I have installed Wakanda Studio 11 build 11.195328 (and server) on my Macbook Pro/OSX El Capitan.
When i open the "School management" solution and try to display the onGet event code for a calculated attribute, i get an error window showing a message like:
The model.TimeTable.rec_type.onGet was not found
Clicking on the "OK" button does not close the window and I need to "Force Quit" Wakanda Studio to reopen it.
I think this is a bug, but i also would like to know if existing solutions need to be "migrated" to be compatible with the newest version of Wakanda.
I tested with School Management Solution and got the same error message when clicking the "+" icon next to rec_type attribute of Timetable class in model designer. But, I was able to close the dialog by clicking "OK". It did not go into infinite-loop.
School Management was written in WAK7 and it is compatible with Wakanda 11.195328. Meaning you can still deploy and run it in Wakanda studio and serve. The model API and structure however, have become deprecated. A brief introduction of model API and syntax can be found here.
School management is still fully functional in Wakanda 11. The only thing you need to do is add three users named: 'administrator', 'teacher', 'student' in Directory since the old directory is not supported anymore.
If you would like to continue development on School Management or solutions created from earlier versions, they will need to be migrated.

I have created a GitHub acct. I can use browser to login to this acct.
However, when I used the same credential on Visual studio 2017 with Git Extension in stalled to sign in , I got the below message:
Validation failed
How to resolve this issue. Is there anyone experienced the same issue as my?
Please help.
Thanks
If you click "Sign in with your browser" under the Connect To GitHub window from the VS Team Explorer, do you make sure that you could sign in your browser?
I create a new GitHub acct, I get the same result as yours (Validation failed)in my side if I use that extension in my VS, but if I visit it in browser, I will get the following result if I select the "Sign in with your browser" option.
But if your account was verified, it will work well after you create a new repository. I test it in my side, it works normally now.
Just recently uninstalled VS2017 RC and installed VS2017 RTM.
We have a Windows Service solution which includes a Setup project.
When I build this in Visual Studio 2017, somehow it's triggering something in the installer for Visual Studio 2013 (which we're still using), as I get this popup appearing:
It's fairly reproducible, but I have no idea where to start with this one.
Any ideas how to stop it happening?
It didn't happen before with the release candidate.
EDIT:
So, several VS2017 updates later, this problem had got a lot worse, as it was stopping me building the setup project completely. Previously I was able to click cancel as in my first screenshot, but at VS2017 v15.3.3, it wouldn't cancel, and if I let it run, it hung at:
So this forced my hand somewhat. I've accepted #PhilDW's answer as he led me straight to the main clue, but I'll also add an answer of my own with more detail.
As in PhilDW's answer, I checked the event log, and found this:
Detection of product '{9C593464-7F2F-37B3-89F8-7E894E3B09EA}', feature
'Visual_Studio_Professional_x86_enu', component
'{E3FF99AA-78B9-4A06-8A74-869E9F65E1FE}' failed. The resource
'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\URTInstallPath_GAC\' does not
exist.
A little Googling, and I found this MSDN blog entry:
Workaround
We are consistently seeing this issue caused by a missing directory,
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\URTInstall_GAC (or
%SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\URTInstall_GAC).
To work around this issue,
Open an elevated command prompt.
Type: mkdir %SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\URTInstall_GAC
Note that the folder name isn't the same as in my case. I didn't notice this initially, and creating the folder didn't cure the problem.
However when I created the actuall folder referenced by the event log message, the problem went away, and I can now build my setup project without messages about VS2013.
It's a repair of Visual Studio 2013 because Windows thinks the install is broken (registry entries or files not as in the original VS 2013 install). If you look in the Windows Event log, Application, there should be some MsiInstaller log entries that tell you the product (by ProductCode guid) and the broken component (by component guid and file or registry name). This might help identify what's going on, but not necessarily have a clue to a fix. If it's a setup project it might be a conflict with mergemodule Dlls or prerequisites, some of which come from the current SDK.
You don't say if you're letting the repair complete, in the case that it's just an isolated occurrence.
hoping somebody has run into this issue and knows a fix as it's driving me up the wall...
I mainly write web applications at my place of work and we've recently got our upgrade to Visual Studio 2015 Professional (Version 14.0.23107.0).
Since my first fresh install (and subsequent reinstalls) whenever I attach to a process to debug all my code windows disappear. If I click on the "Windows" menu bar item then I can still see those that have disappeared, but when I try to open them they refuse to appear.
If a breakpoint was get hit on one of those "missing" files then I would get the standard "browse to find source" window you often get when using 3rd party libraries.
What I have to do at the moment is place all my break points, close all my windows and then attach to my w3p.exe process. It's pretty annoying and I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this?
For reference, I'm using IIS 7.5.7600 on Windows 7 Professional on SP1.
Below is an example image of what I see when, on a brand new ASP.NET 4.6 project, when I place a breakpoint on the Index method in HomeController. If I click "Browse and find HomeController.cs" absolutely nothing happens.
Does anyone know what I can do to alleviate this issue?
EDIT: Also happens when debugging straight from Visual Studio using IISExpress
I am running Visual Studio Ultimate on Windows 7. Here is the description of my problem:
My VS 2010 had been running absolutely fine until today when it started giving error "External Component has thrown an exception" when I try to open a new website. Creating a new web application works fine though but I am unable to run any of them.
While trying to run the previously created websites/webapps, its giving error as "Unable to launch ASP.NET development server".
And when I try to debug the website/web app, I am getting error: "Unable to launch ASP.NET development server. An attempt was made to perform an initialization operation when initialization has already been completed".
Similar errors are coming when I try to open Windows Form Applications and other projects.
No errors are getting logged on event viewer and I cannot see any other error information apart from what is mentioned above.
I searched all over internet but no help. I have already trying un-installing VS2010 using the script at this link (provided by MS). But when I re-install VS2010, it still shows me same error. To my surprise, after re-installing VS still shows the previous project list in "Recent Projects". I really doubt if VS is getting uninstalled.
I am totally clueless and any help would be highly appreciated. I am left with no other option but to format my OS if I don't find a solution here :( Please do let me know if any other details are required...
It might be caused by an adding or extension that you've installed, maybe without being aware of.
there are several ways to deal with that - one is to get inside add in manager and remove/ deactivate them.
if VS can't load there is a flag that should do the trick.
check this link for instructions on devenv flags.
you can use: /ResetAddin or /SafeMode
Okay, this may be involved...
Anyway, I am trying to learn how to use ASP.Net.
The environment is like this:
Windows 7 Professional
Visual Studio 2010
SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition
I am trying to follow the article here:
Developing and Unit Testing an ASP.NET MVC 2 Application - CodeProject
So far, I have installed IIS, IIS7 Manager, SQL Server and have built the solution from the article successfully.
Then, I created a limited rights user on Windows 7 and added that user to the authorized users in the SQL Server Management Studio.
After much trial / error, I can successfully connect to the (attached) database in the solution folder from the article. This was confirmed by running cmd.exe as the test user and connecting to the SQL server.
Now, when I publish the app to the "X:\inetpub\wwwroot\~user\site" directory, the page loads and looks similar to that shown in the CodeProject article here:
Patient Maintenance Screenshot - CodeProject
Except that I do not have any records shown between the "Patient Maintenance & Search" box and the "Patient Information" box. When I enter info into the query boxes and submit, the results page only shows "no records found". Clicking the "Save" or "Reset" button does nothing in Firefox.
So, I fire up IExplorer and attempt the same. This time, the error icon indicates that there are "missing objects" or "expected objects"...
Anyway, I then go to the IIS7 Manager and change the "Anonymous Authentication"\"Anonymous user identity" to the test user.
As that does nothing for me, I then open "Authentication\Basic Settings..." and change the "Connect As..." user to the test user and successfully test the connection.
Reloading the page in the browser this time results in the Server Error: "The current identity (MachineName\UserName) does not have write access to 'X:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files'."
So, I go to change the permissions on that folder, but decide to pause because I am really frustrated. After finally getting everything installed / updated this morning / afternoon - I took a nice nap... then got up and started on it again, but not so well...
But, now I fear that I may be headed down a wormhole. I don't want to continue beating my head against this and (probably) going about this the wrong way.
So, does anyone have any good links to blogs / tutorials that deal with a step by step approach to setting up an ASP.net site?
TIA
Add the account to IIS_USRS and see if that helps. If by chance, that doesn't help, you will need to download a utility called process monitor.
