How Dynamics CRM 2013 Localization process work? - crm

I want to know how Dynamics CRM 2013 localize Strings; after investigation, i found that it localize entity labels such as DisplayName in LocalizedLables table but what about labels in menus , buttons and controls; there is a table called DisplayStringBase but it doesn't contain any localizations; Is Dynamics CRM use resource files or not? I want to know the detailed process of localization in Dynamics CRM 2013.

Dynamics CRM has a supported way to localize the strings, you need to export them as an excel file and import back. Here a tutorial:
http://www.zero2ten.com/blog/crm-2011-online-localization-custom-translations/
The tutorial is for CRM 2011 but the process is the same for CRM 2013.
You can also export the translation of an entire solution, not only a single entity.

Dynamics 365 for Operations trial instance: Write custom code

How can I write plugins, workflows or JS for trial instance of Dynamics 365 for Operations using Visual Studio, like we do for MS Dynamics CRM online instance?
Unfortunately in Dynamics 365 Operations we cannot write plugins but we can create an out of box custom functionality known as "Developer Tools Addin" for performing any kind of functionality in a short and smooth way. The way to write the code is completely available in C#.
Microsoft has tried to bring X++ very close to the semantics of C# as now it as well has been counted in the list of .Net Compliant Languages.
No, We cannot write plugins, workflows, JS in Operations like CRM.
Dynamics 365 for Operations (AX) is totally different ball game when compared to Dynamics CRM (wrt architecture & stack).
Dynamics 365 for Operations is using x++ (.xpp) for custom developments & comparison with C# here
We have used Sharepoint as web client for AX, bcoz that time only thick client was available for AX. In that front, Dynamics 365 for Operations come up with strong Azure stack in cloud space.

Custom Ribbon button in CRM new release Orion?

Does any body have idea about whether Custom Ribbon button is supported or not in CRM new release Orion.
Orion official name is Dynamics CRM 2013. Currently the product (for who has access) is under NDA.
But from the public information available the "new" ribbon is customizable, in fact Scott Durow released a new version of his tool Ribbon Workbench for CRM 2013.

Pass value between visual webparts in sharepoint 2010

Am new to SharePoint but have better experience in asp.net web application development. I am using Visual Studio to development SharePoint application.
I have created two visual webparts - 1. StudentPersonalDetails: to add personal details of students and 2. StudentCourseDetails: to add course details of the student. When save is clicked in StudentPersonalDetails it adds the data to a list - ListPersonalDetails. When save is clicked in StudentCourseDetails, it should add data to the list - ListCourseDetails. ListCouseDetails contains StudentID which is to be passed from StudentPersonalDetails to StudentCourseDetails.
How can i do this? Am using Visual Studio 2010 for application development. Is a practice in SharePoint 2010 to use session variables, viewstate variables or querystring?
It looks like you are wanting to do web part communication. This functionality is available in SharePoint and you can see an example of doing this here.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff597538.aspx
Also you can see this option on web parts by clicking on the edit menu and there is an option for connect to on the web part options.
Here are some links; may be helpful to you. It is better to move this question to sharepoint.stackexchange.com

MorphX report designer: are there any alternatives?

MorphX report designer in Ax 2009 seems to be not the 'best' as report designer.. I don't know if is my fault, or if morphx report designer too buggy to do his job.
I'm guessing if there are some alternative to do report for Ax 2009: maybe Crystal Report and Visual Studio ? Or ... ?
Thanks
SSRS is the main alternative for AX 2009. You can deploy the reporting extensions and analysis cubes for some good reporting data. Analysis cubes will need to be configured to match your individual license file.
If you just want to be able to create SSRS reports, I believe you can just go to (Admin>Setup>Business analysis>Reporting Services>Reporting Servers" and point to your SSRS instance, and create the "Dynamics AX" data source.
You might need to do Kerberos setup too depending on your environment topology.
The best alternative options is by far Reporting Services. It is supported by Dynamics AX 2009 in a way there there is tools and platforms to develop reports than honor the security from within AX and also the important feature of being able to persist the report design back to the Application Object Tree (under Report Libraries).
How to setup and configure SSRS for Dynamics AX 2009 is a topic on it's own, but there should be plenty of good resources out there to help you.
Good luck!
In addition to previous answers you can use any report designer you like if you are going working with database directly.
But be ready some of axapta features will not be working automatically, for example - labels for enum values.
Great place to start with SSRS using Visual Studio 2008 are screencasts available on youtube, just go onto youtube and search for "AX2009 SSRS".
SSRS is fine for periodic reporting, however "online" reporting - such as invoices, pick lists, etc (anything printed when posting) is better off handled by external software. You may wish to print to file or to a DB and use 3rd party software to pick up the design/formatting.
Bottomline's Create Forms is one example I have seen used. You also have workflow options which is great when you have different companies/customers/suppliers with difference requirements, even better if you have multiple brands within the same company.

A way to display an excel 2010 document in an asp.net web application

I am wanting to display an Excel 2010 document in an asp.net web application. This document uses the new slicer functionality which I want to be available to the user.
I know that Excel 2010 docs can be used within SharePoint by inserting a web part which uses Excel services.
But can it be achieved without SharePoint ? Or can it be achieved using the the Excel services API to get the document from SharePoint and then somehow get it to the browser in .net?
Thanks,
Tom.
I am not familiar with the Slicer functionality but.... Excel cells are available via a REST interface within SharePoint 2010 (not 2007). That may help you get to the data you want to expose.
More information on the Excel and Rest with SharePoint 2010 here.
From a non SharePoint perspective, the Skydrive based Web Office apps have Excel functionality. It is possible you may be able to impersonate a user, send a HTTP request to try and bring back the Excel data for display. You could possibly use an IFrame for display also. Having said that, I have never tried it and not sure how well it would work.
