I am new to programming. I am retrieving a column Price from my database and saving it into a list. I want to perform some multiplication with that data and want to store the result after multiplication into another list. Here is the code i wrote to fetch data and store it into a list.
SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter("Select Price from FoodPackages",con);
DataSet dataset = new DataSet();
da.Fill(dataset, "FoodPackages");
List<int> package_price = new List<int>();
foreach(DataRow row in dataset.Tables["FoodPackages"].Rows)
{
package_price.Add(Convert.ToInt32(row["Price"]));
}
for( int i = 0; i<package_price.Count; i++)
{
int food = guest * package_price[i]; // Food = The total food cost
}
The line in which i am multiplying guest with each element of list. Here i have an integer variable but instead of this i want a list. Kindly help me do this.
Thanks in advance
If I understand you correctly like this:
SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter("Select Price from FoodPackages",con);
DataSet dataset = new DataSet();
da.Fill(dataset, "FoodPackages");
List<int> package_price = new List<int>();
foreach(DataRow row in dataset.Tables["FoodPackages"].Rows)
{
package_price.Add(Convert.ToInt32(row["Price"]));
}
// Initialize a new list
List<int> myList = new List<int>();
for( int i = 0; i<package_price.Count; i++)
{
int food = guest * package_price[i]; // Food = The total food cost
// Add element into the list
myList.Add(food);
}
ADD: If a "guest" variable is not type of int, then you have to create List of decimal:
List<decimal> myList = new List<decimal>();
for( int i = 0; i<package_price.Count; i++)
{
//int food = guest * 20; // this line is not necessary
// You can calculate and add element into the list at once
myList.Add(guest * 20);
}

I have a datatable, then I have all the column names of the datatable as checkbox, I want to display only those column records, for which user selected from the checkbox:
Below is the code, but I am not getting the desired result
var values = "";
string clmnm = "";
for (int i = 0; i < interestedIN.Items.Count; i++)
{
if (interestedIN.Items[i].Selected)
{
values += interestedIN.Items[i].Value + ",";
}
}
values = values.TrimEnd(',');
string[] words = values.Split(',');
DataTable dt = new DataTable();
dt = (DataTable)Session["dataset"];
DataTable dt1 = new DataTable();
foreach (string word in words)
{
dt1.Columns.Add(word, typeof(string));
if (clmnm == string.Empty)
{
clmnm = word.Trim();
}
else
{
clmnm += "," +word.Trim();
}
}
foreach (DataRow dr in dt.Rows)
{
string[] split = clmnm.Split(',');
int j =0;
string str = "";
string str2 = "";
while( j < split.Length)
{
str = split[j].ToString();
if (str2 == string.Empty)
{
str2 = "dr[\""+str.ToString()+"\"]";
}
else
{
str2 += "," + "dr[\""+str.ToString()+"\"]";
}
j+=1;
}
dt1.Rows.Add(str2);
}
then I am trying to export the result as an excel sheet: but getting the below excel sheet:
There is a lot of changes to be done to your code. Lets begin with selected columns from CheckBoxList. Try using List or Arrays to store which columns that user wants. Like
List<string> columns = new List<string>();
Then store the selected columns into the columns list. Then you need to add columns to your new DataTable dt1. As,
DataTable dt1 = new DataTable();
for (int i = 0; i < interestedIN.Items.Count; i++)
{
if (interestedIN.Items[i].Selected) //If user selected this columns checkbox.
{
columns.Add(interestedIN.Items[i].Text.Trim()); //Storing values to List.
dt1.Columns.Add(interestedIN.Items[i].Text.Trim()); //Adding columns to the DataTable.
}
}
Then you can loop through your original DataTable dt and store the values as below.
foreach (DataRow dr in dt.Rows)
{
DataRow dr1 = dt1.NewRow(); // Create new row which should have identical structure for inserting.
foreach(string col in columns)
{
dr1(col) = dr(col);
}
dt1.Rows.Add(dr1); //Add the row with the contents to the table.
}
DataRow new_row = tb11.NewRow();
for (i = 0; i < 8; i++)
{
new_row[i] = tb11.Rows[0][i].ToString();
}
tb11.Rows.Add(new_row);
I am running the following code to add data to a existing datatable but no data is inserted into the databale.
DataTable dt = ds3.Tables["FormName"];
dt.Columns.Add();
dt.Columns.Add();
dt.Columns.Add();
dt.Columns[2].ColumnName = "EmpId";
dt.Columns[3].ColumnName = "EmpName";
dt.Columns[4].ColumnName = "Branch";
for (int i = 0; i < dt.Rows.Count; i++)
{
dt.Rows[i]["EmpId"] = UID;
dt.Rows[i]["EmpName"] = EmpName;
dt.Rows[i]["Branch"] = Zone;
}
dt.AcceptChanges();
foreach (DataRow row in dt.Rows)
{
string NEmpId = dt.Rows[j]["EmpId"].ToString();
string NEmpName = dt.Rows[j]["EmpName"].ToString();
}
you are calling newrow() on the same table tb11 from where you get your source data and adding new row in same table tb11. Also tb11.Rows[0] will access first row everytime
Is it possible to create a gridview based on a list? I have the following list:
ID = 1
Name = John
Zip = 33141
ID = 2
Name = Tim
Zip = 33139
I want to be able to create an editable gridview with this list
When i bind it to the grid view, it seems to put everyting in one column, and i can't figure out how to get it to seperate it into different columns
Here is my code for setting the DataSource of the GridView:
DataTable table = ConvertListToDataTable(personList);
GridView1.DataSource = table;
GridView1.DataBind();
static DataTable ConvertListToDataTable(List<string> list)
{
// New table.
DataTable table = new DataTable();
// Get max columns.
int columns = 7;
// Add columns.
for (int i = 0; i < columns; i++)
{
table.Columns.Add();
}
// Add rows.
foreach (var rd in list)
{
table.Rows.Add(rd);
}
return table;
}
Here is an example:
private class Person
{
int m_iID;
string m_sName;
string m_sZip;
public int ID { get { return m_iID; } }
public string Name { get { return m_sName; } }
public string Zip { get { return m_sZip; } }
public Person(int iID, string sName, string sZip)
{
m_iID = iID;
m_sName = sName;
m_sZip = sZip;
}
}
private List<Person> m_People;
private void ConvertListToDataTable(List<Person> People)
{
DataTable table = new DataTable();
DataColumn col1 = new DataColumn("ID");
DataColumn col2 = new DataColumn("Name");
DataColumn col3 = new DataColumn("Zip");
col1.DataType = System.Type.GetType("System.String");
col2.DataType = System.Type.GetType("System.String");
col3.DataType = System.Type.GetType("System.String");
table.Columns.Add(col1);
table.Columns.Add(col2);
table.Columns.Add(col3);
foreach (Person person in People)
{
DataRow row = table.NewRow();
row[col1] = person.ID;
row[col2] = person.Name;
row[col3] = person.Zip;
table.Rows.Add(row);
}
GridView1.DataSource = table;
GridView1.DataBind();
}
I have dynamically created textbox in asp.net. Now i am extracting the values through following code.
string[] sublist = new string[] { };
int[] maxmarkslist = new int[] { };
int i;
for (i = 0; i < Convert.ToInt32(Label15.Text); i++)
{
string sub = "subject" + i;
string marks = "maxmarks" + i;
TextBox subject = (TextBox)PlaceHolder1.FindControl(sub);
TextBox maxmarks = (TextBox)PlaceHolder1.FindControl(marks);
sublist[i] = subject.Text;
maxmarkslist[i] = Convert.ToInt32(maxmarks.Text);
}
But I getting error "Index was outside the bounds of the array" for the below two lines:
sublist[i] = subject.Text;
maxmarkslist[i] = Convert.ToInt32(maxmarks.Text);
When I debugged it, values are coming in subject.Text and maxmarks.Text but not going to array.
Did I define the array in a wrong way?
You define both the arrays as empty arrays. So you will get index out of bound erros if you try to index into those.
Arrays are not dynamically expanding. If you want that, use a collection type and may be later convert to an array.
Try this:
int length = Convert.ToInt32(Label15.Text);
string[] sublist = new string[length-1];
int[] maxmarkslist = new int[length-1];
for (int i = 0; i < length; i++)
{
string sub = "subject" + i;
string marks = "maxmarks" + i;
TextBox subject = (TextBox)PlaceHolder1.FindControl(sub);
TextBox maxmarks = (TextBox)PlaceHolder1.FindControl(marks);
sublist[i] = subject.Text;
maxmarkslist[i] = Convert.ToInt32(maxmarks.Text);
}
Or here is how to do this with a collection (List) type:
int length = Convert.ToInt32(Label15.Text);
List<string> sublist1 = new List<string>();
List<int> maxmarkslist1 = new List<int>();
for (int i = 0; i < Convert.ToInt32(Label15.Text); i++)
{
string sub = "subject" + i;
string marks = "maxmarks" + i;
TextBox subject = (TextBox)PlaceHolder1.FindControl(sub);
TextBox maxmarks = (TextBox)PlaceHolder1.FindControl(marks);
sublist1.Add(subject.Text);
maxmarkslist1.Add(Convert.ToInt32(maxmarks.Text));
}
string[] sublist = sublist1.ToArray();
int[] maxmarkslist = maxmarkslist1.ToArray();
Note with collections you dont have to specify the size upfront. But keep adding items to it as it can expand as needed. But arrays can not do this.
Your string[] sublist = new string[] { }; is a shortcut method where you create and initialize the array. In that you don't have to specify the size, but compiler will count the elements between {} and set the size appropriately. In your case since there are no elements inside {} it will create an empty array.
string[] sublist = new string[100];
int[] maxmarkslist = new int[100];
Put this..replace 100 with the max possible value of your loop...but this is not a good practice...will come back to this thread if i found something better...
Hi
I have created session array :
int[] a = (int[])Session["values"];
Now i have to bind this value to my gridview. I have one column (boundfield in my gridview) in gridview.
I used code to bind array to gridview as follows, but its giving last value only as i want all the values to bind :
for (int i = 0; i < a.Length; i++)
{
str = "select * from Quest_Info where Quest_id='" + a[i] + "' order by Quest_id";
SqlDataAdapter da2 = new SqlDataAdapter(str, sqlconn);
ds2 = new DataSet();
da2.Fill(ds2, "Result");
reviewgrid.DataSource = ds2;
reviewgrid.DataBind();
}
Which code will work for this?
Asp.net, c#
Thank You.
Your code may not work because you are trying to bind gridview in the for loop which keep repeating and will result to bind only one last array id in the end.
You may try to prepare query out front before binding the gridview as example below.
string questIds = string.Empty;
for (int i = 0; i < a.Length; i++)
{
if (questIds.Length > 0)
questIds += ", ";
questIds += a[i];
}
string strSQL = "select * from Quest_Info where Quest_id IN ("+ questIds + ") order by Quest_id";
SqlDataAdapter da2 = new SqlDataAdapter(str, sqlconn);
ds2 = new DataSet();
da2.Fill(ds2, "Result");
reviewgrid.DataSource = ds2;
reviewgrid.DataBind();
