I've seen some other people with the same issue on net,
but the solution that worked for them (updating the .htacess file), didn't go very well for me!
I used buddypress to migrate my wordpress site to my local pc, but after everything is setup, only the home page is working, other posts or pages are getting 404 errors, I also tried to deactivate plugins and changing the theme, but nothing worked.
I'm on windows 10 and i'm using wampserver 2.5.
I think that the issue is caused by Apache, but I don't know how to fix it!

Your site’s permalink (WordPress Admin > Settings > Permalink) is set as Default, please change it to any of the other option available below. e.g: Day and name, Post name etc.
Then you’ll be able to access the board instead of the 404 error.
Another way is troubleshooting:
WordPress sites can complicate the 404 troubleshooting process. Why? WordPress is a content management system that processes its own internal rewrite array as a part of its permalinks feature.
The first step to troubleshooting 404s is to figure out whether the 404 is being caused by the web server or by WordPress.
Static file
If your file is static (e.g. a jpg image) open your FTP client and verify that the file exists.
As an example, let’s say that the URL http://example.com/wp-content/uploads/picture.jpg is producing a 404 error. You will want to:
Open FTP Client and connect to your server (if you don’t know how to do so, read this.)
Navigate to the file’s location
Verify that the file exists
If it is does not exist, you have found the source of your 404.
However, it it does exist, yet pulling the URL up in a browser results in a 404 error, continue on to find out whether the issue is web server-based or WordPress-based.

I recently migrated my website to DigitalOcean under plesk panel using all in one migration plugin. I kept having issues with 404 error only for pages that used permalinks configured as %postname%. For better URL format for my Content. But now if I enable the permalink I keep getting 404 error.
I used the popular suggestion of editing the nginx conf file through (through putty).

I wasn't sure of the save and exit step given after using the editor. ctrl+X shows a set of ^O^D commands. I pressed ^O and restarted it.
Now my entire website looks broken. Due to many 500 internal errors. What am I doing wrong here? kindly help me out please?

I have looked at similar questions but still receive the redirect error.When landing on a homepage URL the site resolves and displays for example http://www.test.co.uk . When selecting any link ie. http://www.test.co.uk/products the browser throws a "Too many redirects" error and the site become unusable. The only way I can get it back up is by clearing cookies and cache and trying again. What I find really confusing is that copying the http://www.test.co.uk/products link or manually typing the URL in resolves the URL correctly and I don't get "too many redirects" error. It only happens when I select a link.
I have tried the following:
Renamed the "plugins" directory to "plugins1" to disable the plugins
Reverted to the default wordpress ".htaccess" file
Ensure the site settings URLS matched in wp-admin area
SSL is enabled on the site but not configured to be used anywhere, all links (that I'm aware of reference http://)
Checked any redirects on the hosting via CPANEL (none exist)
Added these to the wp-config file

define('WP_SITEURL','http://www.test.co.uk);
I'm not sure whats changed in the last couple of days but we think a plugin got updated. Would disabling the plugins prove that its nothing to do with plugins?I'm new to WordPress so apologies if I got some terms wrong.
Any suggestions I could try looking at would be helpful.

As much as may sound like a broken record - I changed the URLs on my WP site, and now I get a 404.
What I wanted to do:
Change site URL from www.SiteA.com to www.SiteB.com
All WP files were at the time in another directory in the same hosting account. I needed them in the root directory, accessible by www.SiteB.com
What I did:
Backed up locally and remotely - Database and files.
Edited URL's through dashboard on WP - got a login error afterward, but seemed to do it anyway.
Moed ALL old site files from root to backup folder.
Moed ALL wordpress files from original directory to root directory.
Then I got a 404 error and was unable to access WP-admin or login through the new or old URL.
What I tried to fix the issue:
Noticed http should be https - changed this in 'options' within phpmyadmin, both at 'siteurl' and in 'home'.
Still 404
Then I tried defining the db_name in the wp-config file.
Still 404
Then I gae up, changed the URL's back using myphpadmin, and moed the filed back to their original directory. Now I can login to WP as usual and eerything is fine.
Why can't I access the site when I moe it into the root directory - I thought I had all the steps right!

Wordpress stores url/permalinks on database field values as well, changing only the configuration files will not be enough.
I am pretty sure there are other options, on my case i use often perform Wordpress website migrations, and the following tool becomes really handy when search and replacing domains on the database records.

This happened to be an SSL issue where the host for our SSL certificate was conflicting with the stylesheet somehow. 0_o
I do not have a domain yet so I want to use a temp URL to access my Wordpress site. I have installed Wordpress as normal, changed siteurl and home in the MYSQL database to the new temp url, but all i get when i visit my site is 'Not Supported'.
I had setup previously setup another account with a domain and that worked fine. I have trawled the internet and cannot find anyone who has had this problem before?

I had the same issue. Turns out it’s a server configuration issue with Apache. You can confirm that is also your problem by placing an empty index.php in your home directory in the place of WP’s index.php. If you still get the error, that’s what is going on.

I was just working on a Wordpress site and after updating a plug-in (which had not yet been activated, only installed) I activated it. Instead of the activation working, it gave me this error:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete >your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster#ibsmithmedia.com and inform them of >the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the >error.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an >ErrorDocument to handle the request.
I am getting this error on every page of my wordpress site, not just the plugin page or my user admin area.
How can I fix this? Is there a way to undo this plugin activation (I'm pretty sure it's what's causing the issue).
I don't have access to the actual FTP files of the site, I'm working on it for a friend. But I can get access if that's the only way to fix this. Thanks!
I would get access and delete the plugin.
That would be the fastest solution.
I ended up having to delete the folder for the plugin and then going to my htaccess file and remove extra lines that the plugin had added there as well. That resolved the issue.
First you need to connect to your website using FTP client, or File Manager in cPanel. Once connected, you need to navigate to the /wp-content/ folder.
Inside wp-content folder, you will see a folder called plugins. This is where WordPress stores all plugins installed on your website.
Right click on the plugins folder and select Rename. Change the name of the plugins folder to anything that you like. In our example, we will call it “plugins.deactivate”. Once you do this, all of your plugins will be deactivated.
Usually, this method is used when you are locked out of your admin area. If the issue was with your plugins, then you should be able login to your WordPress admin area.
Once you do that, go back to your /wp-content/ folder and rename “plugins.deactivate” back to plugins.
Now you can activate one plugin at a time until your site breaks again. At which point, you will know exactly which plugin caused the issue.
