I was using a view (VW_NEW_CUSTOMERS) in Teradata and all the column names had an underscore in it. The column names in tableau did not contain underscores.
For example:
Customer_Number (From Table View)
Customer Number (From Tableau Column Name)
Now I created a duplicate of the view (VW_NEW_CUSTOMERS_2), all the columns have the underscore in Tableau. So when I use replace data sources, the column name mapping is completely different from the above because of the underscores.
New Tableau fields from duplicated View:
Customer_Number (From Table View)
Customer_Number (From Tableau Column Name)
I would like to know why the underscores did not appear 1st time and it is now appearing when I duplicated the view. How can I rename the fields so that it comes like the 1st time? Should I do them manually now?
Note: Database columns were using aliases
Check this thread, this isn't new, Tableau decided to start renaming fields some time ago. Not sure why it would have done on one of your data sources, but not the other.
Anyway, the exec summary, you may need to reset the field names of the version without the underscore, which should bring the underscore back into your data, making both data sources the same. To do this, copied from the thread:
"Version 9.3 and 10.1, you can select all the measures (and dimensions) in a worksheet, right click and "reset names" in two operations"
I think there's also a way to hack the xml to add the spaces to your copy, should that be preferrable. The thread covers hacking the xml to remove spaces, therefore I assume to add spaces do the same but in reverse.
I have a report which contains 10 columns of stock values.
When a stock value is negative I would like the text in my report to be formatted differently, for example I may wish to format it in Bold & Red.
Is this something I need to do in the fetch method?
At the moment my fetch method is very basic, just using setRecord once to setup a temporary table.
Is it possible and if so how is it done?
Take a look on the tutorial_ColourLines report.
reportSection.foregroundColor(colour);
The report changes the color of a report section, but it can be done to individual report controls as well.
I am using ASP.NET/C#.I am using Report Viewer control to display a basic report.Currently the data is shown properly however the column names are the same as when selected while configuring the Report Wizard.
Example:
cFirstName is displayed as cFirstName in the column header of the Report Viewer.
I would want to change it to First Name instead.
Here is the image of the issue.
Can anyone help me to achieve this?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.
You can set this in the rdl, rdlc file.
This is where it should normally be done.
It cannot be done through c#, unless you take that column name as a report parameter and set the column header using that parameter.
I'm currently working on an ASP.Net WebForms application that allows a user to select an item from a list, which ultimately results in a SSRS report being shown, using Report Viewer 2010 (in server mode). The report has been coded with a parameter #id to allow the report to display the correct data for the selected item.
The reports dataset can return multiple rows where some of the data is displayed in a summary area at the top (not in the header section) for example a textbox would have the expression =FIRST(Fields!Address.Value, "dsMain"). The data returned is denormalized so Address will always be the same value. Which is why using FIRST() works. And the rest of the data is shown in a Tablix with grouping applied etc.
But now I'm looking to change this so users can select multiple items and therefore effectively show the report multiple times, but shown in the same report viewer control. The main requirement is to batch print the reports, so showing it in one report view control is important to allow for one click printing of everything.
Now because I didn't design the report in the first place and because its fairly complex in its layout and the sql that is executed; the sql is geared towards running for one id and not a list of them. I'm looking for options to not have to rewrite the report or the sql.
Is it possible to give the report viewer the id parameter as a list and let the report viewer execute same report for each id passed? - I know report parameter can accept multiple values but this isn't the same since the report will unintelligently pass the first value to my stored procedure but not repeat the report for the other values. Perhaps there's a setting in the report designer that allows it to repeat if it is passed multiple values?
Can someone suggest something else to get this working? Or is my only option to extend the report and sql to accept multiple id's and effectively redesign the report?
Thanks any suggestions or help with this.
The answer is to use sub-reports.
Create a new report that takes a list of ids as a multi valued parameter.
Use that parameter as the dataset for a list control.
Have a subreport inside the list. Report inside the list is your original report.
You can then pass each element of your dataset(your list of parameters) as parameter to the your sub-report.
SSRS will repeat it as your want.
I have a rdl report which contains Legend, chart and rows of records below legend and chart. I got a problem here is I can repeat legent and chard for every type new item but I cannot repeat headers for rows of records. I tried with visibility but did not work. headers are simple as row in the table in rdl report which are required to show date, time, position , like that for every record coming database , any suggestions much appreciated
If you want to repeat header with each row and you are using Visual Studio for designing, it is easy:
Simply click the data row (the one in the middle), right-click it and choose Insert Row Above, in that row you can insert your header text and it will repeat with each row record.
