I have configured the IIS / our web application in two Windows 2008 Server. One is working fine and the other one is facing User Rights / Security Issue.
Error Message from Server # 2 :
HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error
The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.
When i compared with Server # 1, i am missing the ASP.Net in the Server # 2.
I wonder that might cause the issue.
I was able to find the solution for the IIS Configuration Issue.
Go to Control Panel\Programs and Features
Click : Turn Windows Features On or Off
Under Server Manager : - Click Roles
Add Role Servers, Select Role Services - Check Application Development (ASP.Net) and continue the Installation.
This solved my purpose.

I have trouble with working my site on IIS Server.
I read and tried the recommendations from Stack Overflow and other sites, but without success.
When installing the site on the IIS Server Version 10.0.17134.641 (on the my local computer) the following error occurred:
enter image description here
During development everything all worked fine. And when I try to post a site on local IIS Server, such an error occurred. Home page show normal. But when I try to register or log in have error above.
I'm confused because:
1) The publication took place in the "Folder", on the IIS pointed the way to it.
2) I'm install: Runtime & Hosting Bundle 2.2.3 for ASP.NET Core/.NET Core on Windows from this site: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/thank-you/dotnet-runtime-2.2.3-windows-hosting-bundle-installer
And in the module of my site are present: AspNetCoreModule, AspNetCoreModuleV2
3) I'm set "Application Pool" for this site in IIS Server next:
enter image description here
4) I'm "Edit Permissions..." for this site where I added and allow all permissions for next users: IUSR, IIS_IUSRS to "Security"
5) Also turn on next Windows features: enter image description here
Site written on ASP.NET Core MVC 2.2 with Use Entity Framework Core also the same version
With what it can be connected?
With database connection?
Or with configure IIS Server?
Or configure Website?
Thanks:)
SOLVED:
1) I have to add: 'app.UseDeveloperExceptionPage();' in Configure method Startup.cs file my project - It's help to show more details for errors.
2) In Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio need create a new user in Security -> Logins (in the same nesting level as the 'Databases' folder). User must have name like your application pool in IIS Server. In Default database General tab set your using database. And then need to set for user next role: sysadmin in Server Roles
I;m getting this error message in my website when I try to use my website login screen.
An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
** Source File: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config Line: 284 **
**Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.6.1069.1 **
Note the following:
1. Other pages that do not require login are working fine
2. The customErrors is set to Off
3. The website is hosted through Plesk Web Host Edition
This is default IIS error page for all HTTP 500 errors.
By default IIS doesn't show real error to remote users.
If you can open this page from your server you will see actual error. I mean connect to server via RDP, open browser, open this website.
Or in Plesk 12.5 or above you can try feature Failed Request Tracing which generates detailed report of each error:
I have not dealt with classic ASP for over 13 years (and IIS and ASP.NET for a while as well) and today I had to move a classic ASP website to a new server - Windows 2012 with IIS 8.5 from Windows Server 2003 with IIS6. I copied the website directory onto one of the drives (the same drive letter as it was on the old server) and went to IIS Manager and created an application for that directory.
Locally I can access the application via http://localhost/AppAlias/Default.asp and it renders in IE but when I access it remotely via http://ServerName/AppAlias/Default.asp, it does not rende rin IE, instead I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error. When I open the same URL in Chrome, it renders just like it does when accessed locally.
I checked IIS settings on the server for ASP applications and under Basic Settings I clicked on Test Settings. Authentication uses Pass-through and it seemed fine but authorization had a warning mark on it. The message was "Cannot verify access to path E:\Pages\Test\AppAlias" and in details I found the following:
The server is configured to use pass-through authentication with a built-in account to access the
specified physical path. However, IIS Manager cannot verify whether the built-in account has access.
Make sure that the application pool identity has Read access to the physical path. If this server is joined to a domain,
and the application pool identity is NetworkService or LocalSystem, verify that \$
has Read access to the physical path. Then test these settings again.
I gave Network Service read access but still having an issue. Can anyone help?
I am trying to run an asp program in my windows 7 system but it is showing an error that
"HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized
You do not have permission to view this directory or page because of the access control list (ACL) configuration or encryption settings for this resource on the Web server."
Can you please tell me step by step about running the program?
Windows 7 is not intended for use as a server so it has some unforgiving security rules. Even with Windows Server out of the box, you need to open up your firewall, as the default is intended to be secure until you are ready to go live.
In IIS check that your site is public.
I have migrated our company web apps from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 R2. The are all .Net 2.0 classic web apps. They all seem to work fine, except when accessing any resource with a path starting with /Reports/...
In one app the physical path on disk is c:\Websites\app_name\WebService\Reports... In this reports folder PDF files are dynamically generated and written to disk. They can be accessed via a URL such as this:
http://domain_name/Reports/xxxx.pdf
where /Reports is a virtual directory mapping to the physical path above. This worked fine on 2003 server & IIS6 but on IIS7.5 & 2008 R2 I keep getting the following error:
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested URL: /Reports/xxxx.pdf
I have another web app that generates the reports dynamically and streams them directly to the client browser for saving to the local disk, rather than being written to disk on the server. Similar to the above example, the page that generates the report is found under path as follows:
/Reports/Viewer.aspx
In this case there is no virtual directory being used. The URL referenced in the browser is:
http://another_domain_name//Reports/Viewer.aspx
Once again I get the same error message as above... HTTP 404 - The resource cannot be found.
I have tried all the permission settings under the sun to try and get it working but to no avail. I've use built in accounts, created new accounts with permissions from very minimal right up to full admin rights. I've also played with the new AppPool Identities with no success. It doesn't seem to matter what permissions I set specifically on the directories, or the accounts configured for the app pool or basic settings on each website itself.
Once thing I have discovered though, is that whilst the browser is getting the HTTP 404 error, there is no record of this request appearing in the IIS log files for each website!! This is really confusing me, as I would definitely expect to see a failed 404 log entry on the requested resource.
Something else to note, I'm running SQL Server 2008 Enterprise on this machine with Reporting services installed and enabled. It's a stretch, but could there be some contention over the /Reports path in my websites vs something else running on the machine? I'm using different bindings/host headers for each individual domain and website running on the server.
Check Reports folder conflict. And remember, Google is faster than SO.
IIS gives 404 errors for more than just File Not Found these days - so it doesn't give away too much to attackers. Have a look at the event log (application), and also try accessing it from the server itself.
The other thing to check is that your IIS app pools are correctly configured - especially with the correct pipeline mode and .NET framework version.
At a command prompt, type:
netsh http show urlacl
See if there are any bindings with /reports/ --maybe a left over from a SQL Server Reporting Services install?
