After upgrading to ExtJS 5 from 4.2.1 I discovered a grid cell width calculation issue or what appears to be an issue.
Here is an example of the columns
columns: [
{ header: 'One', dataIndex: 'one', flex: 2 },
{ header: 'Two', dataIndex: 'two', flex: 2 },
{ header: 'Three', dataIndex: 'three', flex: 3 }
]
The headers fill the grid width as expected but grid cell widths are not equal to the headers in amounts of -5px / -5px / -12 px respectively.
The appearance is as if there is room for a scroll bar but the grid has only one row.
Grids that have enough data to have a scroll bar do not appear to have this issue.
Resizing the grid column puts things back in a proper alignment until new data is loaded and rendered again with the width calculations off. It re-sizes soon after a new data load.
I thought that maybe css was to blame but changing themes did not fix it nor did using ext-all.css rather than the debug css.
Is this a bug or have I missed a new config that will correct the width calculations?
If this is a bug ... any suggestions for a work around?
Help much appreciated.
UPDATE 1:
I used Sencha Cmd to generate a basic app and created a grid view with the columns and a features.
So far it looks like having a grouping feature seems to be the culprit.
However, I do see the behavior on grids without a grouping feature.
Those grids are in a border layout so I'll investigate that next.
It looks like bug, however I discovered that wrapping grid with container with auto layout make fixes that issue (at least in my case).

first inside panel with fit layout - rows are narrower
second inside panel with auto layout - rows are same as header
Using layout:'auto' leaves scrolling broken.
It appears that space is being reserved for the scrollbar, but setting reserveScrollbar:false doesn't help.

I have a Datagrid table in which column virtualization is enabled. There will always be > 25 columns on this table. With a trackpad; a user can quickly scroll horizontally, however, without a trackpad I am worried users won't be able to access the other columns as the scrollbar only appears after scrolling is triggered already.
Is there a way to make the horizontal scrollbar always visible? I have tried adding overflow-x: scroll on MuiDataGrid-virtualScroller and also on MuiDataGrid-virtualScrollerContent but that did not work. Anyone with a solution?

I'd like to know if there is a way to reserve space for a vertical scrollbar in a grid panel with ExtJS 4.1.1. I remember that I was able to do this with ExtJS 3, but maybe this feature was removed?
The grid has a fixed height so a scrollbar appears when the amount of rows exceeds the height of the grid. There is also a "delete" action that allows to remove each row one by one. The problem is that the action moves to the right when the scrollbar is not required anymore. This is the behaviour I'd like to avoid.

I have a datagrid that is updated periodically and the number of rows inside it grows steadily over time. It is inside of a parent div with a height of 60% of the screen.
If I set autoheight to, say, 5 rows, the table works properly. When a sixth row is added, a scrollbar appears within the datagrid and I can scroll up/down and the headers remain fixed at the top and visible. Unfortunately, once I have a lot of data, this is a waste of space -- I have 60% of the screen's height to work with, but only 5 rows are being shown at a time.
If I set autoheight to false, the scrollbar that appears is attached to the parent div. Scrolling up/down allows me to see the data, but the headers at the top of the grid scroll out of view.
Is there a way to ask the datagrid to show as many rows as it can fit and provide a scrollbar for the rest?

I think you're looking for grid.resize(); If you look at the file "Grid.js.uncompressed.js" in the dojox nightly files here: http://archive.dojotoolkit.org/nightly/dojotoolkit/dojox/grid/ You can see exactly what it does. The dataGrid should inherit this method, if you're using it. One way to use it is to resize the containing div based on the window's height, and then resize the grid inside:

Alright, so here is the situation...
Say I have a navbar for a site, and I allow users to change the number of links they want on this navbar. This means they could have 3, 5, 10, etc.
What I want to do is make it so that if one link is up, it only takes up, say, 1/5th of the space on the navbar. If I weren't using borders, I might do something like:
width: 18%;
padding: 0 1%;
However, I have two problems with this:
1) For 4 buttons, that's fine that it doesn't fill up the whole row. It would look ugly if the links were too wide... but when I have 6 or 7 buttons, it's got huge overflow!
2) Since I have borders, I can't use a percentage value for the borders or the widths, because I can't properly estimate how much of the percentage it will be.
Now, I know I don't have to use percentage values, but what I would ideally prefer is that the first button is the smallest possible size necessary for all the other buttons to fit properly, meaning that if I have 950px and 6 links, the first link can be about 150px while the others are 160px... that's fine. I want all the other buttons on the navbar to be equally sized, regardless of how many links there are.
I also need for it to accept a border... I figure the way to do this is to put a border in the nested div, so that way it doesn't effect the overall width of the button? This is all well and good, but I'm still plagued by the issue of not being able to design a dynamic site using the style I want if I can't get all the nav buttons to fit the width properly.
Are there some js tricks I could use? I don't even know...

I did something like this at a previous job, but it did require a blend of JS and CSS.
One way to do it with JS - you need to simply take the total width of the navbar (minus padding, borders, etc, of course) and divide the number of buttons shown - then dump that out as the css width:width/numbOfbuttons%; on each button.
Just be careful not to hit exactly 100% cause this may cause wrap.
However - ideally (and the way we did it) this is much easier if you have a known number of potential buttons, or combinations.
Then, the solution is to set up a series of css classes designed to each scenario:

And then just have the JS evaluate and set the specially designed class on the parent. Yeah..this requires a bit more CSS writing, and requires that you don't have an infinite number of potentials...

Maybe you should question your design of trying to fit a dynamic number of buttons onto single row. I think the best design for you is a drop down navigator (like a window menu). That way it doesn't matter how many nav options the users adds, the design is still useable.
If you simply must have a nav bar with no drop downs, the short answer is to use a <table> if you need to support older browsers. At least a table will not wrap, but at some point the design of your site will look awful if it's squashed too much.
I'm sure there could CSS3 answers but I dont know them.
I've noticed that the default behaviour for a DataGrid's vertical scroll bar is to scroll one row at a time. This is all well and good when the rows are all uniform and small (e.g. displaying a single line of text), but gets really ugly as soon as you have rows with variable heights.
I'm curious, is there a way to make DataGrid scrolling "smooth"? For instance, is there a way to have the DataGrid scroll by a set number of pixels, lines of text, etc. rather than scrolling one row at a time?
So far, the only solution I've managed to come up with is to place the DataGrid in a Canvas and have the Canvas do the scrolling instead of the DataGrid. The issue with this approach, though, is that as soon as the Canvas scrolls far enough, the DataGrid headers scroll off-screen. Ideally, I'd like to get the smooth-scrolling nature of the Canvas, but also keep the DataGrid headers visible. Is that possible?
The way that ItemRenderer's work in Flex 3 makes smooth scrolling difficult to achieve. Basically Flex recycles item renderers scrolled off of the top of the list as the display objects used for new data at the bottom of the list. Adobe's implementation of most list components in Flex 3 creates and adds these items as they come on to the screen rather than just off the screen, so they "pop in" and smooth scrolling isn't available. I'm not sure why they couldn't have done it in a similar manner for items +/- one position above or below the current scroll pane, but they didn't, and we're stuck with sticky scrolling by default.
Work-arounds do exist, though the one you've noted (dropping the datagrid into a canvas) negates the display-object saving intention of item renderers and incurs a performance cost. This will be fixed for most list-based Flex components in Flex 4, though it won't be fixed immediately for DataGrid. The DataGrid / AdvancedDataGrid component is maintained by a separate team based in India, last time I heard, and so it tends to be a bit behind the rest of the SDK.
I'd recommend trying something similar to this implementation of a smooth-scrolling list by Alex Harui. I'm not sure exactly how well it'd work for DataGrid or AdvancedDataGrid, but this is the most intuitive technique I can think of for making the list scroll correctly.

Alex's original some code for smooth vertical scrolling but that was not an issue I had with the DataGrid. It was smooth scrolling horizontally that I needed. I am using the DataGrid in an unorthodox manner for analyzing plain text reports output by our database (great way of providing visual feedback on a document). The code below allows content to go off screen and the user can scroll without that snap-to-column behavior.
You can adapt this to use the same math routines for vertical scrolling and then it will make scrolling possible and ignore the snap to row behavior. In particular switch the usage of the listContent.move method to move the contents vertically and use a inverse of the rounded pixel value you calculate from the vertical scroll bar (as opposed to my using the horizontal).
This method is bit simpler than Alex's method from the link above - a lot less code so try adapting and see how it works.
