I am trying AWS r3.4xlarge instance with RStudio Server Amazon Machine Image (AMI).

With 122GB RAM and 16vCPU I thought that R would be really fast with medium-sized datasetes. However, R uses only 8.3 GB when I run rpart() on dataset with 10M rows and 21 columns (german data replicated 1,000 times)

The site will be used for a web-based game.
The tables were all using MyISAM.
I converted all of them to innodb and it works fine.

Will you have thousands of tables? Why? Even if you do have that many, these are caches, hence they don't have to be big enough to handle everything.
For better performance turn on the slowlog with a low value such as long_query_time = 1. After a few hours, use pt-query-digest. More on the SlowLog

R error: C stack usage too close to limit on small dataset

I have just done a clean install of R on Ubuntu 18.04, and it does not really work.
I can do stuff like make vectors and dataframes, and get summaries. I can also make a histogram with the hist command just fine. However, the plot command does not work.
The following code, which is very basic and should work just fine:

runs for about 30 seconds, before giving the following error:
Error: C stack usage 7970244 is too close to the limit
I have seen lots of posts of other people having the same error, but it seems to be because they are dealing with large datasets/lots of recursion or something like that, but I have this problem even with a dataset of just 3 values. R should definitely be able to handle this without me increasing the limit, and it should not take 30 seconds to run.
Does anybody know what the problem could be?

This is plain R in the terminal, not through any IDE.
Edit 2:
I have discovered that it works just fine on other user accounts on the computer. I've also started getting other weird issues (after a reboot I have to login to a Gnome session, then log out before I can log into plasma, but other users don't have that problem, sometimes the terminal can't launch, lots of things are crashing, etc) so I think this has nothing to do with R and is much bigger. Unfortunately, it might be a hardware issue (this computer has had wacky issues before on other operating systems).

ApacheBench gets "Connection reset by peer" from Go server only with "-race" flag

I have a minimal Go HTTP server (code below). When I start the server with go run server.go and then fire off 5000 concurrent requests using
ab -c 5000 -n 5000 http://localhost:8080/
everything works as expected. However, if I start my server with the race detector flag:
go run -race server.go
then I get an issue running ApacheBench even with only 1000 concurrent requests:
apr_socket_recv: Connection reset by peer (54)
Interestingly, my Go server doesn't crash or print any error messages, and is able to continue receiving new requests. This suggests that the problem is not the Go process running out of memory because of the "-race" burden.
Additional details:
I'm running Go 1.10 on a Mac
ab -V tells me I'm using Version 2.3 of ab (default shipment with Macbook, and it looks like ab has been dropped from brew).
If I run ab with the -r flag so that it doesn't exit right away, I get the output: Test aborted after 10 failures. So it seems like my Go server must be dropping connections rather than queueing them up...

Openstack Instance does not use the entire hard disk

I created new vm instance using "Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) - 32 bits" image and m1.small falvour which has 20 GB Disk (OpenStack Icehouse). When i logging to the vm and run df -h , I found that the VM does not use the entire assigned HD. The command results are shown as the following:

I need the vm to take the full space assigned to it. Any idea how could I fix it? I want the solution to be applied on each vm I create, so I do not want to manually update the VM after instantiation. I also must use 10.04 image ( can not upgrdate to 14.04)
The problem here is the image. I grabbed that one and ran it up, it's pretty simple to run a
sudo resize2fs /dev/vda1
which will resize the filesystem to the size of the partition, which seems to be 2GB. Beyond that, you have to increase the partition size. For that I think you're probably best off using virt-resize, there are some good howto's out there e.g. askubuntu, in essence:
SSH into your openstack controller node
source keystonerc_admin (or whatever yours may be called)
nova list --all-tenants | grep <instance_name> or just grab the server guid from horizon
nova show <server_guid> and note which nova host your machine is running on. Also note the instance name (e.g. instance-00000adb)
SSH into that nova node
virsh dumpxml instance-00000adb and look for the image file. On mine, this is /var/lib/nova/instances/<server_guid>/disk but that may not always be the case?

NB - mine didn't quite work when I booted that up again, not got time to investigate yet but it can't be far off that, and hopefully this helps.
Once you've managed to boot that up again, then you can shut it down and create a snapshot from horizon. You can then use that snapshot just like any other image, and launch all subsequent VMs directly from there.

Scaling nginx with static files -- non-Persistent requests kill req/s

Working on a project where we need to server a small static xml file ~40k / s.
All incoming requests are sent to the server from HAProxy. However, none of the requests will be persistent.
The issue is that when benchmarking with non-Persistent requests, the nginx instance caps out at 19 114 req/s. When persistent connections are enabled, performance increases by nearly an order of magnitude, to 168 867 req/s. The results are similar with G-wan.
When benchmarking non-persistent requests, CPU usage is minimal.
What can I do to increase performance with non-persistent connections and nginx?

First, HTTP Keep-Alives (persistant connections) make HTTP requests run faster because:
Without HTTP Keep-Alives, the client must establish a new CONNECTION for EACH request (this is slow because of the TCP handshake).
With HTTP Keep-Alives, the client can send all requests at once (using the SAME CONNECTION). This is faster because there are less things to do.
Second, you say that the static file XML size is "small".
Is "small" nearer to 1 KB or 1 MB? We don't know. But that makes a huge difference in terms of available options to speedup things.
Huge files are usually served through sendfile() because it works in the kernel, freeing the usermode server from the burden of reading from disk and buffering.
Small files can use more flexible options available for application developers in usermode, but here also, file size matters (bytes and kilobytes are different animals).
Third, you are using 16 threads with your test. Are you really enjoying 16 PHYSICAL CPU Cores on BOTH the client and the server machines?
If that's not the case, then you are simply slowing-down the test to the point that you are no longer testing the web servers.
As you see, many factors have an influence on performance. And there are more with OS tuning (the TCP stack options, available file handles, system buffers, etc.).
To get the most of a system, you need to examinate all those parameters, and pick the best for your particular exercise.
