Difference between {% include '' %} and {{ include('') }} in Twig - symfony

It's possible to include a file in two different ways:
{% include 'fic.html.twig' %}
{{ include('fic.html.twig') }}
What is the difference between the two methods?
Source:
http://twig.sensiolabs.org/doc/tags/include.html
http://twig.sensiolabs.org/doc/functions/include.html

Tags are less flexible than functions, for example:
If you want to store contents of a file in a variable if you want to repeat it twice:
{% set content = include('test.twig') %}
Instead of:
{% set content %}
{% include 'test.twig' %}
{% endset %}
If you want to add filters:
{{ include('alert.twig') | upper }}
Its tag equivalent:
{% set temp %}
{% include 'alert.twig' %}
{% endset %}
{{ temp | upper }}
You see, {{ include }} instead of {% include %} will not change the world, but remove some complexity when you need to do tricky stuffs using Twig.
Also, according to the documentation, it is recommended to use {{ include() }} to fit with best practices:
{{ }} is used to print the result of an expression evaluation;
{% %} is used to execute statements.

From Twig's changelog:
* 1.12.0-RC1 (2012-12-29)
* added an include function (does the same as the include tag but in a more flexible way)

I think it's the same functionality, but while {% include '' %} is a tag, the {{ include('') }} is a function. Maybe if you want to overwrite the function it can be easier than a tag.

From Symfony 2.8 (LTS) documentation
2.3 The include() function is available since Symfony 2.3. Prior, the {% include %} tag was used.

Using db arrays in set and include in symfony3

I'm a beginner in symfony. I love use database-arrays to fill out the pages in symfony as
<p>{{ cars.texte | nl2br }}</p>
Is it possible to use the same proceed in "set" and in "include", as
{% set tag = 'url' %}
letting the db complete the url
and
{% include "twigtemplate" %}
letting the db complete the template? This, as I have understood, doesn't work:
{% set tag = {{ cars.color }} %}
Thanks for any help!
Yes it is possible simply remove the {{ and the }}. When you are inside of the {% %} signs you don't need the {{ and }}.
{% set tag = cars.color %}

Twig template with variable

My twig template has for loop, and I am trying to add a varable to it. How do I do this?
The ('var') needs to be the variable > content. + var + .related.buttons
{% include '#PleinCatalog/Theme/includes/themeCatergory.html.twig' with {'var':'something'} %}
{% for button in content.('var').related.buttons %}
{{ button.title }}
{% endfor %}
I have a similar for loop in my projects, where I include templates with some options.
Based on your example - it can be uses like that:
{% for button in content[var].related.buttons %}
…
{% endfor %}

Toggle html validation globally

I've made a couple of twig extensions but I'm stumped on this one.
I have the following template logic that I want to make into an extension.
I need reuse this logic into many different forms instead of copying and pasting the following code everywhere:
{% if html5validation is not defined %}
{{ form_start(some_form) }}
{% else %}
{% if html5validation %}
{{ form_start(some_form) }}
{% else %}
{{ form_start
(
company, {'attr': {'novalidate': 'novalidate'}}
)
}}
{% endif %}
{% endif %}
With the above code from the controller I can do the following to turn the html5 validator on and off:
$this->render(..., array(html5validation => false));
I want put the template logic into the twig extension below...
I just don't know if it's possible to implement what I've done above in a twig extension.
class HTML5Validation extends \Twig_Extension
{
public function getFunctions()
{
return array(
new \Twig_SimpleFunction('html5validation', array($this, 'setValidation')),
);
}
public function setValidation($boolean)
{
//Implement the same logic as the twig template.
}
public function getName()
{
return 'html5validator';
}
}
The short answer is no - you can't do this using a twig extension, it's not what they're meant for.
Looking at your template fragment I'd say you need to customise the form_start block. To do this see Symfony Form Theming and How to customise form rendering.
EDIT: This solution does not work if your customised code requires local twig variables - only global twig variables are available for form theming. You can define your own twig globals in config.yml or in a twig extension.
For example, to override form_start globally, you find the default definition of the form_start block in form_div_layout.html.twig, copy it into your own form theme file e.g. YourBundle/Form/fields.html.twig, modify it as required and and update the twig configuration to apply your form theme file. Something like this:
{# src/YourBundle/Form/fields.html.twig #}
{% extends 'form_div_layout.html.twig' %}
{% block form_start -%}
{% if html5validation is not defined %}
{{ parent() }}
{% else %}
{% if html5validation %}
{{ parent() }}
{% else %}
{{ parent
(
company, {'attr': {'novalidate': 'novalidate'}}
)
}}
{% endif %}
{% endif %}
{%- endblock form_start %}
Config:
# app/config/config.yml
twig:
form:
resources:
- 'YourBundle:Form:fields.html.twig'
I actually found a better way to do what I wanted.
As a plus it works globally instead of having to populate more fields into your controller!
In YourBundle/Resources/views/validation.toggle.html.twig
{% extends 'form_div_layout.html.twig' %}
{% block form_start -%}
{% if html5validation is defined and html5validation == false %}
{% set attr = attr|merge({'novalidate': 'novalidate'}) %}
{% endif %}
{{ parent() }}
{%- endblock form_start %}
Then if you want to turn off html5 validation across the whole website:
# app/config/config.yml
twig:
global:
html5validation: false
Or
Even better just use it in your dev_config.yml if you want validation on by default on production mode but the ability to toggle validation on and off for dev mode.
# app/config/dev_config.yml
twig:
global:
html5validation: false
resources:
- 'YourBundle::validation.toggle.html.twig'
Finally use it in your twig template normally:
{% form_theme your_form 'YourBundle::validation.toggle.html.twig' %}
form_start(your_form)
Reusable and non invasive, exactly like I wanted it. :)
I got the hint from:
https://github.com/symfony/symfony/issues/11409#issuecomment-49358377
In the absence of a more elegant solution, you can always put the twig fragment given in your question into a separate file and use twig include from your various forms. The included fragment has access to the variables from the surrounding context:
{# YourBundle/Resources/views/form_start.html.twig #}
{% if html5validation is not defined %}
{{ form_start(some_form) }}
{% else %}
{% if html5validation %}
{{ form_start(some_form) }}
{% else %}
{{ form_start
(
company, {'attr': {'novalidate': 'novalidate'}}
)
}}
{% endif %}
{% endif %}
Then in the twig file for the form:
{% include 'YourBundle::form_start.html.twig' %}
If you typically pass a 'form' variable into render() in your controller(s) then you can use that in your form_start fragment. Otherwise you can pass the appropriate form in as a variable:
{% include 'YourBundle::form_start.html.twig' with {'form': localForm} %}

Symfony Twig customize an Individual field for a collection

In the documentation there is a way in Symfony to customize a Individual field, based on the name/id of the widget.
{% form_theme form _self %}
{% block _product_name_widget %}
<div class="text_widget">
{{ block('field_widget') }}
</div>
{% endblock %}
{{ form_widget(form.name) }}
Here, the _product_name_widget fragment defines the template to use for the field whose id is product_name (and name is product[name]).
This works for a normal widget, but not if a widget is inside a collection. Because of the extra columns. Like this:
name="productbundle_product_type[foobar][1][value]" id="productbundle_product_type_foobar_1_value"
What is the way to make the Twig customization work inside the collection?
I thought something like this, but that doesn't work:
{% for db in edit_form.list %}
{% block _productbundle_product_type_foobar_{{ db.name }}_widget %}
<div class="text_widget">
{{ block('field_widget') }}
</div>
{% endblock %}
{% endfor %}
Even the following doesn't work:
{% _productbundle_product_type_foobar_1_value_widget %}
What is the way to make it work?
I was working on a project a couple of evenings ago and encountered precisely this problem - the solution I found is a pair of blocks that look like this (stripped of project-specific code):
{# Collection markup #}
{% block my_collection_widget %}
{# Customise collection row prototype for allow_add #}
{% if prototype is defined %}
{% set data_prototype = block('my_collection_item_widget') %}
<div id="my_prototype" data-prototype="{{ data_prototype }}" style="display: none"></div>
{% endif %}
{% for prototype in form %}
{{ block('my_collection_item_widget') }}
{% endfor %}
{% endblock my_collection_widget %}
{# Collection row markup #}
{% block my_collection_item_widget %}
{# Collection contains simple, single type #}
{{ form_errors(prototype) }}
{{ form_label(prototype) }}
{{ form_widget(prototype) }}
{# OR #}
{# Collection contains a compound type, render child types independantly #}
{{ form_errors(prototype.inner_widget) }}
{{ form_label(prototype.inner_widget) }}
{{ form_widget(prototype.inner_widget) }}
{% endblock my_collection_item_widget %}
I know this is old question, but maybe people still happening upon this. This is explained fragment naming for collections.
You use _entry_ in these cases in place of the collection element number. Use the instructions in the link for fragment naming, but this might vary. Sometimes 'type' is part of the fragment's name, sometimes first letter is upper case, sometimes lower case, etc. I would use a browser developer tool to find the actual name to make sure. You might also be able to customize the names used by adding the getBlockPrefix function to the form class.
Therefore, in your case above, the customized block might look something like:
{% block _ProductBundle_product_entry_widget %}
<div> {{ form_row(form.field)}} </div>
{% endblock %}
Where 'field' would be the name of a field in the element of your collection.
A few things here:
1. Documentation Error
The docs seem to be a bit off with CamelCase entities. As for 5.3 it should be: _taskManager_taskLists_entry_widget (instead of _task_manager_task_lists_entry_widget)
You can confirm the naming by dumping the form or form field: {{ dump(form) }} or {{ dump(form.yourField) }} in your template and then look for unique_block_prefix within the vars section.
2. Do NOT use the block overrides, macros are much more easy
It makes things absolutely more complicated than necessary. Simply define a macro:
{% import _self as formMacros %}
{% macro formatCollection(form) %}
<div class="form-group row">
<div>
{{ form_widget(form.field1) }}
{{ form_widget(form.field2) }}
{{ form_widget(form.field3) }}
</div>
</div>
{% endmacro %}
then simply run it on each collection:
{% for item in form.collectionItems %}
{{ formMacros.formatCollection(item) }}
{% endfor %}
3. Prototype
Get the prototype before rendering the collection field. You can store it in a variable.
{% set prototype = form.collection.vars.prototype %}
Then simply render it whenever you like using our macro:
<div data-js="collection" data-prototype="{{ formMacros.formatCollection(prototype)|e('html_attr') }}">

Overwriting a field of AdmingeneratorGeneratorBundle

I am trying to overwrite a field of the AdmingeneratorGeneratorBundle and want to append a link to a certain field. That works quite well following the documentation:
{% extends_admingenerated "MyMainBundle:PageEdit:index.html.twig" %}
{% block form_status %}
{{ parent() }}
Preview
{% endblock %}
What I would need to do now, is to get the real id of my page instead of the static 8, but i could not figure out, what the object is called inside the twig template. Any ideas?
Update:
In my case, as I only need the ID of my page, I can use app.request.attributes.get('pk') to get it in twig. Would be interesting how to get other values tough.
Just use
{% extends_admingenerated "MyMainBundle:PageEdit:index.html.twig" %}
{% block form_status %}
{{ parent() }}
Preview
{% endblock %}
Cedric
The Documentation has been updated.
Thats ho it works:
{% extends_admingenerated "NamespaceYourBundle:List:index.html.twig" %}
{% block list_td_column_title %}
<span style="font-weight:bold">{{ Movie.title }}</span>
{% endblock %}
