I would like to target the single blog post template in the WordPress file functions.php.
I have the following code:
if( is_page_template( 'single.php' ) ){
} else {
wp_deregister_script('jquery');
}
Some reason this does not target the single blog post template. I know that this code works because it works when I put another template in there instead of single.php.
Why won't single.php get targeted in this?
i found the solution
all i had to do was change is_page_template to is_single

I installed a Plugin in a wordpress site which uses some shortcode (like metaslider). But when I insert the shortcode in the page it is not displayed the content of the shortcode but only the string [shortcode].
Have I to insert something in the function.php file of the theme I use? (it is a custom theme)
Thanks in advance
If only the string [shortcode] is shown instead of the actual plugin output, it seems that the output of your pages does not use the do_shortcode filter properly. Without exactly knowing what's happening, try the following:
function filter_content_example($content) {
$content = do_shortcode($content);
return $content;
}
add_filter('the_content', 'filter_content_example');
This is only a first guess. Without further investigation i could not solve that problem.
I designed a template for WordPress, I've only encountered a problem in one section.
How can I create a post to display single.php for my site?
Thanks!
Your issue is a trivial thing. In order to show your blog/website posts, you need to call the_post() function inside of a loop.
As long there are posts in your blog, the_post() should render a response. Take a look at Twenty_Fourteen single.php default template in order to get a better understanding of how things should be.
Make a back up copy of single.php, call this single-original.php.
Open single.php file. Delete the contents of single.php and place the below code in it.
<?php
$post = $wp_query->post;
if ( in_category('2') ) {
include(TEMPLATEPATH . '/single_new.php');
} else {
include(TEMPLATEPATH . '/single_new1.php');
}
?>
Open single-original.php and choose File > Save As and call this file single_new.php. Choose File > Save As again and call this file single_new1.php.
Upload single.php, single_new.php and single_new1.php as well as style.css, if you made changes in this.
Refresh your web page and click on one of the post titles in the category for which you are using single_new1.php.
I'm developing a plugin that creates custom wordpress pages, however I ran into a problem when trying to get shortcodes from other plugins to integrate into my plugin, well more like I couldn't find any info on it.
For example if someone uses my custom page builder and adds a short code [gallery] that is associated with an enabled plugin, I want the shortcode to do it's thing.
Could anyone point me in the right direction for this?
Try wordpress
http://wordpress.org/plugins/synved-shortcodes/
while this plugin let's you integrate shortcodes on every wordpress page , I suppose that you issue is with wordpress functions.php file where you can have a look at , with this plugin installed !
You can check if a shortcode exist before printing it with the function shortcode_exists() (https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/shortcode_exists)
Example:
<?php
if ( shortcode_exists( 'gallery' ) ) {
// The [gallery] short code exists.
}
?>
Then, if it exist and you want to print that shortcode with PHP code you should use do_shortcode() function (https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/do_shortcode/)
Example:
<?php echo do_shortcode('[gallery]); ?>
Always use in WordPress's in-built
the_content
hook to print your custom page content.
WordPress by default process all shortcodes before outputting any stuff from this hook.
More info can be found here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_content
How to change header in Wordpress Blog page and all Post pages only.
I want a custom header in Blog page and all single posts page.
Thanks
You can use conditional tags within Wordpress:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Conditional_Tags
Basically, you will need to create the content you want only for the blog and post pages and wrap this within the conditional tags:
P.S Don't forget to include the category, and archive pages - as well as the post pages.
is_single(), is_archive(), is_category()
<?php if (is_single()) { ?>
// This is a post page
<?php } else { ?>
//This is not a post page
<?php } ?>
Hope this helps.
To include different header for specific pages change get_header($name) function call inside templates and add $name attribute. Wordpress will load header-{name}.php if file exists, if not, default header header.php will be loaded. Check out template hierarchy for templates where you need to change get_header() function call ( single.php, page.php ).
Wordpress documentation:
get_header

I have generated pages using a custom template by creating a php file in my theme directory
something like :
<?php
*
* Template Name: Contact Page
*/
?>
<html ..... </html>
and then adding a new page on the dashboard selecting this new template
How can i now associate tags and categories to each pages ?
Is creating posts instead of pages the only solution?
Even better is to add to functions.php in your theme folder:
function myplugin_settings() {
// Add tag metabox to page
register_taxonomy_for_object_type('post_tag', 'page');
// Add category metabox to page
register_taxonomy_for_object_type('category', 'page');
}
// Add to the admin_init hook of your theme functions.php file
add_action( 'init', 'myplugin_settings' );
Tried using the accepted answer but for some reason it only shows the Post types and none of the Pages shows in the category page. E.g. /category/entertainment/
To fix that, I have to do this:
// add tag and category support to pages
function tags_categories_support_all() {
register_taxonomy_for_object_type('post_tag', 'page');
register_taxonomy_for_object_type('category', 'page');
}
// ensure all tags and categories are included in queries
function tags_categories_support_query($wp_query) {
if ($wp_query->get('tag')) $wp_query->set('post_type', 'any');
if ($wp_query->get('category_name')) $wp_query->set('post_type', 'any');
}
// tag and category hooks
add_action('init', 'tags_categories_support_all');
add_action('pre_get_posts', 'tags_categories_support_query');
Try this:
add_action( 'init', 'wpse34528_add_page_cats' );
function wpse34528_add_page_cats(){
register_taxonomy_for_object_type('post_tag', 'page');
register_taxonomy_for_object_type('category', 'page');
}
Not at all helpful to say 'download plugin' for beginners who are most likely not going to have downloaded wordpress and are therefore not able to install said plugin. Here is some short code for those like me that have been scouring the web for something that actually works on regular pages with regular accounts - ie you're not a developer.
First, make sure you have your pages in your menu set up properly.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO MAKE YOUR PAGES 'Categories' or 'Tags'!
This wouldn't give you actual pages to then go and edit, so if you are wanting to add sliders, text, an intro, or anything for that matter, you wouldn't be able to.
Then go to WP Admin > Pages
Select a page to edit and go to the text editor instead of visual editor (far right hand side tab)
Then past the following short code:
[display-posts category="hair,makeup,reviews,beauty" posts_per_page="10" include_date="true" text-decoration: none date_format="F j, Y" order="DESC" include_excerpt="true" wrapper="div" image_size="large"]
<
(The shortcode collects all the posts that you have assigned certain categories in your blog posts i.e. mine was hair and beauty. So obviously change yours to ones that are appropriate. It then allocates how many posts (mine was 10), the date (in descending order,) with a large image and an excerpt of the post)
this plugin sorted me out :
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-tags-and-category-to-page/
with the standard instructions :
Upload the plugin files to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress
Use the setting page of the plugin from Settings > Add Tags And Category For Page.
