How to create Responsive Table with Search Feature on theme? - wordpress

We have built a web-site using twentysixteen wordpress theme.
I need a search box to search a responsive table. The below table works fine with search..

Now i tried to use a responsive table and provide the above search which doesn't work in the above theme

The table is responsive but unable to provide a search on the table.
How to provide a search for the above responsive table?
How to provide a fastest search like above where the table has nearly 2000 rows with seven columns?

Datatables search field is not sticky

I want to make the search input field of my data table sticky.

The data table header is already sticky, but not the search field.
For the sticky the data table, I used:
thead {
position: sticky;
top: 0px;
background: white;
That works, but not for the search field. "scrollX": true/false doesn't work.

You can apply a style to the DataTable global search box using the dom option.
Example:
dom: 'B<"sticky-wrapper"f>rtip'
Each of the Bfrtip values is explained in the linked documentation - but for our specific needs, the f is for the filter box.
This is wrapped in a class called sticky-wrapper using <"sticky-wrapper"f>.
The style (in my test example) is based on the one used in the question:

i want to layout two tables such that they don't fill the page and overflow to the next line using bootstrap and css. The 1st table with max-width:60% and second max-width:40%. It should be such that i can scroll on the x-axis and on the y-axis of each table. just like this
i have tried using the max-width property but the table seem to be overflowing to the next line

Datatables with Bootstrap 4 Looks Messy

When trying to use Datatables with Bootstrap 4 it doesn't look nice. I've tried to follow the basic example on the Datatables site and it still looks like it (see screenshot below).

Datatable doesn't work in wordpress theme - twenty sixteen

We have built a web-site using twentysixteen wordpress theme.
I have created a sample page with html content as below
The below html works fine when i saved in my local system and browse via chrome. However the same datatable is not rendering properly when i inserted in the word press page.

DataTables with Bootstrap's table-responsive always has small x-overflow

I am using DataTables and Bootstrap but always seeing a tiny bit of x-overflow on my tables, no matter how many or few columns I have. Screenshot:

You need to use a container. Wrap your markup in a div with class container or container-fluid.

The x-scroll occurs due to the .table-responsive class with combination of the DataTables plugin
The .table-responsive class needs be at the parent element of the table. This is true when looking at the HTML part but it is not true after the plugin has initialized, since DataTables adds a lot of additional markup.
A workaround for this is to omit the .table-responsive class in your HTML and add it using jQuery after the plugin has initialized.

Forget Bootstrap and use the DataTables' property, scrollX set to 100%.

The one caveat I've found is that the table must be visible on page load. If it's not, the thead element will be misaligned with the tbody.

Add .container-fluid variation for full-width containers and layouts.

it's a bad alternative, but it work.

I think Tasos K.'s answer pretty much sums it up. But there is actually an even better way to add the table-responsive div as a parent of the table. There is a dom setting that let's you define the order of DataTables components as well as additional HTML that should be inserted into the DataTables' markup.
The default value of the dom setting is lfrtip. This defines the order of the DataTables' components. Each letter represents a component (for example, the letter 't' represents the actual table). The letters are explained in the DataTables reference here: https://datatables.net/reference/option/dom#Options
You can also define additional HTML to insert into the DataTables' markup. DataTables has a special format to define how to add HTML. For instance, to wrap the table with a div with class table-responsive, you have to wrap the letter 't' with <'table-responsive' and >. The description of the markup format is explained here: https://datatables.net/reference/option/dom#Markup
When you use the Bootstrap integration, as is the case with the OP, the default value of dom is overwritten with a different value to make DataTables work with the Bootstrap layout. According to the online reference, the value of dom is changed to
