Is there any (smooth) possibility for multiple users to collaborate on a Twine project?
I've just been introduced to twinery.org, and thinking about the possibilities of using it to teach programming in basic school. My colleagues and I thought it would be an interesting project for pupils to collaborate on a story, making perhaps one passage each.
Can we do this in a smoother way than asking them to send their code to a teacher who adds it together and publishes?
Anyone with experience of this, or thoughts of how I can go about?
2 users will never be able to work on the same story cause of the pid field inside the HTML file. users would need to alternate before grabbing the latest changes. I withdraw my answer.

How's it going?
I've found a lot of more detailed answers relating to specific problems relating to RSS feeds, but I can't really figure out how you USE one, basically.
Could someone explain?
I see the RSS feed icon at the top of a lot of Wordpress sites, including my own, but when I click it, it just seems to be a long XML file. I don't know what to do with it, or even why it would be there.
How do you use this? Are you meant to hit it with an API request, or is there a particular kind of software that you use?

Before telling you what RSS, let me describe you a common problem that many people have.
Say there is a bunch of sites that you really like and it's sort of a
daily routine for you to go thru them. They may be a news site, your
friend's blog, but also craigslist bcause you're currently looking for
a new house and maybe a weather site to know how late you should stay
at work :)
The first thing you do when you get to work, is open your web browser
and these sites in new tabs. It's not particularly cumbersome because
there are just 4 sites. But think about it: maybe there is a new blog
that you start to like and ho, these cartoons are really funny. Maybe
there is also a bit of financial info that you're interested in and
the pictures that your brother is posting to Flickr every couple day:
they just had a new baby! Also, as you're trying to buy a house, you'd
love a little raise and you've figured that your boss really likes it
when you tell her that you've read about your company in the news or
when you tell her about a new competing product... There is also
StackOverflow. You're desperately trying to get this "expert" badge
and boost up your reputation: this may help with your boss too or even
when you're looking for a new job.
Opening all these tabs is starting to take a toll and you keep
forgetting an important one. You're also slowly getting tired of the
different reading experience that all these sites have: small fonts,
large fonts, ads all over...etc. Now you have a problem.
Imagine there is a tool that does the following: you can tell it what sites you care about, and then, this tool will look up the new stuff for you. It will show everything in a nice looking format. It should also help you identify what's really worth seeing ASAP or maybe have some kind of "serendipity" mode that you can go into and find interesting stuff that you would have missed otherwise. The tool will obviously send you to the original sites should you need more info about any particular story or classified...
This tool exists. It's usually called a Reader, mostly because it lets your read more things online. Often times you'll see them called "RSS reader", because RSS is what they use to get the information from all these sites. RSS is the pipe. You as a user should probably not know about it, but that's what the readers depend on. In an ideal world, when you're on site you like, you should just hit "follow" on a button like this one and then you'd be redirected to your reader of choice. Later when new content is added, you'll get it straight in your reader.
To get a bit into more technical details, RSS (like Atom) is an XML flavor. It's a collection (mostly reverse chronological) of entries. Entries have at least a title and a link to the actual story. They should also include a unique identifier and could have other elements like a description, an image, tags, author information... etc.
RSS is great because it's content agnostic. It can be used to represent a lot of different things (as described in the little story) and decouples the publishing platform from the subscribing platform: they don't even know the other one exists. RSS is their lingua-franca.

An XML file is all the content of a page, with no markup. The XML represents the data in its rawest, most descriptive form. Many readers can interpret XML sources from a variety of places, and format all of the data in its own unique way.
I'm planning to create a site for learning technologies, such as codeproject or codeplex. Can you please suggest to me the different ways to manage huge articles?

Different ways to manage articles while building the entire system yourself. Hmm, ok, let me give it a try... here's the short version.
There are several ways you can "store" your articles (content, data, whatever), and the best way to do so is to use a Database. (SQL Server, MySQL, SQLCE, SQLite, Oracle, the list goes on).
If you're not sold on the idea of a database, you can use any other type of persistent storage that you like. IE: XML, or even flat "TXT" files.
Since you're using ASP.NET you now need to either write your code behind, or some other complied code to access your stored data. You pull it out of the storage and display it on the page/view.
Last but not least, I'd like to give you a suggestion (even though it's not part of your original question). As the other answerers have stated, you should look at a pre-built CMS. If nothing else, to see how it's done (not necessarily to use it as is). My philosophy is quite simple, if you want to be productive in your development, don't bother reinventing the wheel just for the sake of it. If someone else has already build and given away exactly what you need, you should at very least give it a look and use what you can. It will save you piles of time and heartache.

i want to create automated web based book publication system.
My company is publishing reports which is written in words. & there is lots of hassel on formatting word document.
So we want to develop system where different users can loged into system then create different chapters & different parts within that chapters.
Can anyone suggest any opensource project or any guidelines to achieve the things mentioned above.
Some sort of wiki seems like the way to go in my opinion, you could set it up so users could only edit their own stuff pretty easily. There are some example ASP.NET wikis and other examples that might interest you on this page.
At the company I work for, we have an intranet that provides employees with access to a wide variety of documents. These documents fall into several categories and subcategories, and each of these categories have their own web page. Below is one such page (each of the links shown will link to a similar view for that category):

We currently store each document as a file on the web server and hand-code links to these documents whenever we need to add a new document. This is tedious and error-prone, and it also means we lack any sort of security for accessing these documents. I began looking into document management systems (like KnowledgeTree and OpenKM), however, none of these systems seem to provide a categorized view like in the preview above.
My question is ... does anyone know of any Document Management System that allow for the type of flexibility we currently have with hand-coding links to our documents into various webpages (major and minor , while also providing security, ease of use, and (less important) version control? Or do you think I'd be better off developing such a system from scratch?
If you are trying to categorize the files or folders in the document management system, That's not a difficult task. You only need to access to admin panel to maintain the folders or categorize the folders
In Laserfiche, You can easily categorize your folders regarding the departments and can also be subcategorized them
You should look into Alfresco. It's extremely extensible and provides a lot of ways of accessing the repository.

Well there are companies that make a living selling doc management software. Anything you can get off the shelf is going to be a huge time saver, and its going to be better than anything you could reasonably develop by hand.
I've used a few systems:
Sharepoint: although I hear some people don't like it, I didn't either ;)
HyperOffice worked really well for my company of around 150 employees and has all the features you describe.
Current company uses Confluence, I like it :) But its probably one of those tools whose pricetag isn't worth it, especially if you're only using a subset of its features like doc management.
I haven't used it, but one guy I know raves about Alfresco, a free and open source doc management system. I looked at its website, seems simple enough to use.
We also faced a similar problem. However version control was more on our priority and we did look into many solutions in and around. We found Globodox extremely easy to install and use and more important the support team was absolutely fantastic
Try Mayan EDMS, it's Django based, and open source, used it as a base and build the custom features you wish on top of it.

I have reviewed DashCommerce, nopCommerce and DotShoppingCart for possible use and all of them seem to not allow any way to do bulk product/category/manufacturer/etc imports from existing data (DotShoppingCart seems to allow it only in the paid version).
The company I work for has some 30,000 products that we would need to load, and at least a thousand categories or so. Obviously this is ridiculous to have to manually type in, and as I've stated before in previous questions the company is insanely cheap and won't pay for software, so I need a free solution.
I don't have the time to roll my own solution by following the ASP.NET MVC Storefront series, or else I would just do that; My boss seems to think creating an online store is trivially simple (I had slapped together a Classic ASP site a few months back but we recently changed our primary vendor so I can't use most of it; it was pretty much hacked together anyway and I can't really use it without reworking a lot of it for the new supplier) and I don't want to hear him if/when I tell him I need a couple of months; he's already waited 90 days since he has some SEO expert on retainer to start blogging/marketing it and doesn't understand that writing software takes time, it's not something that can be thrown together in a week or even a month.
Is there anything out there that can meet these requirements? In a pinch I guess I could install DashCommerce or something and interrogate the database schema it creates to force an import myself to give him a quick solution that he seems to want.
