This query returns 1.7763568394002505e-15 when it should return 0.00:

It's looks like a classic floating point calculation issue, but how can I fix it?
I've tried casting the various columns to REAL but it doesn't make a difference.
You can simulate the result using this query:
SELECT 26.3 - 10.52 - 15.78 AS Result

SQLite's REAL isn't suitable for currency. SQlite doesn't support SQL decimal or SQL numeric data types, so your best option is to use integer, and store values as cents.

Casting to a more appropriate data type (not to REAL) will hide some problems--maybe even most problems or even all of them in a particular application. But casting won't solve them, because stored values are liable to be different than the values you really want.

Mike Sherrill is correct in that you probably should use integers. But for a quick-and-dirty fix, you can wrap the Sum call in a Round(__,2) to round to the nearest cent.

Window function lag() in trigger uses default instead of previous value

I'm trying to create an SQLite trigger to update balance for a particular account code.
accounts table :

When a new row is inserted I want the balance value of the new row to reflect OLD balance + NEW amount. But this trigger does not recognize the lagging balance value and I cannot figure out why:

The query:

lag(balance, 1, 0) OVER (

returns as many rows as there are in the table and SQLite picks the first (whichever it is) to return it as the result so that it can use it to add NEW.amount.
There is nothing that links this value to the specific row that was inserted.
Instead, use this:

The subquery returns the previous inserted row by ordering the rows of the specific code descending and skipping the top row (which is the new row).

Sqlite Returning Random SUM value

I have an SQLite database, with 3 different tables. Trying to get a sum value of them (well actually, the sum of one table, less the combined total of the other two). This is the SQL Statement:

The first statment:
SELECT coalesce(SUM(amount * -1), 0.0) as amount
FROM transactions
WHERE category_id = 7
returns: amount -15811.54
Second statement:
SELECT coalesce(SUM(amount), 0.0) as amount
FROM pending_transactions
WHERE category_id = 7
Returns: amount 0.0
And the third:
SELECT coalesce(SUM(amount), 0.0) as amount
FROM transactions
WHERE category_id = 7
returns: amount 15811.54
But, when I run the whole thing, I get:
SUM(amount)
1.81898940354586e-12
What could possibly be causing this???
Database definitions for all 3 on the amount column are:
"amount" numeric NOT NULL
Looking at the post #forpas shared in the comments. Adding a ROUND(SUM(blah), 2) fixed the issue for me.

Single insertion of data on one date in SQL Server?

With this query we insert 9 rows at a time but what I want is in one same date do not insert again different details. How can I please help me.
Add a unique constraint on the column [date]. That will prevent you from adding more than one row with the same [date] value.
Update:
To allow 9 rows for each date you can add a computed column D that removes the time part and you need to add a column that will hold the values 1 to 9 R. Use a check constraint on R to only allow 1-9. Finally you create a unique constraint on (R, D).
Sample table definition:

Try with this:

First and second insert works fine, the third raises a unique constraint exception.

How to convert the Long value to String using sql

I am doing a long to string conversion using java in following way.
Long longValue = 367L;
String str = Long.toString(longValue, 36).toUpperCase();
this is returning me as value A7. how can achieve this in doing oracle sql.

Hi, I have analyzed how java code is working then wanted to implement the same thing in procedure.
First point is Input vaues. LONG and Radix. in my case Radix is 36. so i will have values from 1..9A...Z0 It picks up the values from this set only.
Second point Long value as input. we have to divide this value with radix. if the quotient is more than 36 again we need to divide.
For eaxmple 367 then my converted value is 10(quotient) 7(remainder) that is A7.
3672 converted value is 102 0 i need to do again for 102 that is 2 -6 so my final value will be 2-6 0 that is 2U0(- means reverse the order).

Using oracle built in functions we can do this. this was solved by my friend and gave me a function.I want to thank my friend. this will give me an out put as follows.
367 then my converted value is 10(quotient) 7(remainder) that is *A*7.(I modified this to my requirement).

IN PL/SQL (or Oracle SQL) you have the a function called TO_CHAR.

It is not possible to do it in the pure SQL. You have to use PL/SQL.
Simple example how to do it PL/SQL:

There is TO_LOB function but it can only by used when you insert data into table.

You can apply this function only to a LONG or LONG RAW column, and
only in the select list of a subquery in an INSERT statement.
There is also other, more proper way to do it by using "dbms_sql.column_value_long" but this gets complicated (fetching of the LONG column and appending to the CLOB type.)

Create a table of student IDs. Fill it up with IDs between X and Y. Every time you want to use an ID, remove it from the table.

The persisted predeterminer order speeds up generating new IDs.
BTW, if you're tempted to 'optimize' the table and go by a numbers table:

just don't. The requirement to randomize the set is a performance killer and the join to eliminate existing (used) IDs is also problematic. But most importantly the solution fails under concurrency, as multiple requests can get the same ID (and this increases as the number of free IDs is reduced). And of course, the semantically equivalent naive row-by-painfully-slow-row processing, like your original code or Kaf's answer, have exactly the same problem but are also just plain slow. It really worth testing the solution when all but one of the IDs are taken, watch the light dim as you wait for the random number generator to hit the jackpot...
