Vscode default website 500 error - asp.net

My apologies if this is something simple but I cannot seem to find an answer to this anywhere.
I've set up VSCode on my macbook, and used yeoman to scaffold a default website (without authentication). I can build the project fine, but when I run and try to browse to it I'm getting a 500 error.
There is no response data so I can't get any more information than that, and the fact that it's Kestrel server.
I've also tried browsing to /home and /home/index etc but nothing
I'm hoping this is something simple that other people have encountered, and that there's an easy fix...
Many thanks in advance

For anyone else who may run into this, frankly I'm not entirely sure what fixed the problem, but: * I uninstalled Xamarin, which I also had installed * I uninstalled mono * I uninstalled VSCode * I reinstalled everything EXCEPT Xamarin The only other thing I did, was that I assumed (since it isn't said anywhere) that .Net Next was included in VSCode, but I installed that separately So, not sure which of these steps fixed it, whether I didn't have .net next which was required, or perhaps there were mono conflicts between VSCode and Xamarin but maybe this will be useful for someone else

Dot Net Core Build Error on Publish - Targeted tag name cannot be null or whitespace

I'm suddenly not able to publish my dot net core project, having made no known changes, so this seems mysteriously frustrating atm... (compounded by consistent troubles with project build issues for months now, while using dot net core for my back end server).
When I go to publish, it fails and gives me the error message:
"Publishing failed."
Inspecting the logs, I see every single razor view has a warning or error ending with the same message:
"*.cshtml (-1): Targeted tag name cannot be null or whitespace."
And finally, the commandline error:
"C:\Program
Files\dotnet\sdk\NuGetFallbackFolder\microsoft.aspnetcore.mvc.razor.viewcompilation\2.0.0\build\netstandard2.0\Microsoft.AspNetCore.Mvc.Razor.ViewCompilation.targets(60,5):
Error MSB3073: The command ""dotnet" exec --runtimeconfig"
is spat out, leaving me without even enough of a hint to the problem to even know where to look.
Any ideas what kind of steps I can take to trouble shoot this sort of thing?
If I don't solve this soon I think it's the final straw with dot net core for me... I wanted to to like it... I really did... I've spent more time trying to make it simply build, (following everything by the book too!) than I've spent coding! The biggest headache was definitely the upgrade to dotnetcore 2.0... even with Microsofts instructions.
As I noted in commets I had the same issue as you. I didn't do any significat changes in codebase but suddenly encountered that msdeploy package is failing to built. At the same time rebuilding project in vs and via cli works fine.
It may sound very silly but I just removed obj and bin folders in my project and after then dotnet publish started working fine as before.
I had <Private>false</Private> under one of my References. Simply removing it fixed my issue. I got the idea from here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/46066976/1777780
If deleting bin and obj and restoring then publishing/running do not work for you, try removing anything that appears to be unneeded from your proj.

Entry point of ASP.NET MVC app is not being reached. IIS issue?

I got a new laptop at work and, ever since then, I have not been able to run either of the MVC projects I'm assigned to. They build, I've deleted them completely and got the latest version from source control several times. I'm running Visual Studio Premium 2013. I had installed 2012 first but, once I ran out of ideas, I uninstalled both and reinstalled. I did make the following changes to the IIS applicationhost.config file (which are required for our apps because we use certificates, etc):
<iisClientCertificateMappingAuthentication enabled="true">
and
<access sslFlags="SslNegotiateCert" />
The other two developers working on these apps have been through the same procedures with their new laptops and they're not having problems. Here's what I get when I run my app in Chrome (won't let me post a screenshot cause I haven't earned any rep yet):
This webpage is not available
ERR_CONNECTION_RESET
The connection to localhost was interrupted.
It basically goes instantly to this page. I have put a debugging stop in the Global.asax file at:
protected void Application_Start()
and it is never reached.
I've tried everything I can think of. A major problem is that I can't figure out what to even search for for a solution to this. I've Googled everything I can think of but the error is so vague and I'm not getting any exceptions. Please, please help. It's been going on more than a week. Thank you so much.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled IIS Express 8.0 and everything worked. Don't know why I didn't try that before.

How do i reset nuget and start afresh?

here's what's happening. within the last few days something happened to my solution that apparently broke nuget. when i go into package manager/installed and do a find on SignalR, nothing comes back as if SignalR wasn't installed when i know it is. when i go into manager/online and do the same, all the signalr libraries do appear but with green checkmarks next to them as if they WERE installed. but i have to way of uninstalling/reinstalling. this has been driving me crazy since i now can't seem to get a stable solution.
on top of that, running nuget commands from the console always result in a CommandNotFoundException. nothing works except get-help Nuget.
what i'd like to do is reset everything related to Nuget so i can reinstall those packages from scratch and hopefully fix the console commands.
any ideas?
I think this happened to me a few times. Go to the packages.config file that should be the root directory of your project and remove the insurgent (in your case the line with the package: SignalR). This will tell NuGet that the package was never installed.
Now you will be able to reinstall it through the repository, then uninstall it so everything is back to the way it was before you got into this mess. I am unsure how it is occurring.

How to install sts in correct way

Can someone explain me how should I install sts like some years back when I run some bash script and sts was installed ? With this new era when I just download sts and extract it to directory and run it I have a lot of problem. For example sometimes I can not open wsdl or xsd file in default editor and I need to use just text editor and so on. Here are error log of my sts:
http://pastebin.com/ePk7LnL2
I am using sts 3.6.3 download from this source: sts3.6.3
It looks like you installed additional plugins and it this looks like this caused a dependency issue between installed bundles. This disables certain bundles under the hood and that might cause the issues you describe.
I would recommend to download the latest STS 3.6.4 version and start with a test installation from scratch. Use that vanilla STS install to see what is working out-of-the-box and what not. If there is something not working, please file a bug at https://issuetracker.springsource.com/browse/STS. If everything works as expected, install add-ons step-by-step to figure out which install breaks something else.
That way we can find out what is going wrong and how to fix that specific problem then.
Hope this helps!

XCode 4.0 internal logic error. will updating to 4.0.2 help?

I'm running XCode 4.0 I'm getting that error:
Xcode encountered an internal logic error. Choose "Continue" to continue running Xcode in an inconsistent state. Choose "Crash" to halt Xcode and file a bug with Crash Reporter. Choosing "Crash" will result in the loss of all unsaved data.
and also when i click on the show details button it gives me this:

I get this error if I try create a new file or modify any preferences, If I do just about anything. Could it be the actual project, it doesnt seem to happen with other projects.
It ran fine till I tried to add the Facebook IOS SDK to my project and then XCode "fell over". I have since removed the facebook SDK and still it happens I also opened a previous version of my app and still the same error.
I've tried clearing all the cache and still nothing works, is it worth downloading XCode 4.0.2 to resolve this or are there maybe other options. I'm in South Africa and 4 Gigs of data isn't for free.
I guess updating XCode to the latest version is always a good thing but is it that much better than 4.0? If there are other options to fix or find the problem, I would prefer it.
Thanks
I tried everything I've seen under this heading to stop xcode from crashing when debugging a simple C project. I even completely reinstalled Xcode4.
Finally tried this and it stopped the problem.
cd to the xcodeproj directory and:
rm -rf project.xcworkspace xcuserdata
I believe what I did that led up to the long series of crashes is set a watchpoint on a variable. I'm uncertain, but it was nearly the last significant thing I did before Xcode started puking on my shoes irrevocably.
I fixed the problem, although upgrading to 4.0.2 didn't do the trick, what I had to do is create a new project, and transfer all my files and change all my build settings after this it ran smoothly ever since. Hope this helps someone.
I had the same issue with a project stored in subversion.
I removed project.xcworkspace and xcuserdata from the xcodeproj directory and I also removed all .svn directories.
Building worked fine after.
