my install file not being part of the PATH, even though that file is in fact on PATH but I believe I fixed that issue.
I then tried to follow a Django tutorial which told me to pip install venv, I couldn't get that to function but I did find the virtual environment package on Atom atom-python-virtualenv and installed it.
its there in my drop down package menu but when I click make and enter a name nothing happens.
I have been trying repeatedly to figure out how to activate a virtual environment in my atom terminal since last night and nothing seems to work! I tried the same commands in my windows powershell and they worked perfectly fine, so I went back to Atom and within that powershell tried again and the first couple things worked but I still ended up with an error which I'll copy/paste below;
PS C:\Users\Amelia\Documents\Atom Projects\microblog> cd env:

I have no idea what i'm doing wrong here, the venv files are there in my script file if I look but nothing I do seems to allow them to be activated.
All I want to do is learn how to do this stuff and I can't get it to work. This is the first issue I've run into so far and I'm at a total loss as to how I might fix this.
is venv just completely incompatible with Atom??
I'm running Windows 10 if that helps in anyway.
My friend, first of all you have to select a specific folder for your project in a certain way in your system.
Then create a virtualenv via cmd on that path..
Now I'm activating my virtualenv via cmd
Now I'm inside my Virtualenv, I can log in if Atom is installed on my system
Now in the Atom software, at the bottom left of the screen, press noVirtualenv.
A window opens where your Virtualenv name is displayed, and you can select it by tapping on it.
Now your Virtualenv is ready and you can create or import your own project and get started.
You can activate virtual environments from the command line by typing
mypthon\Scripts\activate
where mypython is the name you gave to your virtual environment. This assumes the Atom extension correctly created the virtual environment.

I'm trying to install flutterfire_cli in my root project, so I typed this command:
FirebaseFirestore firestore = FirebaseFirestore.instance;
so after that, this is the output of my console:
PS C:\Users\PC\Desktop\eventually> dart pub global activate flutterfire_cli
Package flutterfire_cli is currently active at version 0.1.1+2.
Resolving dependencies...
The package flutterfire_cli is already activated at newest available version.
To recompile executables, first run `global deactivate flutterfire_cli`.
Installed executable flutterfire.
Warning: Pub installs executables into C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Pub\Cache\bin, which is not on your path.
You can fix that by adding that directory to your system's "Path" environment variable.
A web search for "configure windows path" will show you how.
Activated flutterfire_cli 0.1.1+2.
To fix the warning I added C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Pub\Cache\bin to my Path in system variables environnement. (but it does not work, I'm still getting the warning)
Next, I'm trying to generate the firebase_options.dart file as the documentation says using this command:
flutterfire configure
But I'm getting an error in the console:
PS C:\Users\PC\Desktop\eventually> flutterfire configure

Could anyone tell me what I am missing, why I am getting this error even if the Firebase CLI already installed on my machine?
Go through this doc very carefully: https://firebase.flutter.dev/docs/cli/
Step 1: Install Firebase CLI
Step 2: Install FlutterFire CLI with this command dart pub global activate flutterfire_cli
While doing this you must notice the following warning
Warning: Pub installs executables into C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Pub\Cache\bin, which is not on your path. You can fix that by adding that directory to your system's "Path" environment variable. A web search for "configure windows path" will show you how.
This means you need to add C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Pub\Cache\bin into your System's environment path.
Step 3: Now flutterfire configure should work.
If still not working play with Firebase commands
For Mac -> Execute this command:
export PATH="$PATH":"$HOME/.pub-cache/bin"
Three 3 steps for getting it work on Windows:
Run this command:
dart pub global activate flutterfire_cli
Type env into Windows search and open Edit the system environment variables --> Environment variables --> System variables( the one on the bottom of the window) --> Double click on Path --> New and enter this:
C:\Users\PutHereYourUsername\AppData\Local\Pub\Cache\bin
flutterfire configure command should work now - close and open again command prompt or other terminal. Sometimes there is a problem with other editors and terminals where flutterfire configure still does not work. In that case open Command Prompt and it works there for sure.
As for me, I have done everything correctly and the command works if I run in the Windows command prompt, but it fails to work if I type the command inside the VS code terminal.
So I just killed the terminal and opened it again, then it works.
Or, you can try restarting your machine.
Even after adding C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Pub\Cache\bin to the path for me flutterfire would not work from the command line, the reason being that it actually instally a flutterfire.bat file.
So I use flutterfire.bat in the command line as of now and that is working.
For Linux/Ubuntu run this command in the terminal,
export PATH="$PATH":"$HOME/.pub-cache/bin"
Which you will also notice in the terminal when you run the command ↓.
dart pub global activate flutterfire_cli
Make sure you are your project directory
run this export PATH="$PATH":"$HOME/.pub-cache/bin"
For Linux/Ubuntu you should do the following:
Open your .bashrc file using the command "sudo nano ~/.bashrc"
Add export PATH="$PATH":"$HOME/.pub-cache/bin" to the end of the file.
Final you can source the file using "source ~/.bashrc"
It should now be able to recognize the file.
for macOS Monterey edit ~/.zprofile instead .zshrc
This was the hack i used to solve mine. I copied and pasted the C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Pub\Cache\bin in my folder search bar to enter the folder, note I could not find any folder called AppData, but when I pasted it on the folder search it did take me to the bin folder.
In the bin folder, you will find a file called flutterfire.bat. Copy and paste the flutterfire.bat file in the root of your project and then run the .\flutterfire configure command. Please do note the dot (.) and forward-slash (\). You need to add it to work.
for mac m1 , add
export PATH="$PATH":"$HOME/.pub-cache/bin" at the top of users/username/.profile , works on (monterey)
For me, even after I installed everything correctly, restarting my IDE(VSCode) did the trick.
Flutter command not found
Here is very easy instructions for adding something to your path on Mac, It solved my issues with Flutter and Flutterfire.
The export PATH="$PATH":"$HOME/.pub-cache/bin" did not work on my Debian machine!
I removed the first line #!/usr/bin/env sh from $HOME/.pub-cache/bin/flutterfire file and the flutterfire command worked properly.
Use command prompt.. not the vsc terminal
if you followed the right answer and still not working, you need to restart your computer
Can't create input/output in Sass. Sass and node seem to be installed fine, when in VS code terminal I try to create my input / output documents I get an error. Running Windows OS.
I also can't seem to change dir, or do many commands that tutorials seem to use in my cmd even when running as administrator. I can't even seem to cd in cmd, so would love some help there.
I have tried running as administrator, tried installing -g gem something or other. I've watched tutorials and crawled through the net for a few hours and am spinning my wheels.
I will try uninstalling / reinstalling asap or will use koala or something similar for now.

I am trying to install the pyperclip module for Python 3.6 on Windows (32 bit). I have looked at various documentations (Python documentation, pypi.python.org and online courses) and they all said the same thing.
1) Install and update pip
I downloaded get-pip.py from python.org and it ran immediately, so pip should be updated.
2) Use the command python -m pip install SomePackage
Okay here is where I'm having issues. Everywhere says to run this in the command line, or doesn't specify a place to run it.
I ran this in the command prompt: python -m pip install pyperclip. But I got the error message "'python' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
If I run it in Python 3.6, it says pip is an invalid syntax. Running it in IDLE gives me the same message.
I have no idea where else to run it. I have the pyperclip module in my python folder. It looks like a really simple problem, but I have been stuck on this for ages!
You need to add the location of the python.exe to your $PATH variable. This depends on your installation location. In my case it is C:\Anaconda3. The default is C:\Python as far as I know.
To edit your path variable you can do the following thing. Go to your Control Panel then search for system. You should see something like: "Edit the system environment variables". Click on this and then click on environment variables in the panel that opened. There you have a list of system variables. You should now look for the Path variable. Now click edit and add the Python path at the end. Make sure that you added a semicolon before adding the path to not mess with your previous configuration.
I'm exploring package building on Windows 7 but have been running into trouble after reaching the Command Prompt stage. The following thread appears to be on the same topic that I'm having trouble with, but the question remains unresolved:
Cannot install R package in Windows 7
The problem: whenever I try an R CMD command in Command Prompt (e.g. I've tried R CMD install pkgName, R cmd install pkgName, Rcmd install pkgName, where pkgName is a place-holder for an actual package that has been R CMD checked on OS X and also posted on CRAN, where I have the unzipped source in the current working directory), I get the following error message:
'R' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
(If I try the Rcmd install pkgName command, then the error starts out as 'Rcmd' is not ....) Note that even if I type in just R in Command Prompt and hit enter, I get the same error, so I'm not even able to bring up R here, though it opens perfectly fine in its stand-alone interface.
I have examined the following guides without success in identifying the trouble:
Karl W Broman's website
Rob J Hyndman's website
Steven Mosher's blog
The most immediate thing that came to mind was that the path variables in Windows were not set right, but this also has not (yet) led to the answer. For example, I have triple-checked the paths to ensure they are correct, including for the R version number, that x64 in the path name is accurate, etc.
I realize this is a complex issue to remotely diagnose, but any advice and suggestions on resolving this trouble is appreciated. For reference, below are the steps I have taken already to try to resolve this issue:
Uninstall R and Rtools
Install the latest version of R (2.15.0)
Install Rtools215 to match R version 2.15.0
Originally I let Rtools specify the path variables (turning that option on during installation). No success after this method.
I updated the path variables on my computer, where the below paths were used:
C:\Rtools\bin; C:\Program Files\R\R-2.15.0\bin\x64;
I've also tried the R CMD (and Rcmd) commands with the following paths included (note that these paths don't lead to anything on my computer, so I tried doing R CMD / Rcmd with and without them specified):
C:\Rtools\perl\bin; C:\Rtools\MinGW\bin;
Tried adding/removing the following path, which goes to the only other folder visible within the Rtools folder:
C:\Rtools\gcc-4.6.3;
Tried multiple variations of the R CMD commands, as noted earlier.
I tried this all a few months ago when I had R version 2.14.1 and Rtools214 installed, and I had the exact same trouble.
Note: I already had Cygwin installed prior to R and Rtools, and I have not installed MikTeX (yet).
Have you closed the command prompt and opened a new one after adjusting the PATH?
Enter the command PATH on the command line and ensure that you are properly updating your path
Try navigating to the directory where R.exe is saved and running it locally -- cd C:\Program...\bin\x64, R.exe.
Ensure that you're running on Windows' Command Prompt and not Cygwin's terminal
If you actually have a space after the semi-colon in your PATH, you'll need to remove that: /bin;C:/Program.... Try combining that with Joshua's solution.
I attach my whole solution here:
Install Rtools which is compatible with my R version
Add PATH: C:\Program Files\R\R-2.15.1\bin\x64;C:\Rtools\bin;C:\Rtools\gcc-4.6.3\bin
In cmd, enter: R CMD INSTALL packagename
Click "enter", done.
I had a lot of trouble getting this to work, and finally found the golden nugget on r-project (R doesn't like spaces in paths) so here's how I finally did all this:
I installed R to "c:\programs" instead of "c:\program files...". My final path to RSCRIPT.exe is "C:\Programs\R\R-2.15.2\bin\Rscript.exe"
I added that directory to my PATH, but that doesn't seem to help
RStudio is also installed under c:\Programs (e.g. c:\Programs\RStudio), but RTools is installed under the "c:\" root directory (e.g. c:\RTools).
I downloaded all the packages to "c:\downloads\r"
I opened a command prompt in "c:\downloads\r" and ran the R CMD install from this downloads directory, specifying the path to R
e.g. "C:\Programs\R\R-2.15.2\bin\x64\R CMD INSTALL colorspace_1.2-0.zip"
It appears that the CMD processor is Case Sensitive. You have to use INSTALL vs. install
Simple solution, use quotes:
c:> "C:\Program Files\WinZip\wzunzip.exe"
if you run this, you don't need to worry about the space in Program Files.
Hope this help.
I encountered a similar problem while trying to use SparkR from Windows Power Shell. Each time I would do ".\sparkR.cmd" (I was inside the folder containing this file), it would throw an error message like,
cmd is not recognized as an internal and external
command...blah...blah...blah.
I solved the problem by adding "C:\Windows\System32" to my PATH.
I restarted my system and then repeated the process and this time, I saw a new error,
R is not recognized as an internal and external
command...blah...blah...blah.
I tried all sorts of approaches, including the ones mentioned above. NOTHING WORKED, I was probably wasn't efficient enough to make it work.
Then I came across this place at code.google. I simply copied the R.bat onto a notepad, named it as R.bat. Kept it inside the folder where sparkR.cmd was located. For me it was,
C:\Apache\spark-1.5.1-bin-hadoop2.6\bin\
The I placed it on my PATH as :
C:\Apache\spark-1.5.1-bin-hadoop2.6\bin\R.bat
Restarted my laptop, opened my Power Shell as an administrator and typed :
.\R.bat help
It worked fine. Then I typed,
.\sparkR.cmd
and there it was.
It worked.
I hope it helps to people new to R. Thank you G. Grothendieck.
In the .bat file add a line of code specifying the path of the folder where R is installed and then give the path of the script as follows -
#ECHO OFF
PATH C:\Program Files\R\R-3.5.1\bin
R CMD BATCH D:\project_abc\helloworld.R
Following this, run the .bat file and you will see the code in the script will run smoothly.
In my case the issue was solved by using Edit instead of New while selecting PATH in the window below:
enter image description here
After selecting Edit I added the directory below:
C:\Program Files\R\R-4.0.2\bin\x64
This solved the issue in my case.
When I create a new project and select to create a new Git repository, or when I try to change the version control system in project options I receive a RStudio error stating "Incorrect function" with a big X and no extra information.
The below link has a similar issue, but their solution of changing the path for git.exe has not helped (i have tried all three paths)
https://support.rstudio.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/200632528-Git-Error-Incorrect-Function
Some extra notes:
RStudio allows me to clone repository to set new working directory
Also git works in bash, so i feel this is an RStudio issue.
I encountered the same error. For me it also had to do with using a network path not a local directory for the project location (as for lewis1211).
Workaround: Map the network drive. E.g. Map your //server/share to some drive, say Z: (using map network drive, if you are using windows). If you set your project up under Z: then, it works.
If you have already chosen "git.exe" in RStudio --> Tools --> Global Options --> Git/SVN, then try to open Rstudio shell and type git init. In my case it showed "Permission denied", and after running as administrator the problem has gone.
This is only a partial answer if it fixes your problem: I reproduced this when trying to use a network path for a project location. When using a local directory no error occurs. Could indeed be an RStudio issue.
Run you R studio as Project administration.
This solves my issue.
SOLVED.
I had the same problem. The Git-RStudio-Connection fails but git is working perfectly in the CMD. When running the git init command in CMD it works and creates a .git folder. But running the git init command in the RStudio terminal fails with a message Warning: unable to access 'C:/Users/%username%/.gitconfig': Permission denied ... fatal: unknown error occured while reading the configuration files.
The Version Control Sytem (VCS) or git-Panel does not appear in RStudio and selecting it in the projects options leads to the same message Error: Unzulässige Function (eng. Error: Incorrect function).
A closer look into the .gitconfig file should give you a new solution approach hopefully without having administration rights. Comparing the installation on the integration worksation with a productive workstation shows, that on the Test-Machine an incomplete .gitconfig file is on C:/Users/%username%/.gitconfig and on the Productive-Machine a complete gitconfig file is on Z:/.gitconfig. By the way, Z is a mapped drive which is linking to the company's user-profile settings (see CMD > echo %HOMEDRIVE%).
According to this analysis there should be multiple possible solution approaches:
(1) delete the corrupt .gitconfig and hope the the system is correctly looking into your profiles directory
(2) complete the .gitconfig file that all necessary information are there. The message fatal: unknown error occured while reading the configuration files could actually be a hint, that the first message access... permission denied is false and the problem lies in the incomplete file.
(3) Be aware that there can be a confusion between ".gitconfig" as FILE and ".gitconfig" as FOLDER. Check this with changing directory with cd to folder and cat to show the file content. It will tell you that you cannot display a folder as file-content.
(4) Change the location of the config file with git config --file FullnameToGitconfig. e.g. git config --file %USERPROFILE%/.gitconfig or git config --file %USERPROFILE%/.gitconfig/gitconfig or git config --file %HOMEDRIVE%/.gitconfig etc.
