Would it be possible to achieve the attached grid in bootstrap? Each of the squares would probably be an image... or perhaps text!
I've had a go, but hit a wall when it comes to the top-left box for example that spans over two rows.
Grid:
Use nested blocks whenever you need your grid to span several rows.
Something like this:
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-6"></div>
<div class="col-sm-6">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-6"></div>
<div class="col-sm-6"></div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-6"></div>
<div class="col-sm-6"></div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-8">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-8"></div>
<div class="col-sm-4"></div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-4"></div>
<div class="col-sm-8"></div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-4"></div>
</div>
Then you can set the height for your blocks and your grid is good to go.
A newbie here.
So I was learning to make nested grids when I stumble on this question.
My Rules for making nested grids:
1.The entire grid will be in parent container .row (parent wrapper)
2.Columns are always nested in columns, however all nested columns must have a .row(column wrapper) wrapper to align items horizontally e.g.:
<div class='col-md-12'>
<div class='row'>This is the column wrapper.
<div class='col-md-9'></div>
<div class='col-md-3'></div>
</div>
</div>
3.Breakpoints are very key
4.You may have to use custom css to fine tune your grid.
This is my solution to the problem:
<div class='row parent-wrap'>
<div class='col-sm-6 big-left'>Top Left big</div>
<div class='col-sm-6 quarter-grid'>
<div class='row top-wrap'>
<div class='col-sm-6 top-left'>top-left</div>
<div class='col-sm-6 top-right'>top-right</div>
<div class='col-sm-6 bottom-left'>bottom-left</div>
<div class='col-sm-6 bottom-right'>bottom-right</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class='col-sm-12'>
<div class='row mid-wrap'>
<div class='col-sm-3 mid-start'>mid-start</div>
<div class='col-sm-6 mid-center'>mid-center</div>
<div class='col-sm-3 mid-end'>mid-end</div>
</div>
<div class='col-sm-9'>
<div class='row bottom-wrap'>
<div class='col-sm-8 bottom-start'>bottom-start</div>
<div class='col-sm-4 bottom-center'>bottom-center</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Rudimentary custom css:
.parent-wrap{
margin:100px;
}
.big-left{
background-color: aqua;
height:300px;
}
.top-left{
background-color:black;
height:150px;
}
.top-right{
background-color: blue;
height:150px;
}
.bottom-left{
background-color:brown;
height:150px;
}
.bottom-right{
background-color:crimson;
height:150;
}
.mid-start{
background-color:grey;
height:200px;
}
.mid-center{
background-color: red;
height:200px;
}
.mid-end{
background-color: pink;
height:400px;
}
.bottom-start{
background-color:blueviolet;
margin-left:-15px;
height:200px;
margin-top:-200px;
}
.bottom-center{
background-color:burlywood;
height:200px;
margin-top:-200px;
}

I have this structure in bootstrap columns:
And I want you to change to a lower resolution, be ordered as follows:
I found how to do it with flexbox here:
Flexbox: reorder and stack columns
But I can not change the entire structure of my project to flexbox, so I want to know if with bootstrap 4, it is possible to do so.
Thank you very much.
My poor test.
#import url( 'https://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/4.0.0-alpha.6/css/bootstrap.min.css' );
div {
text-align: center;
height: 60px;
}
#left {
background: yellow;
}
#middle {
background: blue;
}
#right {
background: coral;
}
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-3 col-md-3">
<div id="left">COLUMN 1</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-6 col-md-6">
<div id="middle">COLUMN 2</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-3 col-md-3">
<div id="right">COLUMN 3</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
You can use the Bootstrap 4 (alpha 6) utility classes to avoid the extra CSS. 1-2-3 becomes 3-2-1 on mobile.
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-8 col-md-6 push-md-3">
<div id="middle">COLUMN 2</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-4 col-md-6">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-6 pull-md-12 flex-last flex-md-unordered">
<div id="left">COLUMN 1</div>
</div>
<div class="col-md-6">
<div id="right">COLUMN 3</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

I assume by "resolution" you mean smaller screen size?
Here's a possible solution that uses some bootstrap push/pull grid utilities to reorder the columns in a medium size viewport, and then rearrange the layout in small size viewport the way you've shown in your diagram. In the small screen view, within a media query I use the css property order to reorder the 1 and 3 columns vertically Hope it gets you on the right track
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-8 col-md-6 push-md-3">
<div id="middle">COLUMN 2</div>
</div>
<div class="col-sm-4 col-md-6">
<div class='row'>
<div id='leftcont' class="col-md-6 pull-md-12">
<div id="left">COLUMN 1</div>
</div>
<div id='rightcont' class="col-md-6">
<div id="right">COLUMN 3</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
CSS:
div {
text-align:center;
height:60px;
}
#left{background:yellow;}
#middle {background:blue;}
#right {background:coral;}
#media (max-width: 768px) {
#leftcont { order: 2; }
#rightcont {
order: 1;
margin-bottom: 1em; }
}
New fiddle
The height of the divs might have to be adjusted for grid breakpoints but since the colored divs were only for a test, i didn't match those to your example
have you tried to pull column 2 for lower resolution?
I am obviously missing something really fundamental but I have the following html
<div class="test-cont">
<div class="md-margin"></div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">TEST2</div>
</div>
<div class="md-margin"></div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">HELLO WORLD</div>
</div>
<div class="md-margin"></div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">TEST2</div>
</div>
<div class="md-margin"></div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">HELLO WORLD</div>
</div>
</div>
and am using the following selectors
.test-cont .row:nth-of-type(odd) {
background: purple;
}
.test-cont .row:nth-of-type(even) {
background: red;
}
Which I believe expresses 'select the nth child items of .text-cont where class contains .row and is either odd or even'.
Yet the <div class="md-margin"></div> break these selectors.
So I end up with
Instead of the alternating pattern I expect. The problem is resolved when I remove the md-margin divs. What am I missing?
it is because you have those md-margin divs in between, making them the even ones.
(althought :nth-of-type will show the result you want when using classes - depending on the markup -, but it refers to the element type, that's why div with md-margin are "counting" here.
snippet with md-margin
.test-cont .row:nth-of-type(4n+2) {
background: purple;
}
.test-cont .row:nth-of-type(4n+4) {
background: red;
}
<div class="test-cont">
<div class="md-margin"></div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">TEST2</div>
</div>
<div class="md-margin"></div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">HELLO WORLD</div>
</div>
<div class="md-margin"></div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">TEST2</div>
</div>
<div class="md-margin"></div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">HELLO WORLD</div>
</div>
</div>
Snippet without md-margin
.test-cont .row:nth-of-type(odd) {
background: purple;
}
.test-cont .row:nth-of-type(even) {
background: red;
}
<div class="test-cont">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">TEST2</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">HELLO WORLD</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">TEST2</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">HELLO WORLD</div>
</div>
</div>
how to put content in column horizontally like below,
(column1) (column2) (column3)
1.asd 2.asd 3.asd
4.asd 5.asd
this flow is required in the website
For columns in css3, you have to have a div structure for that...
Html:-
<div class="table">
<div class="column">
<div class="row">1</div>
<div class="row">4</div>
<div class="row">7</div>
</div>
<div class="column">
<div class="row">2</div>
<div class="row">5</div>
<div class="row">8</div>
</div>
<div class="column">
<div class="row">3</div>
<div class="row">6</div>
<div class="row">9</div>
</div>
</div>
Css:-
.table { columns:3; -webkit-columns:3; -moz-columns:3; text-align:center }
.column { }
.row { background-color:red; }

I would like to be able to align different sized images to the bottom of a div.
I have the following markup:
<div class="container">
<div class="container">
<div class="footer-images">
<img src="img1">
<img src="img2">
<img src="img3">
</div>
</div>
<div class="container">
<div class="copyright">
<p>© Some Company YYYY</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
I can't figure out how to have all the images aligned to the bottom of the footer-images div. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
try this
.footer-images img{
vertical-align:bottom;
border:0;
}
In Bootstrap v4 you can use the class align-items-end to achieve bottom alignment in a div. You can use this class on the row or on the column.
Example with all column content aligned to the bottom.
<div class="container">
<div class="row align-items-end">
<div class="col">
One of three columns
</div>
<div class="col">
One of three columns
</div>
<div class="col">
One of three columns
</div>
</div>
</div>
Example with first column top, second colum middle and third colunm bottom alignment.
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col align-self-start">
One of three columns
</div>
<div class="col align-self-center">
One of three columns
</div>
<div class="col align-self-end">
One of three columns
</div>
</div>
</div>

Does this help?
<style type="text/css">
.footer-images {
margin: auto;
display: block;
position: absolute;
bottom: 0;
}
.footer-images .copyright {
text-align: center;
}
</style>
Using this HTML
<div class="container">
<div class="container">
<div class="footer-images">
<img src="http://placehold.it/350x150">
<img src="http://placehold.it/640x480">
<img src="http://placehold.it/120x120">
<div class="container">
<div class="copyright">
<p>© Some Company YYYY</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
used to this css and apply
.footer-images img{
width:xxpx;
height:xxpx; // add here your style as like with height border etc.
vertical-align:top;
border:0;
}
More about bootstrap
It would be enough:
margin-top: auto;
See https://jsfiddle.net/d3jau1gx/
I'm trying to replace some layouts table layouts with css layouts and have this code:
<html>
<head>
<style type="text/css">
#grid{
border:solid;
border-width:1px;
border-color:#000000;
width:300px;
max-width:300px;
min-width:300px;
overflow:hidden;
font-size:14px;
}
#grid .item{
text-align:center;
width:33%;
margin-top:2px;
margin-bottom:2px;
float:left;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div id="wagerStream">
<div id="grid">
<div class="item">item1</div>
<div class="item">item2</div>
<div class="item">item3</div>
<div class="item">item4</div>
<div class="item">item5</div>
<div class="item">item6</div>
<div class="item">item7</div>
<div class="item">item8</div>
<div class="item">item9</div>
</div>
<div id="grid">
<div class="item">item1</div>
<div class="item">item2</div>
<div class="item">item3</div>
<div class="item">item4 with wrapping text</div>
<div class="item">item5</div>
<div class="item">item6</div>
<div class="item">item7</div>
<div class="item">item8</div>
<div class="item">item9</div>
</div>
</div>
</body>
</html>
As you can see I have a problem with the way the last three items display when wrapping text occurs and would to know what would be a good css solution.
set additional two styles on item class:
white-space: nowrap;
overflow: hidden;
That should do the trick.
You will need to specify a height to the .item. Because floating elements always set their height to the minimum they need.
So, add the following line to your .item
height:<amount>px;
The only solution I could think of without using JavaScript and without specifying a set height to your items, is to wrap every 3 items in a row.
<div id="grid">
<div class="item-row">
<div class="item">item1</div>
<div class="item">item2</div>
<div class="item">item3</div>
</div>
<div class="item-row">
<div class="item">item4 with wrapping text</div>
<div class="item">item5</div>
<div class="item">item6</div>
</div>
<div class="item-row">
<div class="item">item7</div>
<div class="item">item8</div>
<div class="item">item9</div>
</div>
</div>
You'd want to have overflow:hidden applied to item-row to contain the floated items.
