I am trying to create a map grid using Google maps. I have a fixed border frame and need to create an overlay on top, similar to this and this example. However, I also need to be able to hover over map tiles using the mouse cursor and change the hue/saturation of the overlay elements accordingly. Each element in the grid will have an onClick() event associated with it.
After some research I found libraries that can be used to draw a grid such as OSMatrix.I also noticed that one of the d3.js examples is somewhat similar to what I am aiming to achieve. The question is, how can I add the visualization as an overlay on top of a map and is it possible to accomplish with API v3 and JavaScript?

I'am using reactJS and want to design a component with following functionality :
Display pixelated image which is able to zoom in and zoom out at pixel level.
When clicked on image , display a marker- which can be a dot or icon at specific position.
When image is zoomIn/zoomOut, marker size and position should not change.
Even after zoomIn/zoomOut when clicked on image, marker should get repositioned at proper pixel on the image.
I am thinking of applying same logic as used in the maps/ leaflet. Like they maintain separate layers for map and markers on the map. If we zoomIn/out maps it won't affect the marker position or size, same functionality I want for the image.
Anyone with the solution or related library will be welcomed !
(For reference, I want this design for marking GCP(Ground Control Points) on the image, which requires very precise marking at pixel level)
I am trying to create a coordinate system for my localisation application. I need a grid of squares that can be individually manipulated by their position. This grid overlay will then be layered on top of a static image.
For example box (1,0) will manipulate the second row first column box.
Here is an example:

Any ideas on how to achieve this? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I have figured out how to create custom html tooltips by using roles via googleVis. I can easily modify the content using html but I cannot understand how I can control the tooltip box itself.
My problem was generated because some of the custom tooltips I created are falling outside my chart area and I tried (unsuccessfully) to find a way to control the tooltip position. Idealy I would like to make them behave in the exact same way default tooltips behave in googleVis (always stay withinin the chart area).
When I later implemented the same concept into a line chart I found that I have another problem as well. The tooltip is falling on the line so I cannot see what is the exact point that refers to the tooltip.
Would it be possible for example to keep the callout style of default googleVis tooltip and change the content with HTML?
Additionally, do you know if there is any way to control more tooltip properties like border and background color?

1) when laying out your data, make sure it has columns alternating between, say, data and tooltips, data and tooltips,... that way it is possible to customize tooltips for multiple columns (it does not work if you just append - à la cbind - a set of tooltips columns to your data frame).

What is the HTML CSS solution for highlighting specific areas of a map/floor plan like this?
http://www.centrecourtshopping.co.uk/store-info/
They use sprite image look here.
Basically, it works like that:
The map with dark-blue regions is completely static.
There is invisible layer on top of it made from small rectangular in their case <a> -- each corresponds to single dark-blue region and posses its its own id.
When cursor is placed over a rectangular with id x the sprite image is nicely aligned with its background (by setting CSS's background-position).
Do not think, this magic would be possible without using JavaScript.
I have a world map image. I would like to place a SQUARE GRID over the entire map. I would like each square (cell grid) to change via mouseover with a border color change and background color change.
The grid needs to be layered over the map, transparent except the borders (which is the grid).
Can I achieve this using CSS or there a better way to do this?
Many thanks.
Erik
I'd suggest using a CSS grid framework as an easy way to produce the grid layout. I'd go for this one as you can easily use create a grid with 0px gutters.
You will need to modify the CSS to make the grid absolute positioned so it sits over the top of your map.
Each element in the grid is a DIV so you can easily attach Javascript events to each one to allow users to control the map. If it's a simple colour change on hover then just use css.
You can make the grid transparent using css too: http://css-tricks.com/css-transparency-settings-for-all-broswers/
