Working with NSData in swift - pointers

So I've figured out how to extract NSData in swift but i'm getting confused with regards to setting it:

So if i want to access a specific byte I can get it with something like:
let targetAddress = UInt32(bytes[2]) << 16 |
UInt32(bytes[3]) << 8 |
UInt32(bytes[4]) << 0
Now say I wanted to set a value with something like:
bytes[11] = UInt8(UInt32(bytes[11]) | 0x0FF)
I get an error of Cannot assign the result of this expression). I tried also using &bytes[11] which doesn't seem to fly either.
I'm assuming this is because the array uses an unsafe buffer pointer. Is there an easy call that I've some how glossed over to make the assignment work correctly?

If you want to modify the bytes retrieved from the NSData
object, then you should copy the bytes into a separate array

msgData.getBytes(&bytes, length: bytes.count)
bytes[11] = UInt8(UInt32(bytes[11]) | 0x0FF)
NSData is an immutable object, and
let ptr = UnsafePointer<UInt8>(msgData.bytes)
is a constant pointer, so you must not modify the pointed-to data.
Alternatively, use a mutable data object from the beginning:
var msgData = NSMutableData(bytes: testBytes, length: testBytes.count)
let ptr = UnsafeMutablePointer<UInt8>(msgData.mutableBytes)
var bytes = UnsafeMutableBufferPointer<UInt8>(start: ptr, count: msgData.length)
bytes[11] = UInt8(UInt32(bytes[11]) | 0x0FF)
Note the usage of msgData.mutableBytes instead of msgData.bytes.
This will modify the data in msgData directly.

STM32 USB buffer not retrieved correctly

im pretty new on the STM32 and i encountered a problem.
With a Qt App i'm sending stuff over the USB with the following code:

My question then is why i can't retrieve correctly the values in the buffer?

QByteArray initialization

I can initialize a QByteArray like:
QByteArray m_data;
m_data[0] = 0x0c;
m_data[1] = 0x06;
m_data[2] = 0x04;
m_data[3] = 0x04;
m_data[4] = 0x02;
m_data[5] = 0x00;
But I would like something more compact, like:
QByteArray m_data{0x0c, 0x06, 0x04, 0x04, 0x02, 0x00};
Unfortunately, this form isn't allowed:
error: could not convert '{12, 6, 4, 4, 2, 0}' from '<brace-enclosed initializer list>' to 'QByteArray'
QByteArray m_data{0x0c, 0x06, 0x04, 0x04, 0x02, 0x00};

Are there any alternatives (closer to my dream)?
(Does C++11/14/17 helps on this issue?)
You could let a template figure out how many elements are in the list:
using myarr = char[];
template <size_t N>

I was looking for such answer, but including declared variables into the expression; for instance:

Using std::begin or even std::initializer_list C++11 features this can be achieved.

Using a vector as an array index?

Under OpenCL, is there a method for accessing an array using a vector as an index?
For example, I want to accomplish something like this:

Currently, the only way I can accomplish something like this is to do it manually, but it doesn't feel very "vector-y":

So I guess this is a two part question:
Is there a way to access an array using a vector as an index?
If not, is there a more efficient way than I've showcased above?
OpenCL C is based on C99 standard, which doesn't allow array index to be vector.
Last sample of your code is pretty much what you can get. Also, take into account that using vector elements as array index leads to poor memory access pattern, which can decrease IO performance dramatically.

Parallel simulation of AES in C using Openmp

Here is my problem. I want to parallelize AES-128 encryption in C using Openmp. I am hardly getting any speedup with the following code using openmp. My machine is Quadcore intel i5 machine.
Here is the code. Any suggestion how to parallelize this code further would be really really appreciated. Please take a look at the main function which is at the end of the code. AES code below consists of a few functions to achieve its functionality. Please suggest how to best extract parallelism from this.

I have modified the code as suggested by Hristo. Thanks for your effort. Here is how the code looks. I don't understand how to make encrypt( ) function use local variables. Can you explain. Please add code where it should be. Thanks again for your efforts.
Secondly, if there is no printf statements, how would you see if the output is correct or not. I mean are there other mechanisms to display or save the output. Lastly, the code as shown below is still slower than the serial execution (i.e., without openmp). There is no printf in the serial version either to make the comparison fair.

You need neither schedule(dynamic) nor task constructs. As far as I am aware of the intrinsics of AES, this is a completely regular problem - each encryption takes exactly the same number of cycles and therefore the same wall-clock time, no matter what the key. This completly rules out the necessity to use dynamic scheduling and tasks. Even in the case of umbalanced problems, simply adding schedule(dynamic) is a very bad idea. The reason for that is that the default chunk size for dynamic is 1, which means that each thread executes a single iteration and then asks the OpenMP runtime for another one. In your case the overhead is multiplied 650000 times. Dynamic scheduling, when actually applicable, is very powerful but one should carefully choose the optimal chunk size with the latter often involving lots of trials until the optimal value is found.
Besides that you generate 650000 tasks. Each task has a certain overhead associated with its creation and subsequent consumption by the worker threads. Given that AES takes about 18 cycles per byte on Pentium Pro (ref: Wikipedia), each call to encrypt() probably would have taken about the same amount of time as the OpenMP runtime needs in order to execute the task if it wasn't for the printf() statement inside. printf() outputs to the terminal or to a file stream (if redirected) and doing I/O with the same descriptor is esentially a serial operation, i.e. it serialises the threads. See this answer to get an idea of how much printf() impacts parallel performance.
But the worst problem of your code is actually the multitude of data races. encrypt() depends on and changes the values of several global variables. This not only leads to slow down due to true cache sharing, but most likely also results in completely wrong ciphertexts. These global variables should be all made local to encrypt() or made threadprivate if it is necessary that they stay global. Then the parallel loop uses several shared variables, namely key, pt and ct. These should be made private.
Summary: make encrypt() use only local variables; make key, pt and ct private; change the loop schedule to static; remove the task construct; remove all printf statements that output information at each iteration.
Bonus: rand() keeps its state in global variables too.
There are so many global variables. Just make them thread-private. Add the following OpenMP pragma just after the definition of the last global variable:

Notice - variables such as key, pt, j, etc. are defined in the scope where they are used. This frees you from the necessity to put them all in a private clause since such variables are predetermined to be private. Also each thread now has its own PRNG state.

I have an .asmx webservice that gets the cellid, MCC, MNC and LAC and I want to use opencellid to get the latitude and longitude from these information, I didn't find resources in the internet, so I don't kow where to start. if you can help me to find out how to do that, or give me an alternative solution to find latitude and longitude from these informations it would be nice.
