I'm using Ubuntu 17.10 and installed nginx, then i'm trying to make the virtual hosts.
My hosts file is this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 test.app
127.0.1.1 Flashy-PC
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
So test.app would redirect to localhost, but it is not working, when i type test.app on address bar it redirect me to this message:
This site can’t be reached test.app refused to connect. Try:
Checking the connection Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
Then, i've tried to enable nginx in the firewall by typing:
sudo ufw allow 'Nginx Full'
sudo service ufw restart
sudo ufw status
But in the status it continues as inactive, i really don't know if the problem is the firewall, im almost new to linux.
Also have created the test.app.conf on sites-available and created a symbolic link on sites-enabled.
EDIT:I have checked this file and was using php5-fpm, but i've installed php7.1-fpm, so i changed the php location to the right location, but im still geting the same error
test.app.conf:

When i run: $ sudo nginx -t
This answer appears:
nginx: [warn] conflicting server name "" on 0.0.0.0:80, ignored
How do i solve this?
example.com and example1.com both are identical, you have to add server_name on the listen 80 of both blocks.
Corrected Server blocks is:
Two: /etc/nginx/sites-available/example.com
server {
listen 80;
server_name .example.com;
return 301 https://example.com$request_uri;
}

New project, new problem ;-) I've developed a simple app dealing with URL paths. I'm using window.location.pathname for that. Everything is working fine locally, but when deployed on an nginx server, I've got the 404 error when trying to access an URL like http://monsite.com/passwordreset. I've tried different config, but no success. So far, my configuration file is:
server {
listen 443;
ssl on;
ssl_certificate /root/ssl/certificate.crt;
ssl_certificate_key /root/ssl/private.key;
server_name aerokomput.com www.aerokomput.com;
access_log /var/log/nginx/aerokomput.com.access.log rt_cache;
error_log /var/log/nginx/aerokomput.com.error.log;
root /var/www/aerokomput.com;
index index.php index.html index.htm;
try_files $uri /index.html;
include common/php.conf;
include common/locations.conf;
include /var/www/aerokomput.com/conf/nginx/*.conf;
}
Any idea to get the URL in the pathname property and make a redirection to the root?
Thanks for your help!
The output of nginx -T is:

worker_rlimit_nofile 100000;

Problem solved thanks to Richard Smith:
The server block for aerokomput.com includes php.conf which sends users to index.php which is presumably not found on this server. Try removing the include.
As the title says, I am getting redirect from the back office of Prestashop 1.7 whenever I try to access one of the subpages. However, I can access some of the pages, but when I try to access the Advanced>Preferences or Modules pages, it redirects me to the main page.
I am running the project through Homestead(Ubuntu) VM from Windows.
My guess is that the issue is with nginx config file. Could someone tell me what am I doing wrong?

You will need to switch to apache instead of nginx and use PHP7.0 to do so use below code in your Homestead.yaml file (remember to change domain and path)
- map: presta.shop
to: /home/vagrant/htdocs/prestashop_1.7.3.3
php: "7.0"
type: apache
after that halt vagrant:
vagrant halt
and reload with provision - will take some time:
vagrant reload --provision
this should help - it does for me
EDIT
In PS version: 1.7.6.7 i was forced to uncoment those two lines in .htaccess located in admin folder:
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} ^$
RewriteRule ^index\.php(/(.*)) %{ENV:BASE}/$2 [R=301,L]
Before that for links like: http://presta17.shop/admin466vvxojo/improve/modules/manage?_token=ZrnM85TEsROusexXinPySyjZQghmfHO7d7sSFI3Tgm4
with /index.php/ i get only: Access denied.

I've certainly miss a point. I do not know which one actually.
thanks for your help,
David.
First thing, you should use IPV6 databases of GeoIP, thay also work for IPV4 addresses.
Secondly, the Nginx GeoIP module is dynamic, so you need to enable it :
sudo ln -sf /usr/share/nginx/modules-available/mod-http-geoip.conf /etc/nginx/modules-enabled/
Last thing, in /etc/nginx/ there are two files, fastcgi_params and fastcgi.conf. If unsure, put the GeoIP variables in both.
I have been trying to install flarum using nginx as my server but when i restart nginx i get multiple problems if anyone could figue out where i went wrong i would really appreciate it
when i run "systemctl restart nginx" this happens
Job for nginx.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status nginx.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.
then when i run "nginx -t -c /etc/nginx/nginx.conf" this happens
nginx: [emerg] duplicate location "/" in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/creativethoughts:14
nginx: configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed
Heres what I have done since i last restarted nginx
Create a new sites-available file then copied it to sites-enables using "sudo ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/creativethoughts /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/"

edited nginx.conf and removed the comment from "server_names_hash_bucket_size 64;"
finally tried to restart and got the error
You are specifying the / location twice.
You've declared the gzip directive multiple times.
You are not closing the server block.
