How can I use the attribute expanded when I style it using CSS?
I got a dropdown which is
expanded="false"
and when it's open it becomes
expanded="true".
There is no class so I was wondering if I can use that attribute for styling?
Thanks
div[ expanded="true"]{
color:red;
}
<div expanded="true">huujioujo</div>
Yes, you should be able to:
div[expanded=true] { color: red; }
However, there isn't a expanded HTML attribute that I know of? It would be better to just add the class .expanded instead of using expanded="true".

How to customize the Semantic UI buttons(background-color, border-radius and all)
<button class="ui button create-new-menu-btn">Create New Menu</button>
. create-new-menu-btn {
border-radius: 0;
background-color: red;
}
The above code is not working
You need to make your custom properties more specific than the ones semantic is using. How specificity works (simply) is that when there are competing property values on the same element, the one that is more "specific" is chosen.
Read this to know more about CSS specificity: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Web/CSS/Specificity
For your particular problem:
One way to make your custom CSS more specific is to use an id in the body tag of your page and use the following selector:
Method 1
#bodyid .create-new-menu-btn {
//Properties
}
Another way is to simply add an id to the element you want to select
Method 2
#create-new-menu-btn {
}
Method 1 is preferred when you want to apply the properties on multiple elements (hence the use of a class) (Like multiple comment buttons on a page)
Method 2 is preferred when there is a single element to be selected. (Like a login/signup button in the header)
You can also add semantic ui's classes before your own for specificity.
For example : if your className is .create-new-menu-btn you can add in css or scss before ui.button or any other semantic ui specific clas that you neeed. So in the end, your class definition in css would look like this:
ui.button.create-new-menu-btn {
....
}
If using JSX, you can use inline styling for the targeted elements
Example:
<Button style={{backgroundColor: 'red', borderRadius: 0}}> View Created </Button>
#bodyId .ui.create-new-menu-btn {
border-radius: 0;
background-color: red;
}
It will target all button with ui class.
Hope It will be useful :)
Put .ui.button infront of your class name create-new-btn. It should look like below
.ui.button.create-new-btn {
//Your css code
}
Then in your html/jsx template you can use the class name create-new-btn like below:
<Button class="create-new-btn"/>
or for Jsx
<Button className="create-new-btn"/>
I have this label within website:
<nav class="exodus-nav-left-right exodus-content-block exodus-content-block-compact exodus-clearfix">
for example want to add the rule to be met in this condition is:
visibility: hidden;
as I have to put in the CSS file?
Thank you for your help
First of all it seems that its not a "Label"
and if you want to hide element, you can do so by using the display property.
.exodus-content-block {
display:none;
}
If there are other elements with same class then you can narrow down your rule by using the whole class attribute value as below..
.exodus-nav-left-right.exodus-content-block.exodus-content-block-compact.exodus-clearfix {
display:none;
}
you can use the inline styling.
example
<nav class="exodus-nav-left-right exodus-content-block exodus-content-block-compact exodus-clearfix" style="visibility:hidden">
Or you can write as css class and add in the code
<style>.hiddenvis{ visibility:hidden}</style>
<nav class="exodus-nav-left-right exodus-content-block exodus-content-block-compact exodus-clearfix hiddenvis "/>
but you got to make sure other classes used here do not override your hidden functionality
I'd like to know if there's a way to apply the same styles to IDs that start with the same workds.
For example, I have #youtube_gallery_item_1, #youtube_gallery_item_2,....and the number keeps increasing, so I can't add a new ID every time I add a new item. FYI, I'm working with Wordpress and YouTube SiimpleGallery plugin.
I'd appreciate your help!
The "starts with" selector in CSS3.
div[id^=youtube_gallery_item] {
}
Note that this doesn't work in IE8 and below.
What would be a better idea would be to assign all of your #youtube_gallery_items a class, and then assign styles to that class. I'm sure that the plugin that you're using is doing this. Look at the source code, and if you see that they all have the same class, use:
.name-of-the-class {
}
You can use an attribute selector:
[id^="youtube_gallery_item"] {
color: skyblue;
}
http://jsfiddle.net/p9Ya8/
I would suggest adding a class
.youtube_gallery_item {
background: ;
width: ;
...
}
Its compatible with all browsers and is the easiest way to get around.
<div id="youtube_gallery_item_1" class="youtube_gallery_item"></div>
<div id="youtube_gallery_item_2" class="youtube_gallery_item"></div>
<div id="youtube_gallery_item_3" class="youtube_gallery_item"></div>
I have a set of div whose visibility is set to either hidden or visible. Based on this css visibility property i need to add the css property on those div, like
<div class="div-class" style="color:#ff0000; margin: 0px 10px; visibility:hidden;">
[Block of Code]
</div>
Now i need to define the following in style.css file.
.div-class:visible {top:10px;left:50px;}
.div-class:hidden {top:0px;left:0px;}
Is this possible???
yes with css attributre selectors you can do it
try the below css:
.div-class[style*="visible"] {
color: green;
}
.div-class[style*="hidden"] {
color: red;
}
What you are trying to do is not "really" possible.
I mean it's ill thought by design in the first place.
Even Vamsikrishna's solution might not work as expected.
If you set the overflow property to hidden via javascript or inline styles, the .div-class[style*="hidden"] rule will apply since the style attribute will contain the hidden string.
Moreover , setting inline styles on html elements is bad practice itself in most cases.
I suggest you try and learn css principles a little more.
I'd do the following:
HTML
<div class="div-class div-hidden">
[Block of Code]
</div>
CSS
.div-class {color:#ff0000; margin: 0px 10px; top:10px;left:50px;}
.div-hidden {visibility:hidden;}
.div-class.div-hidden {top:0px;left:0px;}
Then you can use javascript to toggle the "div-hidden" class.
You can do something using attrchange - a jQuery plugin ,
like this:
Add "attrchange" script into HTML page like
In Javascrip catch event
var email_ver_input = $("input#email_ver_input.verifyInput");
email_ver_input.attrchange({
trackValues: true,
callback: function (event) {
if (email_ver_input.is(":visible")){
$("#inputcode_wrap").show();
}
}
});
I have a Submit Button like this:
<input type="submit" data-corners="false" id="code_check_button" tabindex="5" data-rel="external" value="GO">
which - with a custom css theme - outputs this: http://sht.tl/59y3m
Now I would like to use the id (#code_check_button) to style the button with more specificity.
Unfortunately jquerymobile automagically transforms the input type submit in a snippet of code I cannot control: http://sht.tl/cQq
As you can note, the original button ID is useless...
Can you tell me how may I custom style that button (of course, without wrapping it in an extra tag...)?
Thank you!
Numerous ways this can be achieved..
Here are a few examples:
submit {
styles:styles;
}
Not the most compatible in older browsers:
input[type="submit"] {
styles:styles;
}
Then you can target the ID:
#code_check_button {
styles:styles;
}
In your stylesheet add the ID #code_check_button and provide the desired style you want.. see example below :-
#code_check_button {
your desired style properties here...
}
EDIT:
You can use the class of the generated div and style the button accordingly. In this generated snippet you have two elements to style. please find below :-
.ui-btn {
style properties here...
}
.ui-btn .ui-btn-text {
style properties here...
}
CSS
#code_check_button {
color:#000 !important;
width:200px !important;
}
You can see I have added !important tag in all the css properties. This is because of overwritten the jQ mobile default styles.
If something keeps changing your intended css into useless code, this may be a situation where you would resort to simple text (eg. nano for mac or notepad for windows) Web design programs are double edged swords, most of the time the bells and whistles on these programs help make things easier, but sometimes they can make things more complicated. To custom style a button all you have to do is put your id or class selector name in the input tag and then enter the css for it. For example
CSS
#code_check_button { background-image: url(/*desired image url*/);
background-color: /*desired background color*/;
color: /*desired font color*/; }
HTML
<input id="code_check_button" type="submit" name="submit">
Just try it in notepad this time.
