I have a .NET Framework 4 site hosted by IIS 7 on a Windows Server 2008 machine. It works well. When I created a new site with IIS 8.5 on Windows Server 2012 machine referring to the same physical path, the new site returns this error:
HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found
The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
Most likely causes:
The directory or file specified does not exist on the Web server.
The URL contains a typographical error.
A custom filter or module, such as URLScan, restricts access to the file.
Things you can try:
Create the content on the Web server.
Review the browser URL.
Create a tracing rule to track failed requests for this HTTP status code and see which module is calling SetStatus. For more information about creating a tracing rule for failed requests, click here.

What could be the issue causing the error?
Your IIS worker process identity is not able to read the path .
Please make sure your application pool identity has access to the UNC path
\FILESERVER\tech_share\Sites\LBS_ADOT2\Migrate\LBEService\
You can check the identity is same as in the working machine

I have created a Web application. i need to add 2 virtual directories. i have gone to the properties of the application and in the web tab i have created the 2 directories. i have the run the site and gone into the IIS express config and changed the physical path of the 2 directories. the directories are mapped from a server.
when i run the site i get "Error message 401.2.: Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration. Verify that you have permission to view this directory or page based on the credentials you supplied and the authentication methods enabled on the Web server."
how do i know which user is IIS express is using to know how to give access to the directories?
Thanks

I am trying to publish an ASP.NET MVC web application locally using IIS server. The files of the application are uploaded but whenever I run the application in the browser (localhost/WebApp), get the following exception:

I've tried to google and tried to follow this link but seems like need some advice to resolve it: (Clearly unable to understand)
Troubleshoot IIS Issue
Do I need to configure anything else in the Web.config file or in the IIS server?
It seems like you don't have Windows Permission to read the Web.config file and I believe, you don't have to change anything in the Web.config file.
In IIS server, add a user IIS_IUSRS using the security tab in the edit permissions sections. It'll allow all the user to access that file. If you ask about the IIS_IUSRS, it means when a web project is run on the IIS server, it associates the application pool with a user like local system, network services. So make sure about it.
I am trying to configure IIS local server but I get the following error while accessing the site:
The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid
Details
Module: IIS Web Core
Notification: BeginRequest
Handler: Not yet determined
Error Code: 0x80070005
Config Error: Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions
Logon Method: Not yet determined
Logon User: Not yet determined
This problem occurs for one of the following reasons:
You are using IIS 7.0 on a computer that is running Windows Vista. Additionally, you configure the Web site to use UNC Passthrough authentication to access a remote Universal Naming Convention (UNC) share.
The IIS_IUSRS group does not have the appropriate permissions for the ApplicationHost.config file, for the Web.config file, or for the virtual/application directories of IIS.
Click here for details and methods for solving the problem.
IIS 7.5 is looking for my web.config file in a mapped route and not in the actual folder location.
Example
C:\inetpub\wwwroot\api\thedoors\1 <-- is where it's looking this is not a directory but a specified url in WebApiConfig class
Where it should look is
c:\inetpub]wwwroot\thedoors\
I'm using publish from VS 2012 to publish locally to my IIS 7.5 web server.

Benny, this is not the problem with the virtual location of your web.config file. It is telling you that something about your web.config file is not correct. It seems that it cannot find physical web.config in the location C:\inetpub\wwwroot\api\thedoors\web.config where your Web API is executing. Do you have the file in the specified location?
UPDATE: I would open IIS Managment Console and check folder mappings.
I just created a sample Web API project and published it to a local IIS, but I cannot reproduce the issue. My folder mappings seem to be OK. The folder is C:\inetpub\wwwroot\sampleapi and web.config is there.
i'm trying to deploy asp.net application, i transfered all the files into server's root directory by ftp.
but i got this error:
Server Error in '/' Application.
Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

I added line but the error is still the same..;/
locally everything works fine.
what should i do?
Is this your own server? In other words, do you have direct access to IIS on this server? Maybe you already did this, but in case you didn't: You need to create an application for the site in IIS. The easiest way to do this is to right-click on your website (Default Website if you only have one) in IIS and choose "Add Virtual Directory..."
