I have devolopped a responsive website with Twitter Bootstrap 3. However i have noticed that there is a scroll bar at the bottom of my screen due to a right space on the page. Even though i used
body {
margin:0px;
margin-top:0px;
padding:0; margin:0;
margin-right: 0;
}
I still have a right space and a scroll bar under my page as shown in the picture below
Please How to remove the right space from a bootstrap built website ?
i looked in to it what i think is, its the navigation bar which is causing it.
try reducing the px for nav bar. look at the picture , reduce the px from 1903 to 1980 may be !! let me know what happens
First of all, elements with classes articles_text2 and articles_text4 aren't placed properly, they create some extra space on the right. For example, you can set them left: 50%;. However, I'd suggest that you re-define positions for all articles_text elements because values like 57% and other look like some magic numbers taken from nowhere.
Secondly, you should remove padding: 0; from #full-width because it breaks Bootstrap Grid System. What I can suggest in order to remove left and right padding is to do the following trick:
[class*="col-"] {
padding-left: 0 !important;
padding-right: 0 !important;
}
It should help.

When i resize it to lower resolutions 400px width and less the horizontal scroll appears.
I think some element is forcing width bigger than actuall screen size but i cant find it!
Please help.

I checked your code,
You have to get rid of this code in your footer styles. Your margin-right is making your content overflow.
Try using padding, or something similar instead.
It appears you are using bootstrap for that.. So the best way to do this would be to overwrite this by creating a
#footer > div.row {
margin-right: 0 !important;
}
or if you have bootstrap locally then you can probably delete from there. But i just overwrite it using `!impornat
.row {
/* margin-right: -15px; */
margin-left: -15px;
}
This wordpress website http://www.sulu13.net/14 has a responsive logo and menu that I wanted centered in order to line up with the edges of the content below in the posts. So I added:
.tc-header .brand a { /* Logo */
position: relative;
left: 200px; }
.navbar .navbar-inner { /* Navbar */
position: relative;
top: 130px;
left: 380px; }
Upon adding this CSS, the screen gets a horizontal scroll bar and has white space (equal to the left: 380px) on the right side of the screen. Something tells me it has to do with the responsive menu button sharing the same classes, .navbar .navbar-inner as the non-responsive menu. I would change this, but my knowledge of PHP is limited so I wouldn't know where to start.
I've tried removing the JQuery menu itself, but this had no effect, (my guess is..) because I didn't actually remove the responsive menu button/menu.
Here's the main CSS file - http://www.sulu13.net/14/wp-content/themes/customizr/inc/css/green.css?ver=3.1.6
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks in advance for your time.

width:100% (default width) + 380px (left value) = 100% + 380px
You would need to resize the navigation to compensate for the moving over if you want it to leave it the way it is, meaning something like width:calc(100% - 380px);
However, I'd recommend not using absolute position to be more responsive and not require the manipulation of values.
Remove the left:380px
Apply this:
#menu-my-menu {
float:right;
}
This approach also allows more list elements to be added and they will automatically be positioned correctly
Use this:
.navbar .navbar-inner { /* Navbar */
position: relative;
top: 130px;
}
So, remove the left:380px. I don't understand what you mean by centering the menu and aligning with the text below, as the container of the text is wider than the one of menu and logo together and if you align the menu with the post below it will not be centered anymore. But removing left property should give you what you want.
Thanks for the help guys!
I went back and gave it a closer look, turns out I was able to solve the issue with a wrapper and a few media queries for width adjustments.
I wanted to using a flexible horizontal list menu, and I found one on github that came with a collapsing menu at a certain breakpoint. I didn't need the collapsing menu so I got rid of it. I've been modifying the menu to cater to my layout. There are a couple issues that I can't seem to figure out.
There seems to be a left margin to the menu that I want to get rid of.
On the right side of the menu, while shrinking the browser, the last menu item seems to get overlapped instead of pushed in.
I would like to reduce the margins between list items
Normally this wouldn't be a problem for me, but I've not really worked much in percentages.
.flexnav {
overflow: hidden;
margin: 0 auto;
width: 100%;
max-height: 0;
}
FIDDLE
Add padding: 0; to .flexnav style definition.
To remove padding just use css:
padding:0;
You mention "unwanted", so a tip from what I usually do is, at the top of the style sheet I write this out:
*{
padding:0px;
margin:0px;
}
This will remove padding and margin from all things that have padding or margin by default, so you will no longer have "unwanted" padding or margin, instead you can separately add padding and margin to things you actually want.
I use this approach on all websites I make.
Ok, if you go here: http://opportunityfinance.net/Test/2013conf/index.html
You will notice 2 layout issues
This image of the 3 logos needs to be below the "Gold" <h4> tag. But for some reason it won't do it. I have assigned the <div> tag a position of relative since there are other divs within it that need to align the images to the bottom, and this does it correctly, however, it now won't go below the <h4>Gold</h4> HTML.
Next Layout issue:
I have been trying like hell to get a footer on the bottom of the page. Sounds simple right? WRONG! But now that I got the div to be at the bottom, it seems to be cutting off the top area divs above it. So, not all of the content is showing. Instead it is being pushed underneath of the footer. How can I fix this? Tried to put a padding on it, but now sure where and/or how? margin-top on the footer doesn't seem to do anything either.
Any help on this is greatly appreciated. I have been struggling like hell to get this simple layout in order. It should be a fluid layout, as I'm resizing text down as the page resizes also, which seems to be perfectly fine, except for these 2 problems :(
EDIT
Here is a pic of what it looks like when applying the container div a 100 pixel height value:
It is giving it too much space between the <h4>Gold</h4> and the 3 images. Atleast this is the case in Opera. Any possible work-arounds for this?
here's a fix for one
.body {
background-color: #FFFFFF;
padding: 2em 2em 52px 0;
}
you have 3 logo's in one div, on that div add a height, for example
element.style {
height: 100px;
position: relative;
width: 100%;
}
Pretty basic stuff really, you should look into clearfix's here http://css-tricks.com/snippets/css/clear-fix/
When you add a float or position:absolute; to a div, in a way it gives up its reserved space so that causes the parent div to think that there isnt anything inside and therefor has no height, clearfix will fix these problems for you, reason i say is becuase the 3 logo's are all either floated or absolute;
this is the result i get
I have been trying for an hour to get a list in a sidebar of WordPress to have a negative margin. Fooled around with margins, padding, sidebar placement in the php files... But the link images just keep disappearing behind the background.
Here's the page where I'm working: http://kirahenschel.com/
This is what I am trying to achieve:
http://emgraphics.net/kira/idea2-11.jpg
Ideally I'd also like that sidebar to be a finite height so the white boxes on the bottom spread, but I can cope with them being off to the right.
Anyone have any ideas? Neg margins are working fine on the logo, so it is just a list thing?
Thanks
If you're merely trying to get the list to be bumped to the left, why not use a CSS positioning property? Negative margins can get really wonky, and are (most likely) unneeded in this application.
#nameoflistdiv {
left: -20px;
}
You may also need to change the value of your div's position element, but this will bump your div and everything in it left, overlapping the container div.
If that doesn't answer your question, can you post the HTML and CSS you are using? The CSS code
margin-left: -20px;
really should work in this application as well, so show us what you've got.
Your negative margin is working as expected. The reason the images are getting cut off is because you have set overflow:hidden on the #main container. If you remove that property your images will appear.
#main {
background: url("images/blend.png") repeat-x scroll center top #2765CA;
clear: both;
height: 630px;
overflow: hidden; /* delete this line */
padding: 0;
}
