Passing data to callback functions? - google-maps-api-3

var unique_interests = window.facebook_interests.filter((v, i, a) => a.indexOf(v) === i);
var input = map.getCenter();
var a = input.lat();
var b = input.lng();
var latlng = {lat: a, lng: b};
window.markersGP = [];
for(var i=0; i<unique_interests.length; i++)
{
var request = {
location: latlng,
radius: '500',
query: unique_interests[i]
};
console.log(request);
service = new google.maps.places.PlacesService(map);
service.textSearch(request, function (results, status){
alert(request.query);
});
}
Whenever the callback functions are called, the for loop has executed completely, and the alert() always prints out the last value in the array. Is there any way to bind the data with the function call?

You can apply IIFE pattern:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immediately-invoked_function_expression
So the code sould be like:
for(var i=0; i<unique_interests.length; i++){
var request = {
location: latlng,
radius: '500',
query: unique_interests[i]
};
console.log(request);
(function (req) {
var service = new google.maps.places.PlacesService(map);
service.textSearch(req, function (results, status){
alert(req.query);
});
})(request);
}

Code works in EDIT view and not SAVED page

My mission: Create a map from list such as :
When editing a SharePoint page (edit mode/view) the map throws no errors in the console. But as I go to view the final saved page the map I get this error in the console:
Event Page.aspx:668 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'get_current' of undefined
at retrieveListItems (Event Page.aspx:668)

This error points to this line :

How to draw different coloured polylines with direction service with snap to road feature

I am trying to render bus routes of bangalore city with snap to road feature provided by google api. If I just render single route, it is visible with the colour I mention for stroke color property of polyline.If the route is pretty long, then I am splitting the route into multiple paths for that route. But, when I add the second route, a polyline from the end of first route to the start of second route is drawn. I am not able to figure out, where I am going wrong. Any help is deeply appreciated. Please find the javascript code of the same.

You have two issues that are causing the issue.
the code is concatenating the paths from the directions requests together, that is an issue because:
a. the directions service is asynchronous, the routes may come back in a different order than you send them (unless you send them one by one).
b. the routes requested are not continuous.
for (z = 0; z < routePath.length - 1; z++) {
service.route({
origin: routePath[z],
destination: routePath[z + 1],
travelMode: google.maps.DirectionsTravelMode.DRIVING,
waypoints: waypts
},
function(result, status) {
if (status == google.maps.DirectionsStatus.OK) {
var snap_path = result.routes[0].overview_path;
var traceroutePath = new google.maps.Polyline({
strokeColor: routeColors[routeName],
strokeOpacity: 1.0,
strokeWeight: 2,
map: map
});
traceroutePath.setPath(snap_path);
} else alert("Directions request failed: " + status);

EDIT:
Everything worked as expected once I included the following script inline on the page prior to calling the maps.js file. Thanks everyone!
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
var latitude = 39.300299;
var longitude = -97.382812;
view_map('./uploads/your_xml_file.xml', latitude,longitude,4);
//scripts to handle mapping are in js/mylibs/map.js.php
});
</script>
Looking at the html and the code you provided above I constructed a fiddle for you:
http://jsfiddle.net/loanburger/qafsex5x/
I added two markers in an xml string at the top in the fiddle.
I basically parse the xml doing this:
var markers = $(xml).find("marker");
Its then simply the same for loop you had:
for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++)
{
...
}
The fiddle will show you the markers.

I have the next code which put some markers in a map from a xml file, every 5 seconds I call again the xml file and I update the position of the markers, but the problem is that the infowindows are not updated. Does anyone knows how to update them=
Here you have the code:
//<![CDATA[
var side_bar_html = "";
var gmarkers = [];
var map = null;
var markerclusterer = null;
function myclick(i) {
google.maps.event.trigger(gmarkers[i], "click");
map.setZoom(map.getZoom()+2);
}
function initialize() {
// create the map
var myOptions = {
zoom: 12,
center: new google.maps.LatLng(37.169619,-3.756981),
mapTypeControl: true,
mapTypeControlOptions: {
style: google.maps.MapTypeControlStyle.DROPDOWN_MENU
},
navigationControl: true,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"),
myOptions);
}
function getMarkers() {
google.maps.event.addListener(map, 'click', function() {
infowindow.close();
});
downloadUrl("vehiculos.asp", function(doc) {
var xmlDoc = xmlParse(doc);
var markers = xmlDoc.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker");
for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) {
// obtain the attribues of each marker
var lat = parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lat"));
var lng = parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lng"));
var point = new google.maps.LatLng(lat,lng);
var imei = markers[i].getAttribute("imei");
var alias = markers[i].getAttribute("alias");
var speed= markers[i].getAttribute("speed");
var timestamp= markers[i].getAttribute("timestamp");
var estado= markers[i].getAttribute("estado");
var conectado= markers[i].getAttribute("conectado");
var altitude= markers[i].getAttribute("altitude");
var angle= markers[i].getAttribute("angle");
var html="<b>"+alias+" "+speed+" km/h <br/> "+timestamp;
var marker = createMarker(point,alias+" "+imei,html,estado,alias, speed, timestamp, altitude, angle);
}
markerCluster = new MarkerClusterer(map, gmarkers);
});
}
var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow(
{
size: new google.maps.Size(150,60)
});
setInterval(function updateMarkers() {
google.maps.event.addListener(map, 'click', function() {
infowindow.close();
});
downloadUrl("vehiculos.asp", function(doc) {
var xmlDoc = xmlParse(doc);
var markers = xmlDoc.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker");
for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) {
// obtain the attribues of each marker
var lat = parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lat"));
var lng = parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lng"));
var point = new google.maps.LatLng(lat,lng);
var imei = markers[i].getAttribute("imei");
var alias = markers[i].getAttribute("alias");
var speed= markers[i].getAttribute("speed");
var timestamp= markers[i].getAttribute("timestamp");
var estado= markers[i].getAttribute("estado");
var conectado= markers[i].getAttribute("conectado");
var altitude= markers[i].getAttribute("altitude");
var angle= markers[i].getAttribute("angle");
var html="<b>"+alias+" a "+speed+" km/h <br/> "+timestamp;
var newLatLng = gmarkers[i].setPosition(point,alias+" "+imei,html,estado,alias,speed,timestamp,altitude,angle);
}
markerCluster = new MarkerClusterer(map, gmarkers);
});
}, 5000);
//finish updateMarkers
function createMarker(latlng, imei, html, estado, alias, speed, timestamp, altitude, angle) {
if(estado == 1)
image = '/artworks/icons/truck_green3.png';
else
image = '/artworks/icons/truck_red.png';
var textoLabel= alias+" speed: "+ speed+" km/h";
var contentString = html;
var newLatLng = new MarkerWithLabel({
position: latlng,
icon: image,
// map: map,
draggable: true,
flat: true,
labelContent: textoLabel,
labelAnchor: new google.maps.Point(40, 0),
labelClass: "labels", // the CSS class for the label
labelStyle: {
opacity: 0.50
},
zIndex: Math.round(latlng.lat()*-100000)<<5
});
google.maps.event.addListener(newLatLng, 'click', function() {
infowindow.setContent(timestamp + alias);
infowindow.open(map,newLatLng);
});
gmarkers.push(newLatLng);
// side_bar_html += '<a href="javascript:myclick(' + (gmarkers.length-1) + ')">' + imei +'<\/a><br>';
}
You are not assigning the event handler in the setInterval function, so no infowindows.
Add this code to the setInterval() after creating the marker
google.maps.event.addListener(newLatLng, 'click', function() {
infowindow.setContent(timestamp + alias);
infowindow.open(map,newLatLng);
This may result in a closure problem as you are in a loop. So you can do something like the solutions in this Passing values in for loop to event listeners- Javascript.

Cannot open google map marker from sidebar list

I am working with the v3 API and trying to recreate the Store Locator sample (which is v2). I like the way the v2 version works vs the same article changed for v3 API. I have everything working with one exception: when I click the location result it does not open up the marker in the map for that location. Here is my code. I think the problem exists in the CreateSidebarEntry() function. Any help would be greatly appreciated! (you can see it in action here: http://www.webworksct.net/clients/ccparking/partners3.php - just enter "orlando" in the search box and click search to get the results, then click a location in the list on the right...nothing happens).

return markers[markers.push(marker)-1];
works and keeps your markers array intact
I found the answer.
In this bit of code:
var marker = createMarker(latlng, name, address);
bounds.extend(latlng);
var sidebarEntry = createSidebarEntry(marker, name, address, distance);
sidebar.appendChild(sidebarEntry);
I was calling createMarker to populate the marker var. I found that it wasn't populating.
In the createMarker function, I needed to make a change so that the function returned a value: markers.push(marker); was changed to return marker; and voila!
