how is it possible to return the static pages as well as the posts of an author on it's archive page?
Our website uses the static pages for the informative content and the posts pages for the blog area.
Thank you very much in advance.
Simply you can create a author.php page in your theme directory. Inside that page you can write simple WordPress loop and all your static content according to your needs .... In this way your author's posts will be showing up on this page ... for example you can go in this way .... let suppose we are writing this content inside author.php page;
<?php get_header();?>
<?php
//all your static code and loop content will go here inside according to nature of content ...like static content with in DIVs and php content inside php tags etc
?>
<?php get_footer();?>
Hope that make sense, for more info visit https://codex.wordpress.org/Author_Templates

I have used the Structured Data Markup Helper and now need to add my mark-up code. Do I add this to the main head section of the website or just the individual page head.
I assume this needs to be added to the specific page head but I'm not sure where to access this. I am using Wordpress and normally add mark-up to the child theme header.php file in my cPanel but this is for all pages.
if(is_page('home')){ ?><!-- home page with slug home
enter your schema code for homepage -->
<?php }
else if(is_page('career')){ ?><!-- career page with slug career
enter your schema code for career-->
<?php }
I have a working one page website I like to convert into multiple pages in wordpress.
I already successfully created a theme, converted the header, footer, css, js into wordpress, header.php, footer.php, and functions.php by following a tutorial.
Now I'm left with all my html content between the header and footer and want to cut that content up into multiple wordpress pages.
I can do "the_title(); wrapped in php" and make the content while loop to get the first page into a wordpress page, but from then I dont know what to do, to split the next lines of html into other wordpress pages.
You will need create some page templates for your theme. They will look something like this:
page-about.php
<?php
/* Template Name: About Page */
get_header(); ?>
... about page content
<?php get_footer(); ?>
page-contact.php
<?php
/* Template Name: Contact Page */
get_header(); ?>
... contact page content
<?php get_footer(); ?>
Then assign the template in the Wordpress admin, on Edit Page view to the corresponding templates you want to use. You select the template by the name you give it in the comments.
The actual file name of your templates matter. Some views in wordpress are assigned to templates simply by the name of the file. So you will want to use certain naming conventions like page-about.php. More info about templates: https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/basics/template-hierarchy/
I want to use a different header style for the home page than for inside pages of my site. Specifically, I want the header section to be less tall on the inside pages. Should I use a different header.php file for the home page? If so, how?
I'm having a hard time getting ideas using Google, so if anyone has a helpful link to the appropriate resource that'd be great.
WordPress has a home page boolean function is_front_page() (true if is front page otherwise false)
Add a class to the header/body/whatever parent so
<header class="header<?php if(is_front_page()){ ?> home_header<?php } ?>">
</header>
and simply reference the class in CSS.

First of all, I'm totally new to WordPress so please be patient :)
Anyway, I have created a custom theme with a bunch of pages, a menu and a startpage (index.php), and everything is working fine. I have also created a few posts and those are not working at all. I have created a small loop that display the 5 latest posts on the startpage as links with date, and they show up as intended, but if I click on one of the links the startpage just reloads. As the page has reloaded it displays the correct permalink in the browser address bar, but I'm still stuck on the startpage. Same if I try to preview my posts from WP-admin, it just display my start page.
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong here and I'm no php coder. This is the code I have in my page.php file, maybe there is something wrong with it?
<?php get_header(); ?>
<div class="content">
<?php while ( have_posts() ) : the_post(); the_content(); endwhile; // THE LOOP ?>
</div>
<?php get_footer(); ?>
there is a difference between posts and pages. Try to put this code into a file called index.php so it will work for posts too.
If wordpress cant find a page.php (this is for pages) or single.php (this is for posts) it will look into the index.php as a fallback.
those are the files - enjoy :)
1. style.css: your page styling goes in here.
2. index.php: acts as fallback if the specific php files are not found.
3. single.php: single posts template
4. page.php: single page styling goes here
5. archive.php: acts as archives template (by month, author,...)
6. searchform.php: style and configure your searchform here
... there are many more. here is a cheat sheet with page types / theme structure .If you need further information google for types followed by tutorial

How to change header in Wordpress Blog page and all Post pages only.
I want a custom header in Blog page and all single posts page.
Thanks
You can use conditional tags within Wordpress:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Conditional_Tags
Basically, you will need to create the content you want only for the blog and post pages and wrap this within the conditional tags:
P.S Don't forget to include the category, and archive pages - as well as the post pages.
is_single(), is_archive(), is_category()
<?php if (is_single()) { ?>
// This is a post page
<?php } else { ?>
//This is not a post page
<?php } ?>
Hope this helps.
To include different header for specific pages change get_header($name) function call inside templates and add $name attribute. Wordpress will load header-{name}.php if file exists, if not, default header header.php will be loaded. Check out template hierarchy for templates where you need to change get_header() function call ( single.php, page.php ).
