I am trying to configured ADFS for form based authentication.
When I try to login, I see the following error in the ADFS event viewer logs
S4U Logon for user with upn 'user#domain' threw the following exception: 'Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service'
Any advice is greatly appreciated
If the user is in another forest you need to ensure to use two way forest trusts instead of an external trust. Fba uses Kerberos s4u at adfs side. S4u only works with forest trusts. Get your active directory guy on this to check trust setup at the ad side for the impacted user account.

Hi have not been able to find an answer on stackoverflow or online hoping someone has experience of a similar setup.
We have .NET Core 3.1 user management application which obtains user information from a Windows 2016 Active Directory server (application access is done via the groups defined in AD) fairly rudementary the idea is:
Start application > Redirect to WSO2 (version 5.9.0) IAM Logon page
Attemp to logon with a valid AD user (which has been set to 'user must change password at next logon'..)
WSO2 appears to attempt to authenticate and then logon however fails
Kibana shows logon failed message for this particualr user
The WSO2 logon page shows an error message
However what we were expecting to happen was for a redirect to occur back to the .NET Core application and we customised the logon.jsp related pages as per the WSO2 Customisation guide.
WSO2 does not have an identity providers it uses a service provider with SAML SSO configured.
The custom logon.jsp page has some code that checks the incoming RelyingParty value and performs the appropriate redirect as required.
The issue:
The redirect is not working as expected instead of redirecting back to the .NET Core application that made the initial call to the WSO2 IAM the above occurs i.e. the logon page shows an authentication error.
What we would like for the server to do is redirect back the .NET Core application IF the 'user must change password at next logon' radio button is enabled on their AD account - this needs to happen at the server side i.e. WSO2 (well that's my limited understanding if you know better please do advise).
Ideal scenario:
.NET App startup > WSO2 logon page
SAML SSO flow > LDAP query to AD return user
detect the 'user must change password at next logon' is true and then redirect back to the .NET app where the app will take over query AD display the change password views (nothing special about these standard change-password actions)
.NET App > call WSO2 again perform valid logon return with SAML SSO response back to .NET APP.

As per your issue description, I believe that you have made the following configuration in the AD.
I believe you have initiated the Admin Forced Password Reset flow by setting the "User must change password at next login" option in the AD for the user. But unfortunately, it is not possible as once the "change password at next login" is selected in the AD, it marks the password as expired and the WSO2 IS treats it as Authentication Failed (LDAP error code 49). Therefore, it will require API level customization of WSO2 IS basic authenticator and the user store manager to achieve your requirement.
But in the WSO2 IS Admin Forced Password Reset flow, the user will be given an OTP through email to log in to the IS and the password reset flow will be initiated as similar to your requirement without using the AD. Hence, it is recommended to use the Admin Forced Password Reset flow available in the WSO2 IS to reset the password of the user.
My company just finish set up a reporting services server 2017.
The service run under a domain name.
At the same server, an IIS has been setup to run a web application in ASP.NET which will server the report from a report viewer. The IIS is currently running with default App Pool.
GOAL : We want client to be able to access the report from the web application without having to fill in the username and password from anywhere be it on intranet or internet.
Before this, we have ssrs 2008 with similar setup but for authentication we go with anonymous authentication, which is what we want, they can view report from anywhere.
But from microsoft site, they stated that authentication isn't supported anymore in the latest version, and we have tried doing it which results in error 401: Unauthorized.

SPN for reporting services account.
Delegation for reporting services account.
Web application web.config I've added authentication mode="Windows" identity impersonate="true"
On IIS, I've enabled windows authentication and impersonate.
But when I try to request a report from the web application, I still got the prompt for username and password, when I fill in my domain and password, I still got the same error 401: Unauthorized.
Am I doing something wrong? Is Kerberos really suitable for my GOAL?

When you are planning to deploy the reporting service on the internet its batter to use the custom authentication instead of the windows authentication. Creating a custom authentication extension requires custom code and expertise in ASP.NET security.
If you do not want to code a custom authentication extension, you can use Microsoft Active Directory groups and accounts, but you should greatly reduce the scope of a report server deployment. The following guidelines describe how to support this scenario:
Create a low-privileged domain user account with read-only permissions. The account must have access to the computer hosting the report server. Provide a custom Web form so that users can log on using the low-privileged domain account.
Create role assignments that map the user account to specific items in the report server folder hierarchy. You can limit access to read-only operations by choosing as the role assignment the Browser predefined role.
Configure reports to use stored credentials to get data for the report. This approach is useful if you want to query the external data source using an account that is different from the account that allows access to the report server.

I have been tasked with integrating single-sign-on for an existing application, so I've been working on a couple of demos. The first one was the standard demo for Spring Security and I got that working. Now I'm trying to do a proof-of-concept demo where I created a toy version of the application in question with only two screens: one for login, and one to display some information about the user that logged in. I want to integrate SSO with this application so that the user has two ways to be authenticated: either by entering credentials directly in the login screen or by a SSO SAML request...
So I copied over SAML libraries and configurations from the standard SSO demo into my proof-of-concept application, and I seem to have SSO working, albeit a bit too well, in that I'm no longer able to get to my login screen, i.e., I still want that to be the default behaviour for someone entering the base URL for the application. How do I have to configure my application to achieve this?
The way I solved the problem was by changing the Spring Security configuration so that instead of using the generic /** to require SSO authentication for most pages of the application, it nows only requires such authentication for a single HTML page, sso.htm. This "page" is really translated by the application as a request to a controller that handles the application-specific processing for an SSO request. The initial page for the application, redirect.jsp, now contains some logic to pick which page a user should be redirected to, based on whether he or she got to that page directly (i.e., by typing in the default URL for the application) or via a SAML message from a trusted identity provider.
Note: For this to work, the initial page cannot be designated in the Spring Security configuration as either a secured or unsecured page. If it were secured, then this page could only be accessed after an SSO authentication, so a user would be thwarted from doing a non-SSO login. If unsecured, then the security context would not be accessible from that page, so the page logic would be unable to determine if the user in question has SAML credentials and an SSO authentication request for the application could never be fulfilled.
Once the user has been authenticated, either by credentials entered in the login screen or by an SSO request, from that point on, the application's continuing authentication of that user to view its pages is the same, i.e., no further SSO authentication is done. But when the user logs off from the application (or is logged off due to a session timeout), a check is made then to see if SSO authentication was done for this user. If so, then in addition to being logged out from the application, a local SSO logout is also done for the user, i.e., the SSO authentication session for the application is terminated, but the user remains logged in with his or her identity provider. So such a user could log back into the application in question, either directly via the application's login screen or by having the identity provider issue a new SAML message.

I'm developing an application in ASP.NET to be put on our company's intranet site. I've been handed a specification in regards to security and have no idea how to do it.
First part: The application is to use Windows Authentication. This part seems easy enough; I opened IIS in Administrative Tools, right clicked the node of my website, properties and checked 'Integrate Windows Authentication'. However, I have no idea how I will govern which people have access to my site. I'm thinking this should be taken care of at the database level. This is Q#1
Second part -- I have to implement a process for the following scenario: User 'Jane' can log in to our network, but does not have rights to my application. User 'Bob' does have rights to use my application. Bob needs to be able to sit at Jane's computer (under her network account), but be able to enter his credentials into my application and use it (even though Jane is logged into the local machine and network). This is Q#2
Any help, general direction, or advice would be appreciated. The winning lottery numbers would be appreciated even more.

Part 2...you're right, that's tough. You'll need to roll your own custom security provider.
You'll have a login page, then check that against Active Directory yourself. From MSDN
ASP.NET also supports custom solutions
for using Windows authentication,

With this approach you must manually

Windows Authentication is useful if you want "auto-signon" capability. The site will "know" the user by ID without them having to sign in.
The need for users to login from multiple locations means that you must implement a login page. This would fulfill your requirement in which one user may sit at another's workstation and log in.
You will want to authenticate users against the Windows domain. This can be done with a custom membership provider. Here's a walkthrough:

This will allow you to present a login page that will authenticate users with their domain username and password. This will authenticate users- the identity of the user will be stored in the HttpContext.User. You can then also maintain a user list in a database to store authorization data.

My supervisor at the office tells me that he saw a demonstration with a pre-release version of Microsoft "Geneva" (now Windows Identity Foundation) where a developer did the following:
He set up some sort of ASP.net web application where a user could log in using a customized log-on system. Behind the scenes, the web application logs the user in as a user in an Active Directory.
The user logs in.
Once the user is logged in, the the ASP.net web application thread runs as the logged in user for the duration of the user's session and can access resources on the network (such as running SQL queries on tables whose access is controlled Active Directory)
Steps 2) and 3) are exactly the same as using the "Integrated Windows Authentication" setting in the "Directory Security" tab of the web site settings in IIS. Step 1) is different because we are using a custom log-on system as opposed to the Kerberos authentication.
We want to set up one of our applications to operate exactly as described in 1), 2), and 3). However, all the documentation that I've seen regarding Windows Identify Foundation is about Cardspace and Federated Security. We have zero interest in using either of these technologies right now.
We just want to be able to log users in to Active Directory Accounts behind the scenes.
Yes, we've tried the ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider with Forms Authentication, but it's a complete kludge to actually access resources on the network requiring impersonation on every page!
UPDATE Jan 7, 2010. Okay, I've been working at this for a while, and everything I've managed to come up falls short of what I want to achieve. Perhaps the functionality I want is not in the release version of WIF.
Here's where I'm at now. I've found some documentation on MSDN that indicates that there are three different identities used in ASP.net: the identity specified by HttpContext.Current.User, the identity specified by Thread.CurrentPrincipal, and finally the identity specified by WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent. link
In one example of where I want to use the process I'm looking to design, I want to perform a SQL query as the logged in user. In my debugger, I see that I easily set the HttpContext and Thread users to the logged in user. However, when I connect to the SQL server using Windows Authentication, it always always always connects as the WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent user and that user is always always always the identity of the ASP.net process unless I'm using Windows Authentication with impersonation. I absolutely cannot use Windows Authentication with my application because my users must log in by playing a magic flute song and Windows Authentication has no support for logging in with magic flute songs.
To clarify, there is no trouble with obtaining a WindowsIdentity representing the logged in user (who logged in with a magic flute song). The problem is that I cannot use that WindowsIdentity to perform SQL queries for my user.
WIF allows you to configure it so a claims based identity maps to an AD account, the claim may either be a federated identity claim, or delivered via an information card. c2WTS performs this function.
Even when it does map because of delegation you're always going to have to delegate if you want to use the AD identity IIS is impersonating - that's just how it works, unless you setup Kerberos delegation for IIS
You can achieve the same using Identity Impersonation in ASP.net. Also you need to enable windows integrated authentication for you web app. This will solve the purpose. If the logged in user does not have the required rights to access resources you will get security exceptions which you will have to handle.
