I am following the Umbraco Tutorial on Our.Umbraco. I've gotten to the part where we just finished creating a master page and now we are using it to create new pages.
https://our.umbraco.org/documentation/Tutorials/Creating-Basic-Site/Creating-Master-Template-Part-2
I am confused by this step
Firstly let's select an Icon - type the word "Content" into the filter and select the document icon. In description type "A simple content page". Click Save.
I honestly have no idea what this is talking about. I've followed each step successfully until this part. What filter is it talking about?
I followed the step before it just fine.
Go to Settings > Document Types (hover) > ... > + Create > Document Type . Let's create one called "Simple Content Page".
Am I supposed to hit 'save' now or is this filter on this Docuemnt Type creation section?
Here is a photo of where I am at.
The first comment is telling you to change the icon for your Document Type. This is the icon that will be used in the content tree for pages of this type. To do this just click on the icon next to the name and description fields.
The filter is just the search box that you can use to filter the icons.

how can I add a "to the top" link at the end of a collection in plone?
This collection is in a collage. I thought of adding the article type "page" in a new row where I could use the HTML-Editor and use there an internal link to the top of the page.. But it seems inconvenient to me.
Isn't there a better way?
A very simple way could be using the Plone inner feature of the document_actions (a tool still available but not used anymore from Plone 4.0 and up).
Go to ZMI, access the portal_actions tool, the document_actions. Now add a new "CMF Action" from the form on the right.
The important information for you is the "URL (Expression)", that must be something like string:#youranchortarget. To fill every other field copy from existing actions.
If you need this link only for a content type or something like this, just play with the "Condition (Expression)".
Links inside this tool are displayed in the plone.abovecontenttitle.documentactions viewlet.
If you want the link on every "page" item, then you could customize the default view's template.
Ok I'll try to explain a little better.
I have created a view to display 3 items of a certain content type on homepage.
When I click each piece of content it takes me to actual content eg node22.
I need to be able to change this so when content on homepage is clicked it goes to a specific url alias I have already setup eg contact us page.
Any idea what I need to achieve this??
We really need more info on your view to answer this but here are some thoughts.
If your display type is content the title automatically links to the node page so I will assume this is not what your issue is.
If you are using fields view just select the checkbox that says: "Link this field to the original piece of content". It is available in most "node" fields such as nid and title.
From above your example is how to "link node 49 to education page" You may be just needing the path module for that. Enable the core path module and then visit the node page you want to set a custom url for. Their should be a tab called "URL Path Settings" at the bottom of the page. Spice those up a bit more by downloading and installing the path auto module and the node url wil automatically be set when you create it.
I've just started using D7 and was trying to set up a system where people can add a couple types of content and associate one with the other via nodereference.
I only want users to be able to see and work with their own content.
To achieve this in D6 I used a view for nodereference.
In D6 I used argument : user: uid and if there is no arg, it uses the user id of the logged in user. This would return all of the content that was authored by the user.
I haven't been able to figure out how to do this in Views 3?
got it:
you first need to add a User relationship, then you will see new filters and contextual filters - one of which is "current user" or something like that
This five minute video shows how to do it, as well: http://nodeone.se/sv/node/684
With contextual filters you can also display the list as a tab on each user page (as shown in the screencast).
If you're interested in a list that always shows the current user's posts, you can use a standard filter instead – there is a "current user" filter available.
Edited: The original link is broken. I'm not sure which video it was, but it could be one of the following (which all deal with this topic).

For drupal 7
Steps for doing as the above question are
Create a new content view and limit it to the content type you want.
Uncheck "Create a page" and check "Create a block." Select the format you want; I recommend an HTML list of linked titles. Click "Continue & edit."
Add a contextual filter for "Content: Author uid."
Under "When the filter value is not available," select "Provide a default value," and select "User ID from URL" from the dropdown. Because blocks don't understand contextual filters very well, the view won't work properly without this default value, and all posts of the given content type will show on all user pages (not just the user's own posts).
Under "When the filter value is available or a default is provided," check "Specify validation criteria" and select "Basic validation" as the validator. Select "Hide view" from the dropdown.
Save your view.
Assuming that you created a block display, the block will now be available on the Blocks page. Go there and open it.
Set your block to display on all user pages (/user/*) in the correct region. Save the block.
Your block should now appear on all user pages, showing the content written by each user.

This what I am expecting:
If the user filled the textbox, and if the user checked means, while displaying the content on that time, content should show as a link, if the user is not checked, then it need not to show the link while that content in view mode. See the following image for an illustration.
Not an exact solution to what you want to do but I believe the Link Module will display only text if no url is entered.
You can give users a message saying to leave URL field blank and only enter a TITLE if they want plain text.
UPDATE:
You don't need to code any hooks. The CCK Module adds fields to content types. The Link Module adds link functionality to CCK.
No coding is necessary; this can all be done from the admin panel. If you have no idea what I'm talking about see this video.
http://drupal.org/project/conditional_fields module does exactly what you are trying to accomplish. You can use the link_field of cck along with the conditional fields module. So based on the value in the check-box you can choose to display it in the node view.
I'm trying to theme a single "display" in a view. What I'm trying to achieve is to have some control over how the row is rendered (eg. print the fields in the row, and maybe add some text in between. along with some divs for styling purpose). I've looked for days for the template to edit. I've used even the Theme Developer and the View's Theme Information, but no luck. All
My view's name is Calendar, and there are a bunch of displays. Could anyone tell me what I should do in order to customize the rows in this particular display? Does drupal even provide this flexibility?
The Name and Title of my display in the Calendar view is:
Name: List view
Title: List
Here's the theme information for row style:
Row style output: views-view-fields.tpl.php, views-view-fields--calendar.tpl.php, views-view-fields--page.tpl.php, views-view-fields--calendar--page.tpl.php, views-view-fields--calendar.tpl.php, views-view-fields--page-1.tpl.php, views-view-fields--calendar--page-1.tpl.php
Could someone tell me how to
Edit:
(Some additional information the OP posted in an answer)
I'm using Drupal 6. I'm not sure what page-1 indicates here The following is the list of display I have in this view:
Defaults
Calendar page
Calendar block
Month view
Week view
Block view
Upcoming
List view
Ongoing Block Feed
As you see, none of which has the string "page-1". I edited views-view-list.tpl.php, one of the file listed for "style output". The only variable I have access to is rows, which is an array containing all individual rendered "row". Like I mentioned before, the rows are generated somewhere else, and already contain the rendered fields. How can I customize these rows?
You shouldn't have to add anything to template.php if you are using Drupal 6.
The list of possible theme files that you have there goes in order from least to most specific. For instance, the first one, views-view-fields.tpl.php, will apply to all fields of all views on your site. The last one, views-view-fields--calendar--page-1.tpl.php, will only apply to the "page 1" display of the "calendar" view, so I'm guessing that's the one you want to overwrite.
When you click on Theme Information in the view, the display provided ("page 1" or whatever) applies to the display you are currently on. So if you want to theme fields in a certain display (the "blocky block" display of the "calendar" view, for instance), then you would click the "blocky block" display in the vertical menu on the left, then click Theme Information for that display.
So once you figure out which one you want to use, make a new file in your theme directory with that name, then copy of the contents of the current theme file (click the name of the theme files section on the Theme Information page) into your new theme file, then edit away. Remember, if you overwrite a theme file, you have to click "Rescan template files" in the Theme Information page for the new file to take effect.
Hope that helps!
The displays have custom names on the surface only, but internally they are referenced by id. 'page_1' will be your first display of type 'page' (blocks will become 'block_[id]', feeds will become 'feed_[id]' and so on).
So if you posted your displays in order, 'page_1' would be the 'Calendar' display. You can check this by looking at the links under the display entries in the display listing on the right of the views config page. They will have anchors named '#views-tab-page_1', '#views-tab-block_1' and so on.
As for overriding the templates, be aware that if you add a new *.tpl.php file, you need to reset the theme registry for it to be 'picked up' by Drupal.
Have you added the custom code needed in the template.php file? I know in drupal 5 you need to put code in 3 files:
template.php
views-views-fields--[name].tpl.php
views-views-fields--[name].css
Also you might try:

answering the second question: the style output is not the template you're looking for. row style is the template that edits how fields are arranged within the row. if you want to edit how a particular field outputs its content, then the specific field template should be edited.
