I am trying to access Web Site Administration Tool > security. When I click on security I got the following error:
There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused
by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient
permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not
being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where
you can choose a new data store.
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Server
cannot access application directory 'C:\Users\Ramisha
Farrukh\Documents\Visual Studio 2015\WebSites\IT Help Desk]\'. The
directory does not exist or is not accessible because of security
settings.

I have been going in circles trying to fix this. This is the error message I receive...

This is typically a permissions problem.
Go to the listed directory on your server. If the directory exists, make sure that the iis user and/or app user have the required permissions to that directory.
I have an application with the main and 2 sub pages. The main page works and one of the sub pages work fine. But the other sub page gives me an error:
Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
When trying to run on my local, i get
An error occurred while accessing the resources required to serve this request. The server may not be configured for access to the requested URL.
These were working fine a week ago and this problem is sudden. help please.
You are facing this issue because the SubPage you are getting error on accessing might be under some security. The error you have described comes on a page which is not accessible to the anonymous user.
You must check the Web.config firstly to see if there is some Location Access permissions defined for that Webpage and ensure that they are correctly defined.

web site configuration
I am working on a asp.net website which is created by someone else.
Some files are exist in root folder and some are exist in one sub folder.
I can access all files from root folder in the browser, however when try to access the pages from sub folder is shows following error
Access is denied.
Description: An error occurred while accessing the resources required to serve this request. The server may not be configured for access to the requested URL.
Error message 401.2.: Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration. Verify that you have permission to view this directory or page based on the credentials you supplied and the authentication methods enabled on the Web server. Contact the Web server's administrator for additional assistance.
I unable to point out the issue. I checked the web.config file, but didnt get anything related to that folder. I know it is difficult to find the exact issue in my case, but I would appreciate if anyone can give me possible reasons or clues so that i can try.
Thanks in Advance.
EDIT
There is a sub folder web.config with the following content
However, even if I login with "administrator" it fails.
I got the issue, actually previously it was Forms authentication which I commented out.
Is there a web.config file in the sub-folder? These can apply local restrictions.
Other questions that it would be good to know the answer to:
What authentication scheme (forms, windows etc) are you using?
What sort of content are you trying to access (static content or aspx)
what version of IIS are you using?
This sounds like an ACL problem to me. More information, as Xhalent asks, would be useful. Does the user that IIS is using have access to all of the files on the file system?
I got a asp.net application hosted by Godaddy. In this app I have a custom profile provider. Sometime, an ASP.Net error message prompt and Say: "Unable to cast object of type 'ProfileCommon' to type 'ProfileCommon'"
The error appear at a random time and vanish when a modification to the web.config file is made (maybe because of the rebuild of the application ?).
On my development computer and my staging server the error did not show up.
Do someone already see this error?
i am trying to enable roles in asp.net but,i am getting few errors and after trying my best i am not able to get them resolved.
I am new to visual studio interface. I tried creating a login page as ASP.NET web application. Then as we have to configure the page to connect to the database to retrieve user details, i clicked on the ASP.NET configuration under Website control.. I was taken to the configuration page with three tabs.. Security was the tab that i was supposed to configure.. But i am not able to go through to the security tab. I get the following error message.
There is a problem with your selected
data store. This can be caused by an
invalid server name or credentials, or
by insufficient permission. It can
also be caused by the role manager
feature not being enabled. Click the
button below to be redirected to a
page where you can choose a new data
store. The following message may help
in diagnosing the problem: Unable to
connect to SQL Server database.
I also clicked on the button to select a new data store, but there was only one default data store available.
i enabled my role manager tag to true, but again i am facing the same problem
Any process to configure the security tab would be helpful.
Use steps below:
Configure your database in order to maintain ASP.NET Application Services. You can see here how to do it
Edit your web.config file. See details here
Go to ASP.NET Configuration Tool under Website control and create required roles.
