Do you know from where can I control Application's version number under Properties dialog?
The ideal would be to retrieve it from Version field in Visual Studio, but I could live without it.

I am trying to simplify some of the start-of-day tasks that me and the other developers must do at my company. In order to get our local dev environments running, we have to go through a series of steps: starting VMs, APIs, and other web servers. My goal is to write a script to automate all of this.
The only part that is giving me difficulty is one step in particular where we must start a gateway API project written in .NET Framework before starting the other microservice APIs written in .NET Core. The .NET Core APIs can easily be started via a script which we already use, but I was hoping to make the .NET Framework project part of this script too, which must come first before the other .NET Core APIs. Currently we open the .NET Framework project in Visual Studio, press Run, then run the script to start the other .NET Core APIs.
Does anyone have any pointers on how I can automate starting the .NET Framework project?
I assume you're using IIS Express for debugging, which means you have to open Visual Studio and start debugging for your website to start.
I suggest you install full IIS (not Express) on your machine. It has the benefits of:

The application will always respond to requests, whether Visual Studio is running or not.
To do this:
In the Start Menu search for and open 'Programs and Features'
Click 'Turn Windows features on or off' on the left
Select 'Internet Information Services' in the list, with all the features you want (pretty much everything under 'World Wide Web Services' and at least 'IIS Management Console' under 'Web Management Tools')
I assume from there you know how to setup the website in IIS Manager. Do it the same as you would on a production server. Just point the site (or virtual folder) to where your code is.
In your Visual Studio project:
Open Project -> [Project Name] Properties...
Click 'Web' on the left
Under 'Servers', select "Local IIS" from the dropdown
Make sure the 'Project Url' matches where you set it up in IIS
There is also a "Create Virtual Folder" button there in Visual Studio that can help you set up the site, if you prefer.
Is there any hidden tool from MS we can use for BizTalk application migration prior to load solution into VS2015 ? I need some information about what are characteristic we may need to change specially BizTalk.btproj solution to load all project file etc., wonder to know easy approach migrating BizTalk application solution if any.
As various blogs posts and MSDN threads you needed to have an intermediate Development BizTalk environment (BizTalk 2010) and then upgrading it to the later version like BizTalk 2013/R2 and up.
You can download the developer edition here and install the SDK so you can open it in Visual Studio.
The only other way to migrate is to create new BizTalk Projects in Visual Studio 2015 / BizTalk 2016 environment, and then copying the artefacts such as Schemas, maps and re-creating any Orchestrations.

When you open a downlevel Solution, Visual Studio will attempt to update any project and provide a report of what was automatically updated and what could not be updated, requiring manual intervention.
You can do this on a copy of you Solution to get a preview of any work necessary for the real upgrade.
Coming from BizTalk Server 2006, you will need an intermediate version to eventually target BizTalk Server 2016. You can download BizTalk Server 2010 from MSDN. All you need to install is the SDK. You don't need to setup/configure full BizTalk Server.
I have installed BizTalk 2013 R2 on Windows Server 2012 R2 and Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate is also installed on the same machine.
I cannot see BizTalk Project template while creating a new project in Visual Studio.
When I ran the BizTalk setup again, Developer Tools box was not selected. When I select the box it gives following message
Features you selected requires the following components to be installed:
WCF HTTP ACTIVATION 4.5, IIS ASP NET 4.5
When I check in the Server Manager, both of the above are already installed.
Kindly help me resolve this issue.

The easiest way to do this would be to run the Visual Studio Command Prompt.
Also make sure to run as an administrator.
To restore the default project templates
In the command prompt, navigate to the location of devenv.exe. This file is located in \Common7\IDE.
Type "devenv /installvstemplates" and press Enter.

If you are using an Express Edition of Visual Studio, type "Express /installvstemplates" where is either VB, VJS, or VCS for Visual Basic, Visual J#, and Visual C#, respectively.
If this procedure does not restore the default templates, reinstall Visual Studio.

I am responsible for supporting a relatively complex Website project written with .NET 3.5.
Previously I was using Web Deployment Project with Visual Studio 2010 to deploy this website but at the moment I have only access to Visual Studio 2013.
As far as I know, there is no longer such a tool to be used for deployment in Visual Studio 2013 and I do want to compile the code before deploying to the production server. As mentioned earlier, the project is a bit complex and this would not be easy to be converted to a Web Application.
Any idea?
Unless I missed it, unsure what the issue is - in VS2013, Publish is what you are looking for (either WebSite or Application).
What exactly do you mean by "none of the (vs 2013 publish) options worked"? What is/was the issue?
In one of your comments, you state you want to "pre-compile" (aka "don't want to upload .cs source files) and that's a setting in Publish.
You can Publish to your local file system: "Custom" -> File System:

Little bit confused with the question because you are keep referring about website rather web application.

Otherwise, if you are referring about the deployment project. Yes, it is no longer available.
I'd a very similar situation like you and Since 2013 I have stopped using any deployment project, instead I have started using Publish that creates a deployment package for you on a Network , FTP, Local Drive or even on Azure.

So brand new installation of .NET Framework 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010 on a brand new computer. Loading up Visual Studio 2010 and selecting New Project only lists the following project typess under "Web":
ASP.NET MVC 3 Web App
AjaxControlExtender
AjaxServerControl
ASP.NET Server Control
All of the other project types are missing and I can't load existing .NET projects (gives me the "project type not supported" error. Any idea what happened or how I can reinstall the missing templates?
I've already tried running devenv.exe /installvstemplates with elevated privileges.
If you didn't install the Visual Web Developer component, the ASP.NET project templates won't be fully installed. Naturally, because the installer then thinks it doesn't need to put them there as ASP.NET is a web development framework.
In that case, just run the installer again and make sure Visual Web Developer is checked. The installer will then add the appropriate project templates.
