As the title says,
I need to know the name of the theme being used in any drupal page.
For example we can set a default theme and a admin theme for our drupal site basically. For now lets consider only this part and don't get into user specific themes.
So in the above case the home page will load using default_theme and when you do to any admin pages, they will load in admin_theme(seven/bartik).
Now my question is I need to know what theme is being loaded when I navigate to any page of the site. May it be a node/add or node/edit or admin/* or page/* or any page.
Simply when I go to any page I shoudl know the theme name being used in that page and in which hook I can write my conditions.
Based on that I want to do some changes.
I tried using globals $theme, path_to_theme, drupal_get_path etc
When I use them ,they always return the default theme name and not the theme being used in a specific page.
I wrote exit statement for $variables in hook_preprocess_html and it returns value by exiting only if the page is normal users page. But not in admin pages like sitename/admin/content etc.,
Any one who can help.
Thanks in advance
Create a custom module, and put your code in function hook_init(){} in your .module.
No arguments.
function example_init() {
global $theme;
print $theme.'<br />'; // current theme name
print $GLOBALS['theme'].'<br />'; // current theme name
$theme_path = drupal_get_path('theme', $GLOBALS['theme']);
print $theme_path.'<br />'; // path to current theme
}

Title says it really. Basic pages created in Drupal don’t seem to use the page.tpl.php file as a template.
If I edit the html.tpl.php file, those changes apply to every page, and it causes errors when I load a basic page.
I have also tried to copy the page.tpl.php file and name it page—basic-page.tpl.php to no avail.
Any idea what’s going on?
Also, how do I go about changing the page_top variable to include more content?
Lastly, the default page.tpl.php file has $page variables and things like $page_top and the like.
How would I call the title from the page only and the body text of a page only?
I’m using Drupal 7 and a custom sub theme.
The aforementioned files are in the template folder of the theme and I did clear caches when I added them.
Add $conf['theme_debug'] = TRUE; in settings.php and clear cache, reload page and check view source.
It will display the template file suggestions.
page.tpl.php file common for all pages. Just print anything to the tpl and run any node of basic page as well as other content type page and check if its working or not. If page.tpl.php not working for basic page only, then check your template.php file.
For print a page title just need to use following code:
<?php print $title; ?>
For print body text you need to use following:
<?php print render($page['content']); ?>
This may depend on the theme you are using. But I guess you are actually meaning page--page.tpl.php (double dashes). Which will be taken into account after you added the following snippet to your theme's template.php. Replace MYTHEME with your theme's machine name.
function MYTHEME_preprocess_page(&$variables) {
if (isset($variables['node']->type)) {
// If the content type's machine name is "my_machine_name" the file
// name will be "page--my-machine-name.tpl.php".
$variables['theme_hook_suggestions'][] = 'page__' . $variables['node']->type; // (double underscores)
}
}
See Template (theme hook) suggestions, where I also got above snippet from.
active theme debug for inspecting the template source and you get a different suggestions to user it (just avoid using node/nid).
commend drush to enable theme debug drush vset theme_debug 1
I am new to wordpress and want to know best way to add css from installed and activated plugin.
I have one activated plugin called "social-media" and in that plugin i have created one css file called "social-login-style.css"
I want to include this css file and apply style to my content. How should I add css file in any page so that I can see the effects.
In Short, I want to add social-login-style.css on wp-login.php file.
Whether it is theme or plugin, css or js, any custom addition, wp_enqueue_scripts is the only acton you need for all.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Action_Reference/wp_enqueue_scripts
function additional_custom_styles() {
/* Enqueue The Styles */
wp_enqueue_style( 'custom-login-style', plugins_url( 'social-login-style.css', __FILE__ ) );
}
add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'additional_custom_styles' );
If you it to be added only on login screen then use the following condition,
if ( $GLOBALS['pagenow'] === 'wp-login.php' ) {
// We're on the login page!
}
Hope this one help :)
UPDATE
Please check login_enqueue_scripts. it is designed to add custom scripts into login page only. Works well without any login condition.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Action_Reference/login_enqueue_scripts
Without saying what you want to achieve is impossible, it certainly is against how WordPress is designed to work. Plugins are supposed to be modules that add to or modify how WordPress works. The folder of a plugin should only hold files pertaining to what the plugin does and, if it's a public plugin, its contents are controlled by a versioning (SVN) system.
In short, adding a file to an existing plugin will not have any effect, regardless of whether the plugin is active or not. And you should not add files to plugins you haven't developed yourself.
To load a CSS file on the login page, one should add an action hook to login_enqueue_scripts, as instructed in Customizing Login Form page of the codex. The stylesheet itself should be placed in either a custom plugin (you could create for your use-case) or inside the current theme folder.
I'm currently working on a custom post type and want to be able to edit the archive page from Wordpress with a page template. So I created the CPT called 'cars' and created a page template with template name: 'Cars overview'. Next i create a page inside WordPress and choose the template page 'Cars overview' and gave it the URL: mywebsite.com/cars/
Now the problem is that the slug 'mywebsite.com/cars/' is already in use by the custom post type itself causing the page to load the custom post type loop instead of the page template loop. So I can't edit the title, content etc inside WordPress. I could change the url of the page, but i want to be able to control the overview page in WordPress.
Long story short: How can I create a page template that is using the same URL as the custom post type archive page?
Thanks in advance!
One simple solution, simply disable the archive where you create your custom post type:
register_post_type("cars", array("has_archive" => false));
Another approach rather then disabling the archiving and adding another page to show the cars. Changing the archive template used by your theme might be a better option.
First step is to find the template currently in use by your theme, copy it to your plugin file and you can change the template file to whatever you like. You can find more information about it here.
The only thing you need to do is point WordPress to the right direction:
add_filter("archive_template", "archive_template");
function archive_template($archive_template) {
global $post;
if ($post->post_type == "cars")
{
$archive_template = "path/to/your/template.php";
}
return $archive_template;
}
Disabling the archive and creating one manually seems a bit strange to me. And I always replace the archive page and sometimes single page from our theme (usually the7).
In my plugin i have created a custom template that prints a requested sidebar. and for running the code of this template i assigned a custom page to it (by calling update_metadata) .
Is it a good idea for getting content of a specific sidebar into Ajax call ?
Now my problem is that WORDPRESS shows it in the dashboard and front page , and after searching i have not found any easy to understand solution for Hiding a page completely so only can be accessed by its id .
Can any one tell me how to do that ?
you are going about this the wrong way. You can create a function that can create anything that can be created on a wordpress page.
But if you really must you can create a page outside of the database, etc:
add_action('init', 'add_rewrite_rule');
function add_rewrite_rule(){
// add_rewrite_rule(REGEX url, location, priority (i.e. top is before other rewrite rules)
// I created a custom post type for this plugin called market -- replace post_type with whatever you want
//basically tell wordress to add a query var if sidebar is added to url.
add_rewrite_rule('^sidebar?','index.php?is_sidebar_page=1&post_type=market','top');
}
// register a query var
add_action('query_vars','market_set_query_var');
function market_set_query_var($vars) {
array_push($vars, 'is_sidebar_page');
return $vars;
}
// associate a template with your quer_var
add_filter('template_include', 'market_include_template', 1000, 1);
function market_include_template($template){
if(get_query_var('is_sidebar_page')){
$new_template = (theme or plugin path).'/pages/yourpage.php'; // change this path to your file
if(file_exists($new_template))
$template = $new_template;
}
return $template;
}
This will not be a page that will be in the admin section or in any query that relates to pages but someone could of course navigate to this page. But as i said above you would be better to create a function to create your sidebar. If you want a seperate file to handle the "view" you use require_once 'filename'; a file and keep your functions area free of html.
If you are creating functions in a wordpress plugin dont forget many functions may not be available until later in the load process. Use add_action() if you run into any undefined functions
edit:
you are loading wordpress before you get to the template so you have all the functions. (google wp load for more info) + get_header() / get_footer() will also load a few things like css, etc. I had a small typo in the code above, fixed that but basically what you are doing is telling wordpress if someone lands on www.example.com/sidebar to apply a query_var (rewrite rule). Wordpress will look up its saved vars (final function) and return the template assoc. The 2nd function just registers the var.
You also have wp_functions in any file you create and include in a plugin, etc hence why you can create a file that does exactly the same as this page.
I want my WordPress blog to have a page called music. On that page I will query the DB for posts with the category music and then change around the look and feel of the posts. So I can't just put a link to /categories/music/ because I want to do custom work on the posts.
Should I put this code in a separate php file and link to it? I think I may lose access to all the nice WordPress API calls if I do that.
I was thinking about using a filter, but I am not sure which one to use. I was thinking something like the following except the_title has not been grabbed yet so I cannot check the title.
function show_music(){
if( is_page() && the_title('','',false) == 'music' ){
echo "got here";
}
}
add_filter('pre_get_posts', 'show_portfolio');
How would you go about this?
You need to put the below code in the file, and then put the file in the Theme folder. Then you can create a page using Wordpress pages and select a page template with the name you put in this comment:
/*
Template Name: Something Goes Here
*/
You need to create custom page within your theme. If you dont have idea how to create custme page or template page in WordPress theme then view my easy tutorial How to create template page in WordPress
