I have looked through all the different occurrences of this question over the years and nothing in them seems to work. I can't seem to get any CSS entry to change the appearance of the header elements. Can anyone point me in the right direction of how to change these elements appearance?
I have spent hours and can't figure it out.
Some sample CSS that changed the appearance in this demo would be most appreciated. (Buttons, Month/Title) Or an explanation for why that won't work.

Thanks in advance...

I give up. Okay? I give up. I don't want to parade around with showing off code. I have spent three and a half months searching and experimenting CSS codes across the Internet. The only place left to check is the dark web. I don't care what your end game is here. I give up.
Please, just tell me how to get these lines to stop breaking, no matter what the case may be. If you can't, you don't know.
It would be lovely to see your code, but it seems what you want is CSS white-space
Specifically, white-space: nowrap
That should do what it appears you are asking for.
How do I set a specific section of a page (div section?) to be on top of another section? I tried adding a z-index on the CSS file but it's not working. Or maybe I'm adjusting the wrong CSS file. In the end, I am confronted with:
--- which CSS file do I adjust? (I'm using Firebug but now I'm not sure if I'm using it correctly
--- what exact code adjustments do I need to do?
This is a sample page: http://www.criminal-lawyers.com.au/offences/aggravated-assault. The testimonial box to the lower right part of the page gets covered by the brown area when you scroll down. The goal is to put it on top so it's not covered whenever you scroll down (I know I should better position it "absolute" instead, but that's not the goal).
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
Finally had it solved! Many thanks to all your comments below. Although some answers did not exactly solve the problem, there were concepts behind them that really helped.
You need to set z-index:21 on the div with id it_widget_content-11-background-wrapper which is the main container of the sidebar widget. That should solve the issue.
it's pretty simple, to this widget-background-wrapper sidebar-widget-2 add z-index:9999. sorry i would rather comment this, but reputation < 50.
Remove position:fixed on the classes
CSS file - wp-content/themes/Criminal-Lawyers-it/style.css
sidebar-widget-1
and
sidebar-widget-2
They will remain in place.
Just realised it may not be exactly how you want it to look :) However, even with correct z-index, it may look weird having them overlap the footer...
It's quite early and so I'm probably missing something apparent here but I'd like to ask the community for some quick help. When you visit the demo page and hover over the slider, you'll see that the next and previous buttons appear as they should. Though the images have a "fold" effect on the left & right side and I'm trying to figure out why they're not showing.
I've toyed around with the z-index but can't figure it out. May someone please help with what should be a quick fix?
Thanks!
You have set overflow : hidden on your
<div class="pix_diapo diapostarted">
Since your folds are outside of the containing element, it hides it.
Just remove it, and it will work.
I've spent close to two days trying to solve a z-index/stacking problem in IE7 and I've admitted defeat and I'm hoping one of you geniuses can help me out!
If you go to http://learningseat.wpdemo.com.au/discover/#links in IE7 and click on What We Stand For or Where We're Going you will see that the Who We Work With and Who We Are links show on top of my lightbox.
I've tried to solve this issue by moving things around, adding position: relative and z-indexes to different elements but I've had no success with this at all.
I even tried using some of the jQuery tricks for z-index issues with IE but I've had no luck.
I've worked with another developer on this project and the code isn't too pretty but if anyone could help me with this problem I'd be forever grateful!
Thanks for your ideas and help!
In this StackOverflow answer, Tgr gives a pretty good explanation of how z-index is supposed to work and how IE 7 and earlier get it wrong.
What worked for me in my limited tinkering was the solution presented in the last paragraph of that answer. First I removed the IE7-specific z-index values in your stylesheet, then I added a very high z-index value (9999) to the .buttoninfo that was clicked on. In your code, you can add a class when the button is clicked, then remove it when popup is hidden.
Hi I have already read posts which suggest using style="vertical-align: middle;"
however this is not working for me. I am a beginner so I was hoping somebody could take a look. I've been playing around on jsfiddle with it and getting nowhere.
here is my jsfiddle.
It is a dynamic form so to get to the area I am having the issue you must select option 5 "True/false" on the drop down.
as for the html for it, it is located within the javascript in 'case 5'.
Also for some reason on the jsfiddle one label is out of line and I don't know why as it works fine on firefox and chrome :S
please enlighten me, thanks
I eliminated many of the float on labels and inputs, and set width: auto and it improved greatly.
That would affect all inputs though, and I think part of your problem is the large width of just the radio button inputs.
As a broader issue, I would probably have all those question types already in the page in hidden divs, and show the appropriate one when the question type is selected. That makes it easier to work with your CSS by showing them all during dev/debug of the styles then hiding them when you're done.
Not much of an answer, but it's all I've got without really digging into the fiddle a lot.
Try this and play with the margins to get the desirable output.
#stylized label.smaller input{
float:none;
width: 25px;
}
