how to float an image left within a paragraph - css

On the homepage of my developing ecommerce store just below the carousel, there is an image under the H1 "I Wish I Were Knitting..." that has a paragraph sort of wrapped to it.
I have applied a float class to the img tag which is located within the p tag. I have one line of text floating correctly by removing the bootstrap img-responsive class from the img tag.
Why won't the full paragraph wrap? I would put markup and CSS in this text here but because this code in question is part of a huge .asp system, I wonder if folks would please check out the markup and CSS with the Inspect Element on the page itself where you can see the other code and CSS around it.

I see you added class="floatleft" but you need to add the css float: left;. Tested using Chrome Dev Tools and it works :).
You can always add the class to your css using the following :
.floatleft {
float: left;
}
Then you will only need to change the CSS and not your HTML. Good luck!

I found my main error. It's an understandable error given the state of my development. Turns out I was editing the wrong css file. When I put my css in the correct file, everything worked. I'll examine your kind ideas and observations with appreciation. Yes, padding will help.

Top Margin / Overlay and Hiding Elements

https://www.insure.report/en
I need to fix the Updates widget to have a top margin so it isn't covered by the header OR I need the widget to load on top of the header, not behind it.
Then I need to hide the 'Submit an idea' link.
I'm still new to CSS and the Submit link uses several classes so I don't know which to set to display none.
Any help or guidance is appreciated.
Without seeing your html and css it's hard to be absolutely positive but I gave the id frill in dev tools a property and value margin-top: 20px and that seems to solve your first question in dev tools. Since you are using bootstrap, in your custom CSS stylesheet you'll probably want to add:
#frill {
margin-top: 20px!important;
}
For the submit link you could give that link a class, like class="hide-link" in your html and then give that class a CSS rule of display: none; like:
.hide-link {
display: none!important;
}
I configured it according to https://help.frill.co/article/75-adding-the-widget
It's not really the right answer because what I was seeking was not done. But I removed the top elements instead.

Why wordpress add inline CSS style to images automatically?

I have placed images on wordpress page templates without any inline style attribute but its seem wordpress automatically add style tag with width and height set to zero.
<img src="wp-content/themes/ecoblog/images/hiw-image-1.png" style="width: 0px; height: 0px;">
Sometimes height is set to its original dimentsions and sometimes after complete refresh its values are zero.
What is causing this?
Please help me out. Thanks in advance.
Maybe it is caused by incorrect CSS. Zero values should not have dimensions, like px or pt. Like this:
<img src="wp-content/themes/ecoblog/images/hiw-image-1.png" style="width:0; height:0;">
this is because of template CSS styles are override your image style properties ..,the easy way is to wrap your image content and give div id and put your style code in template CCS file
inside(style.css)
it works as:
.class{
width:20px !important;
height:20px !important;
}
or if you want to remove Inline CSS completely , This inline css may be in .php files or in.js files.
You can search style in whole project , it is easier to search if you are using netbeans code editor.
Hope it may resolve.

How to override stylesheets - Joomla

I'm struggling with a property that is defined in 3 stylesheets:
Joomla.css
My Site's Template.css
Content extension using K2.css
The problem is that I need to align a toolbar to the right. The property text-align is correctly defined in the K2.css but is ignored and rather the one in the joomla.css is loaded.
I attached a screen shot that shows the issue.
Any idea what am i doing wrong and how could I override this property just for one container?
Thanks in advance.
Eyal
For such special cases I used to define an style with !important and use it where ever I have to override.
CSS
.text-align_right {
text-align: right !important;
}
HTML
<div class="itemToolbar text-align_right">
..
Also, if you view the source of the page, you'll see the order in which the style sheets get added. Evidently joomla.css is further down the source than k2.css
If there are a large number of these cases, you might like to edit your template html and put joomla.css right at the start of the head section. If that is added dynamically, though, look at the nonumber extension 'Rereplacer' which should be able to switch the order around with a bit of work.
Add your css rule to the bottom of K2.css
When you create the menu in your module manager, assign it a class. Then you can set the style for that class in your template.css file.
Best,
Cynthia

Is there a way to limit a css to only apply to what is in a content area and not the entire page?

Is there a way to limit a css to only apply to what is in a content area and not the entire page?
I have an ASP.NET 4.0 app. I obtained some from someone else that I don't understand (It's javascript and uses a css). By his instructions, I put it on the page to style a list (UL). All of this occurs within a content place holder. However, now some UL's on the MasterPage are also being affected by this style.
Is the content placeholder an html element - if so you can add a class or id to that and use it to limit the css styling for your ul's to only those in the "main" section. If not, you may need to wrap your content in an extra div:
e.g.
<div id="main">
<!-- content here including the ul -->
</div>
then the css to style that is:
#main ul
{
// styling here
}
As Kris says, you can use an id selector. This is "The right way" to do it.
If that won't work due to your constraints (running impenetrable mystery code), you may need another option.
Fortunately, the kludge is pretty straightforward too: put the app in an iframe and host it from a separate, blank page.

How to style content of pages without adding css class to element?

I use CMS for client and client doesn't know CSS he use WYSIWYG editor to put content in pages. Client adds Paragraphs, images, images in paragraph (left or right floated), ordered and unordered list, Tables. Problems comes when he want to add images in paragraph (left or right floated). and without adding css class it's not possible. And i don't want to add <div> in content because WYSIWYG editor can't manage div and client works in WYSIWYG mode.
How to style content of pages without using css class?
You will need your user to add a CSS class/style attribute to the image somehow - without adding something to the image to tell it to float right or left it won't float right or left.
If your question is how the client can add the class without having to manually edit the HTML I reckon the only way is to dive into the WYSIWYG editor's javascript and write something a bit like this towards the end of the image-adding process:
var alignment = prompt("Type l to align the picture to the left, and r to align the picture to the right","l").strToLower();
if(alignment == 'r')
{
//line of code to add class "right" to the image tag
} else {
//line of code to add class "left" to the image tag
}
What the code to add the classes should depend on how the WYSIWYG editor works
You can try using element selectors or ID selectors to add styles to HTML elements without referencing CSS class in them.
Element selector would add border to all images on the page:
img { border:1px; }
ID selector would do the same only to image with ID 'image1':
img #image1 { border:1px; }
Still you will need to reference the stylesheet from your page.
There are lots of different ways you can make CSS Selectors that don't require CSS classes. For example, to make a rule that applies to all img tags inside p tags, you could write this:
p img { float: left; }
But how are you hoping to determine which images need to be right-aligned and which images need to be left aligned? Does that data exist in the document in any machine readable format?
A WYSWYG should have "align" property for an image (at least those I have seen). You can then use CSS attribute selector img [align=left] { float:left; } or img [align=right] {float:right;} This wont work on IE 6,7 though, you can use JavaScript to mimic this for those browsers.
